cut the foam in half make two cutouts of the board with the halfs get very thin ply wood (I'd use balsa because its better) cut it exactly like the foam then sandwich the board between the two pieces of foam seal with epoxy or fiberglass do the planing sanding rails and paint then fiberglass a couple of times that's how I learned to make boards
What kind of glue did you use to glue the two foam blanks together? Also, I don't understand how you made the rocker. You bent the foam and then glued it? How did you glue it? Lastly, can styrofoam be shaped with sandpaper?
I plan on making my own blanks when I start shaping surfboards. I do want to install streamers on my blanks, so what kind of wood should I use, and what kind of adhesive should I use to attach the streamer to the foam?
hello my name is Dario and I'm a surfer longboard .... .... and desperately looking for the balsa wood, but in Italy it is impossible to find .... I would like to make a surfboard 9.4 you'd be really grateful if you could inform me or addresses where I can buy with any ships in Italy I hope I will help you and cordial good wishes for good surf,,,, bye

@jerdaskater12 The fall is better than the winter, late summer and early spring also get good. People just think you can only surf during the winter because its the "craziest" time to go(not really tho thanks to ripcurl) and receives the most coverage from media and such
shaping was quite easy, but it took a while cuz I did it all by hand using hand planers and sanding blocks...no power planer! Don't worry - you'll have a blast doing your first one - i did!
download a DVD called Shaping 101 and Glassing 101.
Pirate bay is your best bet. Its pretty much the industry standard and is relatively easy to learn. All you need is practice and patience. Im with you though, shaping isnt everything... Have you seen North Shore? He did artwork...
Hopefully you haven't glassed it yet, you can put fiberglass on an EPS core. The styrene in the resin eats the foam of the blank. Not to mention it would feel like a noodle without a stinger.
Epoxy resin is stronger, and wont eat the EPS core.
I dont understand how to put the rocker in plus I search home depot and lowes for some "EPS foam" and they said that they didnt carry any what should I do are there any other kinds or something similar I could use?
You're lucky..my foam pre-shaped was 80 euros. and 50 euros for the fiberglass and 50 euros for the epoxy reisin... then... the fins.. the plug... well, my home-made-surfboard, got 210 euros of price :)
I wish potsie1138 shows us vids of the finish product, what eps foam did you buy from home depot, pink? why not blue? and whats the difference? what brand of epoxy did you use?
i did (finally) well - I made a vid of that expanded on the whole process, but since I am in Australia, and my board is back in Canada - i had to use stills.
hey man just to worn you, that pink eps foam expels gas and after you get your glass all done u get these bubble all over your board.i have learned from experiance but hell the board still rides .peace long live lake surfing

nice vid, what is the name of glue you used? i need a good glue for eps foam. thanks.

I used SOLVENT-FREE contact cement, and 2 tubes of Dollar-Store-Brand 5 Minute epoxy.
I had more success with the latter; it worked beautifully.

the eps i for epoxy boards the reason it made mubbles on yours is that is was eating away the foam cause that is mady for epoxy resin only
