  • Whats moonshine?

  • Cool your shine with Home Depot buckets, get two for your mash and one for your coil. Get a big hose for your inlet at the bottom and a smaller hose at the top to drain. Match fittings for your hoses and your bigger hose for your sink faucet. Unscrew the faucet aireator for your big hose. Drill your holes in the bucket the next size down of your fittings to ensure tight fit. Install your fittings. Seal with plumbers putty. Slide big hose on faucet. Use hose clamp if needed. Ice is no good.

  • Is your website up?

  • All the mishaps are just propaganda . You're supposed to trust the industrial making but not the "home made " ? Humans have been turning fruits into alcohol for millennia

  • Nice set up, Glad to see the Home Depot sponsoring the worm and flake stand!

  • with what do i clean the in side of a copper still?and keep it clean. mine turn green inside after i clean it

  • BEEF

  • why does the coil run thru a bucket of water? and is it a must ? i'm thinking of making a small still that i can set up in my garage. seems like a fun hobby. is there any books or videos out there that can help me with the build and mash?

  • @THEARMEDLIFE to condence the steam

  • @THEARMEDLIFE to cool the steam back into liquid

  • @THEARMEDLIFE try google cant give u links unfortunatally bloody youtube but their is heaps out their just be wary of the bs out their build a good one and have fun

  • u pretty smart. i got three copper stills hidden in our woods. but everythings copper. could you send me a messege on how to create one of those. o and it tastes better if you dont boil it

  • @:22---BEEF--hahhahha

  • "Moonshine!" by Matthew B. Rowley?

That setup looks alot like the one they describe how to make in the book. XD

I'm a big fan of his 'Babystep Bourbon'.

  • wow. u got enough paste on that thing? lol

  • this moonshine still is brought to you by Home Depot. haha

  • how can i make it so i can run my car with it

  • o and ps what did you use to soder the 2 pieces on the pot together with??

  • how do poeple make the pots?? and if they do it how "highproof" does it where do they get the copper sheets

  • damn she is flowin good what temp are u boilin your mash it looked a little to hot. damn nice still though

  • @fhsdemon2008 It looked like 198*... bout right. I prefer to keep at 185-190 as long as possible.

  • ditch the thermometer and make yourself a parrot. i havent used a thermometer on my pot still for about 6 years,

  • Now thats being a redneck.. right on !

    ~PC~

  • how do you make a still and or all the items one might need to make a still at home? thanks!

  • @91Chevy305 - message me, I can tell you in detail

  • what do you use for mash BTW?

  • got my apparatus made, used an aluminum boiler for the cooler coil to sit in and it worked better at maintaining the chill, also upgraded to a stainless pressure cooker (just had to block up the steam vent). But using your method worked for me, results - 160 proof clean vodka. thanks

  • so ive heard all kinds of didferent numbers so if i just up and toss out the first cup (8 oz) that comes out the rest will be safe for sure? and what if i distill it a second time do i toss another 8 oz/?

  • now that makes sense lol

  • so the first stuff that comes out is methanol, and should be disposed of correct?

  • @craigery83 Yes, roughly the first 3-5 oz you can just toss out

  • @TheWhiskeypro or put in ur in car my freind put it in my truck n it work like a charm lol

  • @craigery83 Yes, roughly the first 3-5 oz you can just toss out

  • @TheWhiskeypro

You are an uneducated fool. The very first 50ml, called heads, that comes out you always toss, thats right. But, its not because it contains any Methanol, its because it tastes and smells like shit. Its impossible to make methanol this way.

  • @dea2k That isn't true. If you start your temps too low you can produce SMALL amounts of methanol. Every alcoholic beverage contains small amounts of methanol because you have to reach 148*F before 173*. The small amount in the first shot won't kill you or make you go blind though... you're right for the reason in tossing it. IT TASTES LIKE CHEWING ON RUBBER!!!!..lol.

  • @craigery83

    It is not methanol.

  • @craigery83 the first full shot glass is prety much already more than you need to dump out. conditions havfe to be right to make methonol and they arent they are right for ethenol there are only trace amounts of meth in the whisky even if you dont dump it. but figure at least a shot glass full to be 100 percent sure not no 3 to 5 oz thats a lot of wasted product

  • @craigery83 Dont dispose it. Its almost pure acetone, you can clean paint, stains on a driveway and a ton of other crap, but by no means should you drink it.

  • @craigery83 you can do a spoon test to find out whats good, with a spoon catch some shine coming out and set it a fire,

if it burns red your dead becuase u got lead in there,

if it burns yellow you got methanol and toss it,

if it burns blue your ready to start drinking

  • shits like rocket fuel. is this the *deemed safe to drink stuff* or the old radiator fluid stuff? because my uncle told me about shiners making there stuff out of radiator fluid *cuz its 100 percent Ethel alcohol* but it makes u go blind o.o. any tips?

  • @coozy100 I haven't heard anything about using radiator fluid but the alcohol I used was a beer made out corn, rye and barley. As for the going blind stuff, that refers to stills being made in the old days when some distillers would solder their stills with lead. So sometimes when people would drink this moonshine it would give them lead poisoning and cause problems such as blindness. Craft distillers today are typically much safer and create great tasting spirits that are safe to drink.

  • @TheWhiskeypro They didn't go blind from lead poisoning. They went blind by methanol poisoning. Methanol attacks the optic nerve. It's extremely rare. Old moonshiners used to add methanol to there brew because of it's low evaporating point, (148*F) adding kick to there brew which made it sell better. In reality, you really need to only toss the first 50ml or so. Once you get past a constant of 150* you don't have to worry about the methanol.

  • @TheWhiskeypro Not exactly.

The blindness spoken about during the prohibition was from methanol poisoning, by unethical purveyors of wood alcohol. Yes, the old recipes for anti-freeze was a simple ethanol "denatured" with a bittering compound. It could be redistilled. These days denatured alcohol contains compound with the same distillation temperature as that of ethanol.

  • @TheWhiskeypro Actually, I think the blindness rumors come from methanol, which is sometimes added to Ethanol to make it undrinkable. I don't think lead poisoning can you blindness, and I think it would take a ton to produce any health problems, as lead solder was around for a hell of a long time before people realized it was bad for you.

  • @FlashGameReviews your right, most of the "mishaps" in the past were cause by shiners add things to the shine to raise the percentage or trying to make the flavour better. i've heard of everything from formaldehyde to gasoline. i've known old fellas that melted down vinal records to drinkin the alcohal based fluids the blend out, and boozed on vinilla and rubbing alcohal. Grampy ran a still in his barn for years, died at 88.

  • @TheWhiskeypro another problem could also be methanol poisoning instead of lead

  • @TheWhiskeypro actually there have been very few actual cases of people going blind, and it was because there were morons who tried to distill denatured alcohol (basically the govt adds methanol--an optic nerve poison similar to the ethanol you drink-- to alcohol not designed for consumption)

Lead wouldn't make you blind, it would make you brain dead, put you in a coma, and/or eventually kill you

  • @coozy100 The problem with radiators is that they used lead solder, ingesting lead is bad. Moonshiners in the old days would also cut the shine with all kinds of nasty shit like formaldehyde. Never heard of using radiator fluid but it would not surprise me. Use lead free solder & throw out the heads and tails then drink with no worries.

  • @coozy100 blind temporarly unless u drank a shit load like a 40 of it

  • @coozy100 They didnt make it from radiator fluid, they just used old car radiators which has some fluid left in them, wasn't intentional, but it was deadly.

  • @coozy100 Moonshiners used to put alcohol in the radiators of cars to transport it, the radiators were lead soldered, hence the same result as Whiskeypro describes about lead poisoning. However I know of Vodka being made from anti-freeze, the fluid you indeed put in your radiator to prevent it from freezing up. This is Ethylene glycol. Sweet tasting but oxidizes to glycolic acid which oxidises to oxalic acid when consumed. It causes damage to the central nervous system and kidney failure!

  • @coozy100 only methanol is a poison to your optic nerves, ethyl alcohol is the drinkable stuff, but if you dont like having just a shot of 100% ethyl and getting hella tipsy, just add enough water to dilute it to a safe drinking range, then you can add your own flavorings in.

    original comment:

shits like rocket fuel. is this the *deemed safe to drink stuff*

  • @coozy100 Lol; don't know why I'm responding to a year old comment but here I go! Poor production from part-time shiners looking to make a little extra cash is what led to the problems back in the day. They didn't really use radiator fluid, but old radiators were used as a condenser in shitty stills. Also, if you're processing a big run, the first jar that comes off will be mostly methanol. People that actually sold the first jar were the reason for blindness and other sickness. Continued....

  • @coozy100 Even if you're making a small batch at home you need to discard the first few shots because they will contain all of the hazardous alcohol. As the op said, heavy metal poisoning was also a possibility, but as far as I know blindness is not a symptom of lead poisoning. As for it being rocket fuel, I don't actually know of anyone using it to fuel a rocket, but it worked just fine in my truck when i once ran out of gas. Worked better than gas actually.

  • @Ilovetheplatypus you are soooo right, people on youtube have nooo idea what the terms heads" "tails" and "cut" is when it comes to distilling.... people need to learn before you brew... Nice warning Platypus...

  • @coozy100 The stuff that makes you go blind is methanol, aka wood alcohol. That's a dead issue nowadays cuz that came from folks trying to use any and everything to make a buck, same goes for using radiators as stills. People would cut it with all sorts of nasty stuff, the equivalent of coke dealers stomping on product with some crap household chemicals to stretch out what they got. As far as the heads go it just tastes like $h!t, aint gonna kill you tho unless ur batch is bad anyway.

  • I love to see new stills ! Just be careful ! Read all you can to understand how not to harm anyone ! Happy Stilling !

  • how did u make ur paist?

  • @oshilz Here is an article explaining the paste:

  • @oshilz If you visit my website, there is an article explaining the process called luting the joints on your still (sorry i couldn't put the link youtube won't let me)

  • @TheWhiskeypro Is your website up?

  • @oshilz The paist I use to seal my still pot is flour mix with water....may sound funny but it is a very good sealant...
