whats with a few people knocking on macross zero , it was the prequel to macross i like it very much good fighting scenes , good graphics , didnt like macross 7 too noisy for my taste . im 33 i still get all choked up whenever i see the macross series , macross plus was good as well , frontier was alright not bad , good graphics , good story line . but i felt it was more for a new generation , since im all grown up now i stick with the classics you know but i dont hate frontier i like it.

I'm a grown 31 year old man, who as a kid I loved Macross/Robotech more than anything. I still get a bit choked up when I watch the Do You Remember Love movie, during the final battle and the song is playing.
Such a great series, though I was disappointed with Macross Zero. And against a lot of Macross Fans criticism I actually Like Macross 7 A lot. Frontier was cool too, but we need more Macross like the first or like Plus.
@wazzonah without Harmony Gold, it is very unlikely that Anime would have caught on in the West the way it has. Harmony Gold was very influential in the early/mid 80s. Robotech may be a patchwork of three different Anime stories, and it may be extremely cheesey now....but, it helped spark interest in the genre here. So give credit where credit is due. Shoji Kawamori encountered success beyond his imagination thanks to Harmony Gold and its efforts to bring Anime to the United States.
All the Macross series after Macross Plus were released only in Japan. Besides, before Robotech there was Star Blazer, Astro Boy, Candy Candy and several other shows all over the world, unrelated to Harmony Gold.

The song is in Japanese except for the title and main part of the chorus, "Shao Pai Long". It means "little white dragon." If it was in Japanese, it would be something like "chisai shiro ryu".

i thought that DYRL was never officially released, and that you can only find them either online or at a japanese mall. i thought it was never released in america. so far i have not seen macross the movie anywhere. i tried to rent it at blockbuster but they did not have it. the only time i saw it was when hollywood video in florida was still open. i did not notice it untill i called them and they said they had it , i rented it and it had deep scraches on it.

Man Im confused. Is the first part of robotech and the original macross the same set of episodes? Or did macross have more to it? I only have the robotech remastered box set to go by as I bought it randomly and enjoyed the show. Robotech (the original series) is basically 3 anime series edited into one show: Macross, Mospeada, and Southern Cross. Harmony Gold basically crafted a new story around those three shows (using Macross as the basis, but even making a few changes in Macross as well).
Then Harmony Gold tried to create their own original show, RObotech II Robotech II, which was made for the US and not Japan, is basically a continuation of this new story crafted by Harmony Gold.
(continued from before) So Robotech II has really nothing to do with the original Macross- it's more like Harmony Gold's continuation of THEIR version of the Macross story, not the original Japanese Macross.
Macross 7, Macross Plus, and now Macross Frontier ARE continuations of the original Japanese Macross series. Macross Zero is a PREQUEL to the original Japanese Macross series. (And Macross II no longer exists in the official Macross chronology).
i saw everyone of them... and I must say M Zero had the best music no doubt and M7 had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much repeating of the songs...

I was given Macross Plus on DVD by a friend ( the episodes and the film) and that sparked my interest for Macross. I don't think the Macross Plus film is really worth watching, the episodes are better and the english dub is terrible!
I liked some of the additional/extended scenes in the Macross Plus movie, but the OVA has more overall, the Movie is more than just a condensed version of the OVA however, personally I felt both are most certainly worth watching.
It really depends on how you perceive Macross as a whole. Some people may not get it's deeper themes and see it as simply a Mecha anime (I know I did the first couple of times).
I agree with you, I'm sorry to say but I think they should have just stuck with the original Macross (first series) Macross: DYRL and I guess Flashback 2012...I will always love the first two; a great story along with wonderful characters to go with it...there's no need to extend an already beautiful masterpiece...

Basically Macross, Southern Cross, and the third series, were separate series with only the words "superdeimmensional" they had in commkon. Carl Macek an American producers. simply edidted the three series together and created Robotech. EVERYONE GET THAT? Macross is and is not Robotech.
A lot of anime that never got exposure on American TV were still big hits in America so I believe Macross would still be a great success without them creating that abomination called Robotech.
They should've translated the show instead of butchering a perfectly made Anime.

and it is part of Macross, time line is not far from Macross 2, Few years after the success launch of Misa's fleet. not far before Macross 7,

ooookay....first, who is shao Pai Long? And second, to me it sounded like japanese (picked up the odd word or two :P and they sounded japanese to moi) Just seems weird for a Jpanese anime to have a chinese bloke talking about it...

Minmei is Chinese. Her family immigrated to Yokohama where they ran a Chinese restaurant when the whole SDF thing happened in 1999.
The song is in Japanese except for the title and main part of the chorus, "Shao Pai Long". It means "little white dragon." If it was in Japanese, it would be something like "chisai shiro ryu".

Lol well actually no, I have only ever watched Macross 7, Dynamite and Encore, so I dont really know much bout the first series. Sorry, I thought u was talking bout the language they was speaking, and was just bein anal :P my bad

BTW, at least watch the "Do you Remember Love?" movie so you can get the main gist of Macross. Macross 7 *barely* touches on it in just one episode.

Well, either import it or download it from bit torrent. I don't really recommend getting a version from Harmony Gold, because... well, they suck.

i thought that DYRL was never officially released, and that you can only find them either online or at a japanese mall. i thought it was never released in america. so far i have not seen macross the movie anywhere. i tried to rent it at blockbuster but they did not have it. the only time i saw it was when hollywood video in florida was still open. i did not notice it untill i called them and they said they had it , i rented it and it had deep scraches on it.

i wish hollywood video was still opened but here in florida, there are no hollywood videos because they went out of business. basically i am having trouble finding it. i am sorry, i mean i was a big fan since robotech. to be honest i watch some of the series but those were at my friends house, however i don't collect i just watch. sorry.

THat maybe true to you, but other will will enjoy the expanded universe. You don't have to like it all. I know I enjoyed the story in term of what the UNS is doing and ships, mecha etc. Even in a million year I probably never will watch macross 7. (don't like basara)I'd like to see how the macross world expand anyway.

Ah, so Macross isn't a mecha anime, but an anime about popstars. Lol.
I've never really been into the older 80's Mecha series (Gundam, Macross), they somehow bore me. I do however love modern mecha series.

Man Im confused. Is the first part of robotech and the original macross the same set of episodes? Or did macross have more to it? I only have the robotech remastered box set to go by as I bought it randomly and enjoyed the show. If I were to buy the macross box set, would I be seeing the same thing as the first set of episodes in the robotech box set? Or is there any differances? Im confused to hell but curious to.

like theOtherSteel say and like u say, only the first part of robotech and macross where the same, then that guy "Jack McKinney" and others fuck up the story of macross and try to create something but of course thats story line doesnt work at all, thats why only the first part of robotech has some meaning.

Robotech: Sentinels was a Harmony Gold production that fell through and remains permanently imcomplete.
It is a part of Robotech, not a part of Macross.
Robotech is a new script overwriting the stories of Macross, Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeda into one giant series.
A series of Robotch books was written unde the psuedonym Jack McKinney, and it wrote out the Sentinels storyline.
Robotech: Shadow Chronicles picks that storyline, but not exactly. (Oops, ran out of space.)

I'll try to sort this out.
Robotech (the original series) is basically 3 anime series edited into one show: Macross, Mospeada, and Southern Cross. Harmony Gold basically crafted a new story around those three shows (using Macross as the basis, but even making a few changes in Macross as well).
Then Harmony Gold tried to create their own original show, RObotech II Robotech II, which was made for the US and not Japan, is basically a continuation of this new story crafted by Harmony Gold.

(continued from before) So Robotech II has really nothing to do with the original Macross- it's more like Harmony Gold's continuation of THEIR version of the Macross story, not the original Japanese Macross.
Macross 7, Macross Plus, and now Macross Frontier ARE continuations of the original Japanese Macross series. Macross Zero is a PREQUEL to the original Japanese Macross series. (And Macross II no longer exists in the official Macross chronology).

oh god I was so sad that they chose to end it with only 25 episodes since its a 25-year thing... I kinda thought that there was too much buildup and it was resolved in like 3 episodes or something... sorta disappointed there

I was given Macross Plus on DVD by a friend ( the episodes and the film) and that sparked my interest for Macross. I don't think the Macross Plus film is really worth watching, the episodes are better and the english dub is terrible!

I liked some of the additional/extended scenes in the Macross Plus movie, but the OVA has more overall, the Movie is more than just a condensed version of the OVA however, personally I felt both are most certainly worth watching.

It really depends on how you perceive Macross as a whole. Some people may not get it's deeper themes and see it as simply a Mecha anime (I know I did the first couple of times).

I agree with you, I'm sorry to say but I think they should have just stuck with the original Macross (first series) Macross: DYRL and I guess Flashback 2012...I will always love the first two; a great story along with wonderful characters to go with it...there's no need to extend an already beautiful masterpiece...

They're 2 pretty different things...
Both are very epic and very good. The Robotech theme by Ulpio Minucci (RIP) sounds kinda more optimistic, while the Macross one by Kentarou Haneda (RIP) sounds more dramatic and serious...

This documentary takes you up to macross zero which is a prequel to the orgininal macross series during the wars prior to the crashing of the superfortress. The newest macross premeired in decemeber in japan Macross Frontier which takes place about 80 years post macross 7.

I'm also a Macross Fan,It was a phenomenal here in the philippines in the 80s,In fact i got my first Valkyrie toy during Christmas day of 1986, the Veritech fighter toy spread like wildfire, some were turn into a pencil sharpener, so you can take it on school & play it ( to bad, my Valkyrie doesn't have one) now, i'm 29 i have a VF-0 Brought to me by my aunt, from Japan ( my pasalubong), I can't wait to see the new one: VF-25 from Macross Frontier: 25 year anniversary of Macross...T.Y. Basically Macross, Southern Cross, and the third series, were separate series with only the words "superdeimmensional" they had in commkon. Carl Macek an American producers. simply edidted the three series together and created Robotech. EVERYONE GET THAT? Macross is and is not Robotech.

A lot of anime that never got exposure on American TV were still big hits in America so I believe Macross would still be a great success without them creating that abomination called Robotech.
They should've translated the show instead of butchering a perfectly made Anime.

Never before has a fricken COMIC trumpted video for continuity. Personally I think it's a shame.
