i think the wand is strong as in it can do powerful magic, not that it is indestructible. It is in essence still made out of wood just as any other wand. Harry's broke when he and Hermione landed on it and Ron's broke in the car.
so bloody annoying i do not comprehend why the left out the scene in dumbledores office and also the core of the wand is a black thestral hair not some unicorn shit
Honestly, all the films were great, accept IN MY OPINION I think all the ones David yates did werent all that great. Alfonzo ( I thiknk that is how you spell his name) Did a GREAT job and he should have stayed on the set and done most of the movies. This is all my opinion!
In the book he used the elder wand to repair his old wand and left the elder wand in dumbledore's office. He didn't break it. The book ended much better than this
@pbicecream1811 But wouldnt you think that the most powerful wand in the world wouldnt be able to just snap in half? It doesnt make much sense to me. I mean, Ron wand in the 2nd movie was more sturdy than the Elder wand! It took this giant car crash to damage his wand. All opinion
ok wtf not only does he not repair the phoenix feather wand he breaks the elder wand hello whoever directed this obviously did not read the book he puts the wand back in Dumbledore tomb where it belongs
the era will never die. as long as one true fan still exists there books, movies, characters, the legacy will never end and will always be there for anyone who needs it. hogwarts and Harry potter will always be there to welcome us home. some people do not get why we act like it is real. they are not believers in magic love, death and imagination. Rowling made this real so it is real. as long as we believe the legacy will live on. Hogwarts forever
read the book first, of course harry mended his wand, they just cut it out or not bothered to do it like a heap of other would be good scenes. if you didnt read the books, 3,4,5 would not make any sense. Everyone should read the books!
wow how many people actually liked the movie i mean part 2 part 1 was ok but part 2 missed sooooo much and the wand part was what bugged me the most i wanted to see harry talk to the Dumbledore picture and then fix his wand and he was supposed to be in the headmasters office when that happened because when he repaired the wand it was sitting on the desk and then he got rid of the elders wand. am i right???
It bugs me how much they goofed this up in the movie. He didn't even fix the wand int he movie, so anyone that hasn't read the book is gonna be all: "NOOOO HARRY HAS NO WAND NOW!"
remember that time they had Bellatrix's wand then when the goblin at Gringotts asked for it they were like "we're screwed"....YOU STOLE HER WAND AT MALFOY'S HOUSE!!!
Ok, for those of you hwo are respoding to my comment on this video about the wand scenario, i have my own theory, and others have theirs, so please quit telling me I'm wrong.
I could see a spin off HP series coming from Harry putting the wand back in dumbledore's tomb..someone finds out about its existence and traces it back to Harry..they kill Harry/take his own wand and BAM-the next voldemort (or someone with extreme power) is back.
lol... agreed. I think it was SMARTER to break the wand, but I like how in the book they give it back to Dumbledore. And I was really mad that they never showed Harry repairing is own want :(
So what? He just uses Malfoys from now on? Blah :p
1) A wand doesn't become the elder Wand if it's owner won over the previous owner of the elder wand. The elder wand is the elder wand, only it's allegiance changes.
2) Everyone can use any other wand, but only someone who has won the allegiance of the wand can use it for 100%, with a normal wand if an owner loses to someone, the owner still has it's allegiance but the victor will also have the allegiance of the wand.
3) The elder wand is different in that it only gives his allegiance to 1 person
“Dumbledore didn’t want to lose his wand at that point and Draco disarmed him. So that meant that the wand gave Draco its allegiance, even though Draco never knew it, even though Draco never touched it. When Harry wrestles Draco’s “everyday” wand out of his hand at the Malfoy’s mansion, he conquers Draco, and therefore the Elder Wand — hidden in Dumbledore’s tomb at the time — transfers its allegiance to Harry."- JK Rowling
actually, movies do things differently from books all the time. I have come to accept this, and this felt more dramatic, actually, than the (admittedly still cool, but very predictable and actually low emotion) fixing of the old wand. This shows a BREAK with the past and a moving to a new tomorrow. So fine, snap the most powerful wand in the entire world in half and chuck the pieces over a bridge into a bottomless pit forever.
The REAL mistake was: Ron did not say 'bloody hell'.
yes, he could have fixed his old wand first, but that would a bit less dramatic and final. picking one over the other rather than trying to do both actually shows good directing skills because it sends a solid message one way or the other. sometimes you just have to edit even very well-loved material. do you think this choice was easy for the director to make? I think I understand where he's coming from though.
Ron STILL should have said 'bloody hell' though. There's no excuse for cutting that.
@puddingmaster2 yeah exactly. I was like.. what the hell are you doing!? It's a shame and pretty stupid to leave that out. I saw I misspelled 'wand' xD oooooops.
because, movies tell different stories than books. it's difficult to show lots of different themes going on in a movie, while it's easy for an author to build incredibly complex mental and emotional systems in their characters. This is 'final battle' movie, the end of an age and the start of a new. Fixing the old wand would be a bit 'clingy to the past' and the movie just snapping the Elder Wand (with NO fixing) shows a sharper line between past and future. It could have gone either way.
1. Harry didn't just break it. He fixed his old holly and phenix tall feather wand first.
2. That leave's him with Draco's wand... For the rest of he's life.... Just saying
3.(And must importantly) IF IT'S SO POWERFUL HOW COME HE COULD JUST SNAP IT IN HALF LIKE THAT? OH YA, CAUSE HE DIDN'T! He put it back in Dumbledor's tumb!
I mean really movie wrighters!!! How much harder is it to end it like the book?!!?!!?!!?!!?
@MissEHgirl any wand can be snapped by the owner if they want to. it is possible. and i kind of like that idea more. just putting it in a grave always seemed stupid to me. i mean come on. someone can just dig it up and it's back out there all over again. broken not so easy to bring it back
@MissEHgirl Just because a wand is magically powerful, doesn't mean it can't be broken. Dumbledore even says in the books that, although Harry's original wand was remarkably powerful, it was still broken easily by Hermione's spell.
@TheG1rlwh0L1ved Well, the big wrong thing with that scene was that he didn't fix his wand first. That was a stupid mistake. They should have put that in.
@TheG1rlwh0L1ved I think the sad one here is the person who, whilst dedicated to Harry Potter, has wasted clearly marked letters on a keyboard and used numbers instead. They do not devote their time to finding mistakes. They might be observant. Besides, in Harry Potter 1, everybody noticed he was on the other side. Some people just see the smaller things.
@TheG1rlwh0L1ved - Just because you notice a flaw in a movie doesn't mean you're a negative loner who doesn't have a life outside of watching movies. I write fiction stories as a hobby and I can catch twist endings to movies with my eyes closed. I also point out flaws in movies when they're noticable. Does that mean all I do with my time is watch movies? No. Don't be a jerk.
@TheG1rlwh0L1ved there r lots of things in HP movies were im like wtf.......like a ton. i dont think its sad to find flaws in movies-they probably dont devote all their time 2 it though. + its pretty retarded-epicaly retarded-that he didnt fix his wand first i mean really!?!?
p.s. how does drunk toddler have anything to do with this???????? wth?
Any one relize in the book Harry fixes his own wand with the Elder wand, but in the movie , they show him throwing it into an abyss before fixing his wand O.o looks like he's in a bit of a perdicamint....
and he never shows that he fixes his wand. are people supposed to assume that he buys another one? I mean i know hw rich. but its supposed to be a small fortune, like he can take care of himslef. not the richest MF alive. plus if you do the math, that is $110 US muggle dollars for a wand. fuck that. I'm going to Jimmy Kiddels Wonderful Wands (there is a sign in one of the movies so i like to pretend they are the discount wands.)
Deathly Hallows Part 2 was incredible but the movie mistakes were so obvious xD this being one (especially because someone could easily find it and mend it back to normal) and the fact that 19 Years Later Harry didn't have a scar. I'm pretty sure the books ends with 'his scar didn't hurt for 19 years and all was well' :/
@OnThePavementFilming Yeah, no thanks. In case you hadn't noticed this "just a book" is important to us. Last I looked, there is a convention, a world dedicated to this series, and multiple websites. If this was "just a book", I don't think those things would be quite so successful.
@iamacatspy It's sad people revolve their lives around that. Sure, they're good books and movies. I love them, but people need to chill out about it. Yeah, I get that its one of the most popular franchises known to mankind but people care too much about these kind of things. No hate coming from my end by the way. That's all I'm saying.
@OnThePavementFilming I dont think its sad at all. I think its sad when people revolve their world around movies instead of books. Harry Potter got me through the worst times in my life- Cancer, bullying etc. Its real for the people who read the books and believed in the magic not only described in the books, but the magic of literature and its power on youth.
@Heatherhb03 I'm glad it helped you through those things. I really am :) And I love reading and literature. Its one of my favorite things. All I was saying was that people are freaking out over this error "which isn't really one" because the production company has creative rights to change what they want
It shows Harry doesn't care for powerful magic, and if he kept it I would think that's a bit you know... Unmatching. If you are going to criticize Harry for breaking it, save it for yourself. Everybody is different.
@MrRawrkittyRawr Harry doesn't break it in the book though he keeps it and uses it to repair his old wand then planned hiding it until he died a natural death so that the wand would loose it's powers and thus ending it's legacy
I get why they did it, though. It was just a way to finalize everything. Threat over. I don't think it would have taken much more time to explain leaving it with Dumbledore, but it's a small thing.
I've alway's had a bit of a problem with the way they handle wands in the movies. Like, when someone grabs it by the tip instead of the handle. Just, no.
harry was such a dick head in that scene i went to watch it like the fitrst day it came out and everyone booed wen he done that and the ushers had to stop and pause the movie
I like the idea that he broke it myself, I thought it was ironic. It's like saying some painting is worth millions of dollars and just setting it ablaze; not so great now is it? But everyone has their own preferences.
Okay, the wand cannot be broken in the first place, and in the second place, he never DID break it. He mended his old wand with it and then hid it so that it could never cause any trouble again. I thought that they were making two parts so that it could be accurate?
for everyone who is aggreeing with the guy who made this, shut up, mr lovegood said 'POWERFUL' not 'UNBREAKABLE' he meant its really powereful in 'magic' terms, OKAY?
Actually, I think that the statement Harry makes here in the movie is more powerful than what he does in the book. So I like this better, it really suits his character and shows how different he is from voldemort: He has absolutely no desire of great power. Also, of course an 'action scene' is much more suitable in a movie. Dialogs, like the one where Harry tells Dumbledore he wants to keep the wand and die a natural death, are more suitable for books.
I thought that he used it to fix his wand, since no other could fix it, but it could being the master wand- then he broke it saying that he likes his own wand.
@faceless665 That's what I thought too. But, I just checked, and the others are right. He fixed his wand then said that he's going to put the wand "back where it came from". He doesn't break it, although I'd like that more. :P
@SilverGryffyn,the wand cracks because it was used by voldemort, and voldemort wasn't the owner is the wand can't take it being used by another person, also the movies dont HAVE To be the same as the books! Also ..the wand's made of wood, any wand can be broken these days :/
the elder wand cannot be snapped in the book because it IS the most powerful wand and i think that harry did not keep it but put it back in dumbledor tomb. After all only him (ron and hermione too) and before that voldemore did know and it's not like they are going to tell anyone .
ok in the book it states that it can mend wands.... why couldnt he mend his old wand before snapping it! grrr and if that wand belongs to him... he snapped it so what wand wpould he use now?!
@Mjackson42 the movie kind of screwed Harry out of a wand, didn't it? In the book, he uses the Elder Wand to repair his wand and then just put the Elder Wand away. I can't remember if he put it back in Dumbledore's tomb but he doesn't use it again; he keeps it put up and is currently hoping to die a natural death so the curse will be broken.
@AadenKDragon yeah its stupid how they didnt hint at or shown him reparing him wand because now people who havent read the books are gonna think well.. now what he has no wand.
@Mjackson42 I remember seeing it in theaters about a week about after it came out, about half the audience were like "WTF? Now he has no wand! Harry should have fixed his own first, damnit!" and everyone who had read the book all said "He did" at the same time. I ended up spending an extra 30 mins in the theater helping explain what had actually happened. I hate that part so much. It doesn't do the ending any justice, really.
That's what I hated about that in the movie--that Harry breaks it. In the books, such a thing never occurs; Harry intends to keep it with him, and hopes to die a natural death, thus ending the magic of the Elder Wand (it's legacy is that the previous owner must be killed for the power to remain). It's unbreakable at the same time as unbeatable. I also disliked that throughout the battle scenes the wand starts to crack. As if!!
@SilverGryffyn he does break it in the book doesn't he? after deciding he doesn't want it and using the elder wand to mend his previous wand, and then breaks it.
@perfectjeans .......No. He never breaks it. He uses it to fix his wand and puts it away; he either puts back in Dumbledore's tomb or he leaves it in the Headmaster's office. He never uses it and he never breaks it.
@SilverGryffyn Yeah, my entire family was disappointed by that! But, he left it in the Headmasters office after he fixed his holly and phoenix feather wand. I have the book here, so I can prove it.
@SilverGryffyn i agree. i also think they should have done the final battle the way it was done in the book. i liked how harry basically call voldemort an idiot because voldemort didnt even understand his own plan
@SilverGryffyn Yeah, too right. Harry just wanted his old phoenix feather one, so he fixed it. In the movie, at the end he has NO wand, and it annoys me a lot.
@SilverGryffyn Well, he does not plan to keep it with him until he dies, he plans to put it back in Dumbledore's tomb but first he uses it to repair his broken phoenix feather wand. That was the part they should have included.
Ep 6, 7.1 and 7.2 are enterely a big error; the biggest on cinema's history!

and he never shows that he fixes his wand. are people supposed to assume that he buys another one? I mean i know hw rich. but its supposed to be a small fortune, like he can take care of himslef. not the richest MF alive. plus if you do the math, that is $110 US muggle dollars for a wand. fuck that. I'm going to Jimmy Kiddels Wonderful Wands (there is a sign in one of the movies so i like to pretend they are the discount wands.)

xGummiBearsx 2 weeks ago
Deathly Hallows Part 2 was incredible but the movie mistakes were so obvious xD this being one (especially because someone could easily find it and mend it back to normal) and the fact that 19 Years Later Harry didn't have a scar. I'm pretty sure the books ends with 'his scar didn't hurt for 19 years and all was well' :/

@iamacatspy No? Where do you get that from? I simply stated that because people were freaking out about it. Its just a book and a movie. Get over it.
OnThePavementFilming 2 weeks ago
@OnThePavementFilming Yeah, no thanks. In case you hadn't noticed this "just a book" is important to us. Last I looked, there is a convention, a world dedicated to this series, and multiple websites. If this was "just a book", I don't think those things would be quite so successful.
iamacatspy 2 weeks ago
@iamacatspy It's sad people revolve their lives around that. Sure, they're good books and movies. I love them, but people need to chill out about it. Yeah, I get that its one of the most popular franchises known to mankind but people care too much about these kind of things. No hate coming from my end by the way. That's all I'm saying.
OnThePavementFilming 2 weeks ago
@OnThePavementFilming I'm sorry that that's how you feel.
iamacatspy 2 weeks ago
@OnThePavementFilming I dont think its sad at all. I think its sad when people revolve their world around movies instead of books. Harry Potter got me through the worst times in my life- Cancer, bullying etc. Its real for the people who read the books and believed in the magic not only described in the books, but the magic of literature and its power on youth.
Heatherhb03 2 weeks ago
@Heatherhb03 I'm glad it helped you through those things. I really am :) And I love reading and literature. Its one of my favorite things. All I was saying was that people are freaking out over this error "which isn't really one" because the production company has creative rights to change what they want

It shows Harry doesn't care for powerful magic, and if he kept it I would think that's a bit you know... Unmatching. If you are going to criticize Harry for breaking it, save it for yourself. Everybody is different.
MrRawrkittyRawr 2 weeks ago
@MrRawrkittyRawr Harry doesn't break it in the book though he keeps it and uses it to repair his old wand then planned hiding it until he died a natural death so that the wand would loose it's powers and thus ending it's legacy
dalyahuntershow 2 weeks ago
I get why they did it, though. It was just a way to finalize everything. Threat over. I don't think it would have taken much more time to explain leaving it with Dumbledore, but it's a small thing.
I've alway's had a bit of a problem with the way they handle wands in the movies. Like, when someone grabs it by the tip instead of the handle. Just, no.

I like the idea that he broke it myself, I thought it was ironic. It's like saying some painting is worth millions of dollars and just setting it ablaze; not so great now is it? But everyone has their own preferences.

awesomemhandmore 3 weeks ago
Okay, the wand cannot be broken in the first place, and in the second place, he never DID break it. He mended his old wand with it and then hid it so that it could never cause any trouble again. I thought that they were making two parts so that it could be accurate?

for everyone who is aggreeing with the guy who made this, shut up, mr lovegood said 'POWERFUL' not 'UNBREAKABLE' he meant its really powereful in 'magic' terms, OKAY?
Chocoholic5539 3 weeks ago
Actually, I think that the statement Harry makes here in the movie is more powerful than what he does in the book. So I like this better, it really suits his character and shows how different he is from voldemort: He has absolutely no desire of great power. Also, of course an 'action scene' is much more suitable in a movie. Dialogs, like the one where Harry tells Dumbledore he wants to keep the wand and die a natural death, are more suitable for books.
seinveilig 3 weeks ago
tbh i liked the movie ending more than the book ending.. but the speech between harry and voldemort should'v been in the movie :/

I thought that he used it to fix his wand, since no other could fix it, but it could being the master wand- then he broke it saying that he likes his own wand.
faceless665 3 weeks ago
@faceless665 That's what I thought too. But, I just checked, and the others are right. He fixed his wand then said that he's going to put the wand "back where it came from". He doesn't break it, although I'd like that more. :P
catsodas 3 weeks ago
@SilverGryffyn,the wand cracks because it was used by voldemort, and voldemort wasn't the owner is the wand can't take it being used by another person, also the movies dont HAVE To be the same as the books! Also ..the wand's made of wood, any wand can be broken these days :/

the elder wand cannot be snapped in the book because it IS the most powerful wand and i think that harry did not keep it but put it back in dumbledor tomb. After all only him (ron and hermione too) and before that voldemore did know and it's not like they are going to tell anyone .

xXShrinkWrapXx 1 month ago
@xXShrinkWrapXx yeah i know but why didnt he do it n the movie.. so in the movie he had no wand -.-
Mjackson42 1 month ago
@Mjackson42 the movie kind of screwed Harry out of a wand, didn't it? In the book, he uses the Elder Wand to repair his wand and then just put the Elder Wand away. I can't remember if he put it back in Dumbledore's tomb but he doesn't use it again; he keeps it put up and is currently hoping to die a natural death so the curse will be broken.
AadenKDragon 1 week ago
@AadenKDragon yeah its stupid how they didnt hint at or shown him reparing him wand because now people who havent read the books are gonna think well.. now what he has no wand.
Mjackson42 1 week ago
@Mjackson42 I remember seeing it in theaters about a week about after it came out, about half the audience were like "WTF? Now he has no wand! Harry should have fixed his own first, damnit!" and everyone who had read the book all said "He did" at the same time. I ended up spending an extra 30 mins in the theater helping explain what had actually happened. I hate that part so much. It doesn't do the ending any justice, really.
AadenKDragon 1 week ago
@AadenKDragon hahah yeah , hence why they shouldve read the books first -.-
Mjackson42 1 week ago
That's what I hated about that in the movie--that Harry breaks it. In the books, such a thing never occurs; Harry intends to keep it with him, and hopes to die a natural death, thus ending the magic of the Elder Wand (it's legacy is that the previous owner must be killed for the power to remain). It's unbreakable at the same time as unbeatable. I also disliked that throughout the battle scenes the wand starts to crack. As if!!
SilverGryffyn 1 month ago 79
@SilverGryffyn The film is an 'adaption' of the book so doesn't have to follow it perfectly...

AadenKDragon 1 week ago
@SilverGryffyn Yeah, my entire family was disappointed by that! But, he left it in the Headmasters office after he fixed his holly and phoenix feather wand. I have the book here, so I can prove it.

@SilverGryffyn Well, he does not plan to keep it with him until he dies, he plans to put it back in Dumbledore's tomb but first he uses it to repair his broken phoenix feather wand. That was the part they should have included.
