never really tused this software but it looks awesome, i use windows on my mac mostly for games and ive heard vmware doesn't work too well with that, but i can see how it can be really handy with apps, might have to give it a try :)
Or just use virtualbox it's free... I have a HP, and a DELL running Linux Mint, and inside Linux I run Windows 7 in virtualbox, vmWare, or Parallels Desktop for Linux ... So why do I need a Mac... Linux Mint is free stable and secure, or is free PC-BSD stable and secure... I get to keep my PC dual-booted with Linux, and Windows 7, and I saved money with out buying a Mac.
vm ware if your at school boot camp if your using high cpu usage things such as video editing or playing games. But if you gona play games eaither get a Console cause they have the best games or a pc cause there only good for games
o yeah, right but u cant run software that well, windows in vmWare SUCKs u cant play any good game, not even online mmorpg low graphics games like tibia, uCANT, they Run Slow as Hell
okay, VMware can be better. But only if you are using applications that are small. But if you use windows for gaming and programs that need a lot of ram and video card memory then you should definately boot camp and use windows natively. Other wise you just wont see the quality of gaming and big programs because you being on leopard and your mac programs take up ram and card memory. Then opening up VMware and opening a whole nother OS takes alot of ram. So Bootcamp for gaming and such. then this
is it possible to use bootcamp and vm fusion together, like turn one on and off? i use my mac 99% of the time, but I am installing windows to use revit and autocad, do you think bootcamp or vm fusion would be better? i like the idea of not having to reboot the computer, but i am concerned that these programs may work better at full performance. also, will using vm fusion slow down the mac performance when just using mac? (sorry lots of questions)
You can install for example Vista via Bootcamp, boot from it in the normal way. You could then install VMWare Fusion and it will pick up and run the Bootcamp version of Vista... or you could install a separate virtual machine.
Either would be fine for Autocad, though some would say that Bootcamp will offer better performance.
VMWare fusion uses some Mac resources when it is running, so will slow down Mac performance slightly. U can quit Fusion completely when not in use to free your Mac.
No, other than having trojans, keyloggers, adware, and a host of other crapware installed without your knowledge, sending all your personal data, banking passwords, etc. to some teenaged hacker in Russia, Windows is just as good as OSX. I highly recommend it!
I am using Parallels (can be said very similar to VMWare) on my MacBook Pro (17",2009vers) with XP on virtual machine.
What I can say that it doesn't run very fast (meaning not what you would expect from the strongest MacBook) on XP-Office loads and runs like on a middle class desktop (eg 2 years old normal computer), games have problem with graphic card (bad support by software), but when i run Warcraft III it runs lovely-no lags at all. So I guess it depends on app, but generally VMs are slow.
I used the trial of parallels, & it just didnt wanted to make a VM of my bootcamp particion... in begin I had 1, but it didnt open half of the programs, then I wanted to make a new one, & it couldnt get my bootcamp part. it created one without any of the programs I have installed on my windows particion.. I read the whole guide & it didnt help kept refering to 2 pages which made me crazy [like this : Page 240 :"go to page 110", page 110: "go to page 240" just doesnt end like this]
Awesome! What can I say. This video has shown me that VMWare Fusion is the way to go. I had been delaying switching to the Mac, but this has convinced me to buy a new iMac and this software. Many thanks.
the better option would be to run mac in a vm on a windows machine, then it wouldnt lag from the mac's shitty spec's

Where is the Windows programme stored? in the mac or externally or on the boot camped side of your mac?

@dasmonkeyman In a preset virtual disk on your hard drive.

do you need anti virus program to use windows on mac?
catha86 1 year ago
@catha86 It is a good idea to install one within your Windows virtual machine.

does vmware require its own partition or will the first partition i gave for bootcamp be enough for vmware?
Kerpaltheballer 1 year ago
@Kerpaltheballer It sets up its own hard drive space for virtual machines, you control how big this is.

So, do I have to install XP?
I don't understand how I'd set this up. If I buy the VMWare disc, then install that, how do I install windows ?
niallswand 1 year ago
@niallswand You have to have VMWare Fusion plus a Windows CD to install (XP, Vista, 7).

@davomrmac Thanks! I just fished out my XP disc, can't wait to get my mac!

I used VMWare, but XP was VERY slow on it (macbook 2.2 Ghz white) so I switched to bootcamp.
Still, XP in bootcamp is not as smooth as on a Windows computer (using Dragon Naturally speaking software).
What's the best thing to do.. or am I just not aware of something/doing something wrong??

kool... but only in bootcamp you can play games and do other complex stuff. those fusion guys should fix this problem, rest is ok.
nameurself 3 years ago
this is good if you are running small programs, but there will be a loss in performance because you are running two operating systems at once.
I like boot camp more because I can run windows at full preformance.
matieman77 3 years ago 2
Try Parallels, i use it on my MB Air running Leopard. It integrates the Windows apps directly into Mac OSX (even adds an icon to the dock).
I've been using it for a month now and it works like a charm.

Wake up mate. VMware Fusion has the Unity mode for that. And the VMware virtualization layer is far better than anything else on the market.

macsamillions 3 years ago
Yes, XP loads really quickly in VMWare Fusion. It seems faster than a dedicated PC of a similar specification.

did you have to purschase it?
