  • cool video I'll post one up soon about my snails

  • whats the mystery about em'??

  • @PuffyPikachu1 When they were first put on the market, no one knew what their exact species was, but now we know that they are Pomacea diffusa, but the common name "Mystery" stuck.

  • @PuffyPikachu1 Because you can get diffrent colors and a time people thought they where diffrent spieces but they was just diffrent coloring form same spiece- Pomacea diffusa, but sometimes thehy sell other snails from the fmaily "Ampullariidae" as "mystery snail" or pomace diffusa (older Bridgesii). Special about pomacea diffusa si that they dont eat all your aquarium plants- like many other from this family would do :P

  • This is so awesome! I'm excited, as my pair of mystery snails squirted out a batch of these on the lid where I feed my fish! She did this just yesterday, so I'm looking everything up! We were told we had two females, but lo and behold, our golden mystery snail is a boy, while our brown/gold striped is a girl! Wow!

  • How do i make my snail have babies? Should i buy more than one?

  • @TangyWhiteRice yes you need a male and female

  • cute

  • I GOT ONE OF THOSE FOR FREE THE GUY DID NOTICE HE GOT COUGHT ON THE NET WHEN HE WAS TRYIN TO CATCH THE FISH I WANTED SINCE HIS SOOO SMALL LOL

  • @cleerin1

watch the free snails, they are the ones they tend to multiply quickly, they are pest pond snails

  • @sailornight6 o yea i know that i breed them for food lol for the fish

  • @sailornight6 a cheap add to a breeding feeder fish tank you know chad, shiners all live bred. these are a good food source for clown loaches as well

  • @sailornight6 Otherwise known as ramshorn snails. You DO NOT want those. They commonly attach themselves and their egg sacks to aquarium plants then all of the sudden when you take the plants home, guess what, you have a snail problem. Also ramshorn or pond snails lay their eggs under water where as Mystery Snails or Apple Snails lay their eggs above water. Any way as sailornight6 has said watch it with the pest snails. They multiply like cockraches.

  • aaaawwww there so cute i used to have a garden snail called charlie ssooo cute!!

  • Whats gross about it

  • gross

  • My snail laid eggs about a week ago, on the side of the tank. Do I leave them there or should I try to burry them in our sand? I've read different things so I'm lost.

  • @deadalive85

well what kind of eggs are they, are they gel looking ones or are they right above the tank lid?

  • @sailornight6 how do u know the snails are laying eggs because i dont want like 1000 snails in my ten gal tank

  • @Lurk1ngLurk3r

you can see them, they lay right above the water line normally. i once found some on the under side of my hood, they can get quite inventive when they want to be

  • me feel sorry for you although your probably say no i dont but i want that many! Instead my brothers stupid snail donald only had two.... wah Anyway yaaaaaaa so ...

    ;P bye

  • My snail laid eggs....one week later there was more than 50 tiny snail in my fish tank....and i am not kidding...After a whole month my whole fish tank was covered in hundreds of tiny snail....i had to separate them from the fish...so i put them in a different tank but they ended up eating their mom...I just noticed they reproduce themselves..Stupid snail now i cant get rid of them..Im NEVER going to buy another water snail EVER. Stupid snail invasion:(!

  • @YourFanForLife23

if you do not want baby snails, next time i would remove the eggs and throw them out.

FYI you can sell mystery snails back to most fish stores and even online. a lot of my little guys found new homes with people online.

  • @sailornight6 But i didnt see it when it was laying eggs..

  • @sailornight6 I wouldnt be able to throw the poor little babies out D:

  • @909Dwayne as cruel as it sounds, you have to make a choice when you keep fish, especially if your not looking to breed. if you do not have the time or space to raise lots of little mouths you have to make a choice.

  • @sailornight6 I would give da wittle babies to a pet store. I could not hurt my snailies.

  • @909Dwayne it is a good option. but they will not take them until they are a certian size, which again meants time space and alot of little mouths to take care of.

or the fish store will throw them in with a snail eater then they are dead anyways

  • lol its like a traffic jam in there!

  • Heyy plz help me! i want to make mine breed! how could i do that? thnx

  • @MsKaylee100 i am not sure how to how to make them breed. just be patient and make sure you have a male and female snail in the tank.

  • what do you feed them?

  • @LiveTheLimit anything sinking, so they can get to it. make sure you have some sort of a calcium supplement for their shell development

  • about a 2.5 gal hexigon tank btw

  • Just had some snails hatch this morning it was a ivory mystery snail, i didn't want to keep all of them in the tank they were hatching in so i put a few inches of water in a small tank with some algey tablets with a light beside the tank to keep it warm, almost of the snails are at the waterline just chillin, is this normal ( about 11 hours after they have hatched) and do you have any tips for careing for them. I just baught a heater for them and i plan on moving the water line up to about half

  • @Juggalo4LifeNCmyspac

that is very normal, mystery snails are air breathers, and your doing a good thing for making it easy for the little guys to get to the surface. the first few days they may not eat for they will have full bellies and tired from popping out of there eggs, but don't panic.

  • do you are someone you know have snails for sale?

  • i had tadpoles and a snail then POOF 2 million snails

  • @madisu again they are more then likely the hitchhiker pond snail. trust me when these guys grow up they will look nothing like those 2 million snails

  • how long does it usally take for the to get ping pong ball sized?

  • @lordkesil

good question, about two months given good tank size heat and food

  • No u don't I have 13 in my pond and 1 in my fish tank and I got them from the pet shop they give them away cos they come in of plants

  • @lee101ct those are pond snails. they are different kind of snail then the one featured in the video. these are mystery snails part of the apple snail family. they do not sneak into your tank, they have to be purchased, and they grow up to be big snails while the pond snail always stays small.

  • They come from live pond/tank plants and there a pain when u have lots of them as they have been known to come out of the water

  • @lee101ct

actually those are pond snails which is a pest snail. these are mystery snails, which do not breed as fast as the pond snail.

yes they will come out of the water but no they do not come in from tank plants. mystery snails have to be purchased to get them.

  • awesome

  • How do you know if the snail is pregnant or ready to breed?

  • @azianxsinx

this is not easy, there is really no give away until they start laying eggs.

some females will come above the water line a bit more often to try and select the perfect spot for her babies to develop in.

  • is there any signs that show your snail is pregnant or ready to breed?

  • The Skunk Botia/Hora's Loach eat snails quickly. If you become overstocked, use these little guys to clean up for you.

  • @Hotaru845

no worries all of them eventually found brand new homes. the remainder either stayed with me or went to my local fish store which sold them. mysteries are not like some other snails which go a little crazy when it comes to breeding.

  • i have really fine sand in my tank do u know if that will be a problem for the snails?

  • @ChedderHead42

nope not at all, in fact i think some guys really like sand, easier to find food

  • @ChedderHead42 That's perfect for them. Crushed coral and small snail shells are good for them to b/c when they break down they will put more calcium into the water which is a staple for your snail.

  • @Clarissa4o9

they also love tums as well, cuttle bone will work as well.

  • they don't do great with algae but they are great at picking up food on the bottom of the tank.

  • do they keep your tank clean?...

  • that doesn't really mean its dead. the easiest but the most unpleasant way to tell if a snail is dead is to take it out and smell it. if it smells like dog poop then its dead.

snails like to float around and goof off, so it floating is not a sure sign its dead.

  • I got a Black Mystery Snail yesterday (my old one died a couple weeks ago) and I put him in my tank. He didn't move and when I woke up in the morning he was floating at the top. Is he dead?

  • this would be cooler if it was sped up!!!

  • wow! lots of snails! view my channel for a free gift!

  • DEM SNAILS.

  • Hi, nice video! :)

Do you know how to tell between golden apple snail baby and mystery snail baby?

Because I just saw like 4 transperant snail babies in my tank and I don't know if they come from the plants or they are my mystery snail's babies.

    Thanks..

  • put some cabbage in thei r gonna be all over it

  • I'm in snail hell! Five egg sacks, three hatched just yesterday...and I've tried to separate as many of the grain~of~rice size baby snails as I can..118 and still counting..with two more to still hatch! GAH!!! Don't wish to breed them!

  • do u wanna sell them?if u do, ill get some if there cheep!!!!

  • Sorry, I have since sold them for store credit at the local Fins'n'Feathers petshop! But if you buy a few adults, you're guranteed lots of babies!

  • You didn't make them speak anymore than the point when he sail "i am ok really".

  • nope they hatch into really little versions of a large mystery snail

  • there were two egg patches

  • these look awesome man. i want to breed them so bad. i have 2 blue apple snails but my platies pick them to death. im about to set them up their own little 10gallon tank and i hope mine end up like yours:)

  • Hey can a black one breed with a gold one? I have one of each...

  • i think there pretty indiscriminate on what kind of snail they mount. i used to have a blue one a long time ago and he was always climbing on the black ones. they really shouldn't care

  • what type of food do you give them, and how much?

  • they eat just about anything. i like anything that sinks to the bottom of the tank so they get a chance to nibble at it. and a tum on occasion, they need the calcium for there shells.

  • I need help

i want to set up a mystery snail tank and breed them but i don't know a few things

    1. How big of tank

    2. Water temp.

    3. how much space above the water they need to lay their eggs(or if they need any)

if you could help me out i would appreciate it much :D

  • i have a five gallon but honestly i would have a bigger tank, a ten gallon would probally work, gives them more room to grow in.

water temp about average for a tropical fish around 70

it is hard to convince them that we want babies. mom needs to think things are perfect for her little ones, just remember mysteries have there own mind. you can't force them just encourage them.

  • thanx for the advice :D, i went out and bought a 10 gallon and i got a chunk of wood, but i was wondering, would they need live plants or can i get away with fake ones?

  • honestly they don't really care one way or the other.

if you to put ornaments in make sure if they have holes that they are big enough so they don't get stuck.

  • so cute
