  • it looks delicious.

  • its not animal abuse if you eat it (:

  • did he just throw the skin away? WASTE! bunny skin is soft, although, you would have to buy all the chemicals to preserve it ;u;

  • I had ten to do. Prior to watching this one used to take me a whole morning! Looking forward to my next brood. Male is at it as I write! Many thanks Mark.

  • "Doesn't want his tail anymore. In the bin."

Not sure he had the capability of wanting anything after his head was just cleavered off let alone the fact he was dead.

Also, the "Crush the pelvis" line, I'm using it in the intro for my podcast.

  • Thank you for this excellent video - exactly what I wanted to know without any poncing about. 10/10

  • That was slightly horrifying

  • @1234567890kdog Its dead.

  • A great video thanks ...

  • boil a rabbit for 2 hours??? this must be an English chef.

Boil a rabbit for two hours then deep fry it. Serve it with Malt vinegar with some chips and you wont even be able to taste it. Cherrio.

  • Thank you very much, this was very helpful. I'll be looking for more videos of Mark Gilchrist.

  • peter? :( i thought mom and dad sold u to a good family :( nooo...

  • "he doesnt want his tail anymore"

  • it will bounce off the table, LOL. I believe you, rabbit meat is pretty hard if not cooked properly

  • best way to clean a rabbit ever i found on youtube. fast and easy.

  • great video

  • ... I was looking up ways to BATHE a rabbit ... NOT SKIN IT!! Youtube WHY DO YOU DO THIS!?! D=

  • @LuluMedly I know what you mean. Thanks to Rebecca Black, I now hate Friday's. What else is YouTube going to ruin for me. Ice cream? Pizza?

  • Top class demo, Chef! Thanks a lot.

  • Brilliant advice! I've been breeding rabbits for 6 years and always had trouble skinning them, so thanks for that.

  • And remember: there is alway more than one way to skin a rabbit!

  • Superb! thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly.

If I shot my rabbits, would I then void the bladder, then gut, then store on ice, if it were going to be a long night.

I am in Australia so temps here often reach 40 degrees c, would that turn the meat bad if not chilled?

    Thanks,

  • cool and simple!

  • I want to eat that thing!

  • great video

  • its like taking off its shirt

  • Very good. Thanks. I'm going to try that.

  • THUMPER!!!!!!!

  • realy good :)

  • sh*t.. im searching for taking care of a rabbit but this is that i see.. rabbits are cute and sweet and i have a pet rabbit..! +(

  • 1:11

    OH MY $#@%@^

    1:21 BAWWWWWWWWWWWWW@!@!rnau8th y8agt RASR

  • EEEEEEWWW! Post-mortem rabbit-poo! => 1:51

  • @MMountainEscape If you don't want to keep the blood, then simply hanging it after skinning/gutting should take care of the blood. I think thats the reason he said to salt it too, so it can help draw out any blood that was left behind.

  • I've seen my aunt skinning rabbits but she skins the animal before cutting into it. That way you won't find any fur inside. And she always starts with the lower feet without cutting the head off. The brain tastes nice... You can try marinating the meat in olive oil with some spices. It makes for a awesome launch the next day.

  • @MMountainEscape Hang it by its hind legs and cut its throat. If you're going to gut it yourself(ie. you caught the rabbit), then hng it by its back legs, cut its throat and whilst you're gutting it the blood will drain out. Unless you want to keep the blood for that stew which actually uses the blood(forgot its name), then you should probably stick a container under it :P

  • You say to "cover with olive oil". Approximately how much olive oil per rabbit? Thanks and great videos!

  • Legs *BOOM*, Head *BOOM**BOOM*, front legs *BOOM**BOOM*

  • You can roast rabbit but it has a tendency to dry out, I would soak it in a salt/sugar/water solution for atleast 24 hours. As well as baste (sp?) the meat while its cooking. Frying works quite well and is very tasty :)

  • @gman0345 I'e found braising the rabbit whole makes it come out tender. Basically a roasting dish, put your rabbit and some veges in the bottom, salt + pepper, then cover tightly in foil and cook for 2-3 hours. Basically steams it and comes out like it did in the video(meat falling off the bone).

Wonder if you could make a burger patty with the rabbit after you picked it from the bones, since you said frying works well for it...hmm. Guess I need to get a rabbit now.

  • I love his accent. He sounds like a record producer.

  • "NIce shot meat clever!"

  • im not going to have a good night sleep tonight

  • Thumbs up if your mouth watered.

  • wabbit season

  • @Teamvalkyrietv DUCK SEASON

  • @Naishell1 WABBIT SEASON!

  • @firstlifethendeath2 DUCK SEASON!

  • Hi, a way i learned here in Australia by an old rabbiter, to skin, make a small incision in the skin along the back, and basically peel it open....., dont have to worry about the fine bits like doing it this way

  • I have three rabbits (two adults and one baby) eating all my veg, this way it looks like my wheat didn't die in vain :)

  • A sexy man teaching how to prepare good, fresh rabbit? Yay!

  • @RisenAthena

hey, if you as an average teenage girl is even thinking about trying this, then you are definetly emotionally (and probably phisically) stronger than most girls. :)

  • I feel manlier just by watching this video.

  • this was extremely helpful. I'm just some random 17 year old girl who plans on going out into her yard and shooting a rabbit to see if I have the balls to pull thumper's guts out and eat him. my mom would never forgive me if she found out I killed an animal....

  • @weezythebeezy312 If you're going to shoot something you might aswell eat it.

  • PETA

    People Easting Tasty Animals

  • @roboticsboy pfft no way PETA mean People Eating Tasty Animals! hahaha

  • After boil, is the meat ok to deepfreeze for a few months, and will it still be good and tasty when i heat it up again? Thanks for the video by the way

  • I wish I had a sharp knife and a cleaver.

I had to do it with a dull knife and a chisel lol. My kitchen is terribly equiped

  • so at 2:25 you just cut the shit sack and everything?

  • @mickieftw lol I just realized he brushed poo off the table! xD

  • Great video thank you

  • I died laughing when the legs went flying x)

  • Bin!

  • the rabbit didn't take his shit before you shot him

  • wicked video!!! i gutted and skin and cooked my rabbit perfectly first time. thanks!

  • look out bugs-fucking bunny!!!!!!

  • Wow what a great way to loose all the flavour of the meat... Boiling it seriously!! why?

  • This was an amazing video for instructional purposes. I shot a rabbit in my back yard and had no idea how to skin it. After watching this video I had complete success in skinning and preparing the meat. Albeit I did mutilate the pelt which was tossed out, but the meat will be eaten tonight. Thank you very much Mr. Gilchrist!

  • yooooooo THE LEGS EASY OFF PART IS SO FUNNY

  • In the tv shows they put it like it's hard but it look easy so didn't my self but a lil duffernt way and I did it good

  • 1:21 Ok no offfense but that was kinda sad...

  • @DutchPs3Gamers wuss....

  • thats how i learned to skin my first rabbit

  • Everything u did to that rabbit im going to do the same

  • i put the rabbit in boiling watter with salt does it matter??

  • Great video, thanks.

  • will this kill the rabbit?

  • @TurtleTunfungul naaa it was just a paid actor like Rodger, Buggs or bigwig, the rabbit gets str8 back up after they finish filming, don’t you worry :)

  • @TurtleTunfungul Ideally you would kill the rabbit before you skin it.

  • Haha. Oh my god.

  • mark what recipe would you recomend after all this preperation.ive done this and now im just wondering what next?

  • Mhmm, was just wondering what happens if you hapenn to have shot the rabbit in the guts... Do you just throw him away?

  • I hear that rabbit, and especially rabbit is very "gamey." Is this true? I do not like lamb or venison at all, but I love chicken and fish...does this mean that there is little chance of me liking rabbit at all? Im thinking of trying it but would like to cook at home first to taste before I ever get it in a restaurant in front of people.

  • i'm no hunter and unless there was no other option I couldn't kill anything but a fish. But i recently came to believe that hunting to feed yourself is okay. I dont understand how people could waste it though as it died so you could eat.

  • You just peeled a rabbit...

  • Holy shit your good

  • I am having a BBQ this weekend and I am about to purchase 5 rabbits. I am so glad this video was created. I would not have known about the soaking in salt water. I am going to pressure cook the rabbits though b/c two hours of boiling is too long.

    Thanks,

  • This is a great video! It’s well made, well executed and very informative. You’ve shown just how simple the process is. Coming from New York City to South Carolina, this is a whole new experience for me. Oh, by the way, I’m with PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals). Laus Deo

  • Great vid, I didnt know that we tip about the bladder, and cutting the legs, feet & tail at that time, seems to make it alot handier.

    Thanks

  • omg i cried when he started cutting

  • Is it worth putting anything in the boiling water to add flavour? I.e veggies?

  • nice job man

  • 2:25 lol, its a poopy

  • @vyieort That is False.

  • @vyieort What are you even talking about?

  • that one guy had the thing done in 51 seconds. learn from him. It was brutal. :(

  • Instead of boiling the rabbit in a pot could you use a slow cooker/crock pot and cook it all day?

  • @friken0frank2 it would of been dead overnight or longer... LOL

although he says gut straight away !

  • Excellent! Brillaint presentation of expert information. Thank you for producing such an informative, well crafted video about this. You gave me exactly the information I was looking for.

  • your rabbits feet aren't so lucky now are they thumper lol

  • I see too many people who try to hunt with a 50 dollar gun and end up hitting a rabbit in the ass or guts only to have it get away and suffer and die later. Spend the extra 50 or so bucks and get a decent gun with a scope if your going to hunt but there is no need to spend thousand on a effing pellet gun

  • If you do not shoot air rifles, do not comment on air rifles. If you say the word 'gamo' i know you are a NOOB!!!!

Fact: you need 3 ft/lbs to the side of a rabbits skull to kill it. A .22lr powder burning rifle gives to 250!!! way too much. A rabbit isnt a tank. my target rifle which is sub 12ft/lbs is still doing 3.5ft/lbs at 100yards. At 65 you will not find the pellet

  • @timfoye1 looks like someone takes airguns a little too seriously...for the average joe who is most likely going to go to big 5 and buy a pellet gun why would you get anything below 1000fps that can shoot supersonic with a pba round? the accuracy is drastically improved and for everyone who isnt an expert markman such as yourself has a much better chance of hitting the head.

  • You do not need 1000ft/sec. Just dont use a 400ft/sec pistol using wadcutters. A std chinese $50 springer rifle traveling at 650ft/sec will enter and exit cleanly out to 35yards. My target springer kills out to my comfort zone 65yards max and it only does 800ft/sec. I kill hares as well. Rabbits are like butter - you wont find pellets inside them

  • "we can bounce this off a table" HAHAHA

  • @gootch420 You need to make sure your using a pellet gun that shoots at least 1000fps that way the pellet will exit the rabbit and you wont have to dig it out of the meat. Lead pellets are ok but I would recommend getting the gamo pba pellets that are made of alloy.

  • @friken0frank2 the reason a rabbit bleeds is because when the heart beats, it forces the blood out of the wound, because it is dead, the blood is absorbed into the organs

  • Excellent video, Mark. Thanks. Many have commented that they skin then gut. You gut then skin. Is this a preferred method of yours? Why?

  • @bufuninja

i shoot about 10,000 rabbits a year and all of my methods are based on high volumes of rabbits shot, all the other people only ever shoot one so it doesn't make any differance to them

  • @friken0frank2 because the heart pumps blood out of the body and if your dead the heart stops itll drip bloods but it wont be flinging blood out of its guts

  • Thx

  • Every other video I've watched shows the rabbit beings skinned before gutting, probably just preference.

  • thank you

  • thanks sooooooooo much

  • lmfao did yall c how his legs flew when he chopped his goof ass

  • lmfao this is soo horible. @ 11 seconds thur 14 seconds the rabiits legs were falling and spereading. soo wrong :(

  • Mark, Fantastic video. The best training on the subject matter I have ever seen. I've been hunting rabbits in California for over 40 years and I thought I was good at dressing a rabbit; however, your method is superior. My method of pulling the skin off first sometimes gets messy when the stomach lining accidentally tears and I end up with torn intestines (worst smelling of all wild game).

  • looks like chicken, i would totally eat that

  • U guys r all shooting rabits...

But unless ur using a pellet gun won't it ruin the rabbit?

I found it much eayser to snare my rabbits. But thanks so much for the vid

  • @Redfox0987654321 Aim for and shoot the head with a .17HMR to and including .22WMR sized rifle, or sometimes pistol. Anything smaller like a pellet or BB gun does not have enough impact energy to do the job and will maim, not usually kill. Then, you'd have to risk losing him in the brush or finish him mercifully. Anything larger and if you miss and get a body shot and you'd have too much energy transmitted to the body and you'll have an exploding rabbit and not much left on which to dine. dj

  • i did this yesterday and today, the rabbit tasted great. thanks!

  • Why would someone flag this? Its a very well done, non humane, educational video.

  • @pchelp3

Don't you mean humane? Non-humane would make it bad lol

  • is it safe to eat any wild rabbit (cottontail)? or are there specific areas in the U.S. where they have parasites or somthing?

  • @gootch420 - if you check your states wildlife website, there will be information on there that will help you to know whether there are certain things to worry about or not. generally, if you cook rabbit meat thoroughly, there's nothin to worry about

  • @gootch420 cottontail is great to eat. I live in california and we hunt and eat them all the time and this is the best way to prepare them. I usually poach then bread and fry them or make a stew.

  • @flyinryanmtb so if I shot one with a pellet gun could I still eat it after removing the lead pellet

  • @Nukedpermanately

That doesn't have anything to do with it being cleaned properly, cleaning an animal is removing everything you don't eat from and preserving the meat...All I was saying is that there were a few parts most remove still left on when he was done

  • Holy shit this man makes it seem really easy o.o I could never do it without gloves, feeling squishy guts under my finger nails doesn't sound pleasant

  • Why is this on youtube? lol

  • I'm so surprised no one has flagged this haha

  • @Final900 Why would it? The rabbit is dead.

  • Great Video

  • So at 2:35, all that meat is good to eat once you have properly cooked it?

  • @TheLastGuyStanding00

It is not what most consider "100% cleaned"

  • @jgoodz420 But if I was in say a survival situation, I could slice it up and cook it, and be relatively safe from parasites or disease?

  • @TheLastGuyStanding00

More or less. You always have to check the rabbits eyes for white cloudiness and their liver for white spots, these are signs of myxomatosis...

You also want to fully remove the abdominal wall and everything from the guts, make sure you pull all that crap out, and your good to go...

  • wtf ong he just took off the skin like nothing:o

  • Make sure you roll the rabbit in the few pellets (shit) ejected as this man did.

  • @friken0frank2 he slit the throat first, drained it

  • couldn't you just cook it like a hamburger?

  • Im gona sub.. been hunting my whole life killed and prepped quite a few deer, Last year i had a 75 yard shot at a rabbit with an airgun that i had sighted in at 50.. couldve easily taken it but didnt know how exactly to skin/gut and cook it

This summer its gona be a different story lol

  • Shouldn't you be wearing gloves?

  • I need to stick mine in the freezer, do i soak it in salt water first

  • I think he slit the rabbits throat.... my uncle is a butcher and he slits the dead animals throat then cuts it up

  • Try doing about 100 in a day. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun! I don't really care for the way he skinned and gutted the rabbit. I hang mine, then cut around all 4 feet, make a slit on the inside of the thigh up to the foot on both sides, then work my hands in under the skin peeling the hide around the legs then yank it all off in one go like he did. When its hanging around the rabbits head, I cut the head off. Then Slit the belly and the guts fall out due to gravity. Was off poop and fur, then freeze or cook.

  • @TheAngryvikingman

bet they are rough to eat

  • oh yeah, like that.. xD

  • . . . . just like that!

  • 2:29 shit of rabbit

  • Could you skin and gut a Squirrel the same way? It seems like a very easy to do this....

  • Great, I have 6 of these buggers to deal with.

  • i have watched dozens of vids on rabbit gutting and skinning and this is the best by far. thanks for loading it mark.

  • great vid

    you make it look easy!!!

  • since i don't wanna cut off it wanker i'll just but half its body and toss the lower part away :p

  • Oh, and 666 likes! I love it!!

  • Awesome, but you reall should be wearing gloves...

  • 1:24 NICE SHOT, MEAT CLEAVER!!

  • Are those little brown pebble things you know what?

  • @wexlerchick Yup!
