That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! Love the propaganda bits with the police commander shaking the dudes hand. In reality they'd all be lined up and shot without a trial, then the 603 would be used as a police vehicle.
It's too bad Tatra was never sold in North America. It would've made for interesting competition for Volkswagen.
Could someone tell me please the name of this city, and/or the name of the area where this film was shot? Very beautiful roads, mountains, and old town, i have a tour of middle-europe in mind and i would very-very like to visit this place someday. I just hope the comrades havent destroyed this old city back then:(
Jéžišmarja, mladej Babka:-) skoro jsem ho nepoznal. Co toje za video????? to ej úžasný! :-) 50 let starý, 603 to metelí po jakési prastaré dálnici, pak přes pole, přes potok, pak to prasí skrz úzké uličky Krumlova...co to je??? :-) to je tak bizarní.
must say that Checs always knew how to make a car before many others, so I don.t wonder why Germans wanted their industry in ww2 and imagine there were not Russians in the past, guess Škoda and Tatra would be better than Mercedes or VW today.
I've got the t2 (one of the last ones produced). I bought it after the fall from some guy close to bratislava for about 1500 euro. But it is quite dangerous to drive with them - there is always something broken lol (like the brakes recently). Not to forget the opposite H of the gear stick!! It happens sometimes that I try to drive off with the fourth gear. Quite strange this. But back to the "always broken tatra" - no wonder that they placed an extra start button in the engine room!
Wow, so you must be either a politician or a high ranked or rich company owner (or somebody from your family)...
However, I do think that you can't compare the Tatra t1 with the t2 - it's two worlds.
The tatra t1 is more colourful and friendly, whereas the t2 (at least the model that I have) looks more "fierce" and "business" orientated. But nevertheless they are really wonderful cars. P.s. A tatra 87 is being used as a requisite in the brand new movie "spirit"!!!!
Neither nor. My father was never a communist and also did not care about politic. But he was the very first private owner of a Tatra 603 in the entire Ex-Czechoslovakia.
That is one of the most insane things I've ever seen. beyond the fact that it is a beautiful car ... it's a communist ad from a communist country ... showing people doing insane things; the mind reels.
Two things bother me- why would it pay to advertise a car to what was a captive market?
secondly, these were only ever available to party officials and police- so for any joe public who ever got a ride in one, it sure wouldnt have been a happy journey for them!
I believe this was from the "it seemed like a good idea at the time" department. Twenty-seven crashed Tatras later (and 11 pedestrians run over), the moral of the story is clear: buy a new Tatra, drive it like a maniac, and the babes will shake your hand, and the police will present you with a "happy journey" placard.
Maybe, but I'm happy they made the film anyway. It's a beautiful time-document, and it sometimes seems like a scene from an exiting car-chase movie of the sixties. Like an 'Italian Job' for Tatra's. But you're right, nowadays carmakers can't do a movie like this.
Run over 11 pedestrians because we're making a commercial... That's too much even for communist Czechoslovakia. Besides, that time with huge color cameras it would take hours to prepare a single shot and several dozens of crew members. Trust me, they closed the street before they roll...
Yes you are right about central planning, its sucks, im glad we sent comunist where they belong to 18years ago. But Tatra was only for goverment and big red heads. He was maybe allowed to wait for some 4cylinder Skoda or so. This movie was taken in time when in Czechoslovakia was in mood for some changes, i guess thats why its so optimistic, but then in 1968 came Russian army to stop that.
I love Tatra. For me the most representative was the 603. I have been in a 613 taxi :-))))

My 603-1 is outside green with white roof. The interiour is also green/white (factory original). The car is since 1965 in family property.

You misunderstood the ending of part2 completely! The narrator says:
"We are witness of Tatra 603 car trials.
The car is safely under control in every situation.
Excellent suspension is guarantee of comfortable ride even on crappy surface. Air-cooled engine works great in all climatic conditions.
The Tatra 603 is extremely reliable and stable even under the hardest trial and service conditions.
Yes, there nothing else to do than congratulate to Tatra 603's characteristics."
