• I agree with 2taggs2 she didn't race the best and when she did she broke down so you can't put her as the best. And MAN O WAR is the best ever not scretariat. And they took the name big red from man o war. Man o war was the first ever horse to be called big red and was the ever

  • ruffian was queen of the track but secratariate was king they would be cute together if they were born the same years

  • I can't consider Ruffian one of the best ever - simply because she never ran against colts. Yes. She was probably the best filly ever... but to put her in the company of Secretariat is ludicrous. She never ran the Derby, Preakness, or Belmont - let alone win one or all of them. It's a shame what happened to her, but you can't put her in the "greatest" ever class.

  • she didint die just because her back legs got hurt, she died because she was racing foolish pleasure and she was running to fast and broke her canon!whitch is her ankle, have you seen the movie ruffian?she had a heart of a champion and when her front leg got broke they lade her down and she was moving her front legs, like she was still runing,no matter how bad that pain hurt her she was still runing like a champion but they dident want her to suffer any move and she was put down

  • @Mrsna4067 Ruffian hit the starting gate w/her left shoulder puttin all her weight on her right leg. thats what made her break down not cuz she was running fast

  • did nanyone hear about secertarit? hes the best he was so cute when all he did is run in the feild but one his lammatidist was so bad they couldent put him in the pasture they where afraid he would run after that they put him down :(

  • thsi was great! i LOVE ruffian! i keep hearing about this barbaro movie can anybody tell me is it on youtube?

  • ohmygod this made me cry!

she is the greatest female racehorse ever to set four hooves on a race track! she is the TRUE ONE AND ONLY QUEEN!

zenyatta, rachel and all them are princesses next to ruffian!

    LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!

  • saddest movie ive ever seen i remeber crying 4 hours i couldent stop i wish i couldove seen her when she was alive i rember waching that movie when i was little if she fineshed the race she would of beat him

  • Its just sad

  • I read that Frank Whiteley sued to stop the movie from being shown on TV. That he never talked to Bill Nack.

  • does anyone know where i can buy the movie?

  • Um. I thought that was a real preview. That was AMAZING.

  • i just saw the movie this morning... it broke my heart.. she is a wonderfulll filly god bless her soul

  • Ruffian is Queen of the track. Yes i know she's dead. but she deserves the title after all she had went through. . .

Carly your really good with this kind of stuff. awesome work.

  • Thanks LittleCloudSc!

  • k u did a really amzing job of the video and so did she she had played her part in life yet i still wish she was alive and had won that race and not have died its almost like i was in the stands waiting for her to cross the finsh line frist

  • i cant imagine what a race between her and barbaro would have been like... i would pay millions to be there! i miss her soooo much! barbaro, too!

  • me too one more time see her!

  • Or Barbaro, Big Brown, And Ruffian :)

  • she never raced sec.

  • What this filly did and what she was capable of, other thoroughbreds can only dream of.

  • Was this on TV or did you make this?

  • I made this

  • Yeh well guess what its very good no doubt. Great job.

  • i love ruffian she was the best filly in the world! and i miss her so much!

    r.i.p ruffian!

  • How ironic that this movie premiered the same day a filly won the Belmont for the first time in 102 years. Gives ya chills.

  • You ran likie lightning till the end, my sweet girl.

  • Great description for her! All I can say is that she had heart and LOVED to run. I could probably say a lot more about her but that'd take me years. She's just perfect in every way.

  • I got the DVD and I like it very much though they should have paid much more attention to the details: you can see sometimes that the horse playing Ruffian was a male (!), and as far as I know, she was rather "Squeaky's horse" than Whiteley's. I am also not totally satisfied with the guy playing Jacinto Vasquez.

  • OMG where did you get the DVD from? I WANT IT!!! How much was it?

  • Hey HorsePsycho, I ordered it while I'd been in the USA, through a bookshop only for $25.

I see that you live in Australia - well, ask in big bookshops if they could order ir or not..

I live in Hungary which is a bit far from you :), but if I could send you a copy as a collect package (to charge forward, you know) I would try.

  • that would be SUPERCOOL! I wouldn't know how to thank you. Of course I'd pay you back.....!

  • I'll never forget that awful day watching it, I unashamedly cried like a baby when she broke down, as I did when the great Barbaro broke down a couple of years ago. You can clearly see in other videos that she was spooked by the birds flying up in front of her! RIP sweet Ruffian.

  • this was absolutly wonderful.

and i did watch that broadcast. i recorded it too, every time i watch it i cry my eyes out. its just so horriable how such a wonderful filly had to go like that. and at the end of the movie how they show her eyes close as she is being put down is just so sad.

    :[

  • I cried during Seabiscuit and I am going to cry during this. I also cried watching the Barbaro movie. ='( I cant stand seeing such beautiful animals get hurt....

  • wow. this was so good!

    i cried

  • i cried my eyes out<3

  • Our Black Beauty! We will never forget you beautiful Ruffian! ♥ ♥

  • i own this movie and i cried. during the match race when she shatters her leg it was really graffic and disturbed me they made it look to real but it really gets people thinking just how painful it was it is so sad

  • I got it on DVD but I had to watch the making of before I watched the Great Match Race.

  • omigod, i recorded that and watched it at like, 3 o clok. When ruffian broke her leg, i screamed like really loud and my parents got mad at me!

  • I can't believe I actually WATCHED IT! ON TIME TOO! I never do that kind of stuff lol. It was a good movie. I cried almost like a baby. I can't stand seeing horses in pain or watch them die, quick or slow.

  • You have some of the best videos I've ever seen! <3

  • Ruffian........that movie turned me into a sobbing mess. I don't think any sound ever got to me as much as that snap that broke her leg.... Goodbye, lovely one, play and run free where no one will ever hurt you again!

  • i loved the movie! it was great!

  • in my opinion, i think the book was much better than the movie... but the movie was really good too!

  • She was SO perfect...

  • You really need to read the books !!!!!!

  • i have this movie and its really good

  • she was an amazzazing and she met a tradgic end she didn't have to prove anything everyone new she would of beat foolish pleasure by a lotttttt!!!!!!!! to you ruffian

  • i saw the movie too i cryed at the end too it was soooo sad!

  • Oh! I saw that movie! I loved it! R.I.P. Ruffian! You where the best! I had to stop the movie at one point though...

  • that was really good carly 5 stars!

  • i watched the movie and i was seriously just crieing histericly. i mean she was so great and she tried so hard and for something that horrible to happen to her its just so sad. when they showed her leg and then the guy who said "as soon as they throw some speed at her she breaks down" GOD! i hate people like that.

    R.I.P Ruffian

  • yes there are people like that...just awful....I have the Newsweek article (still) where the father ( Moody Jolley) of Foolish Pleasure's trainer is quoted (commenting gracelessly in the inner's circle) "We threw a fast half at the horse and she just unbuckleded"

  • My english is little bad so I didn't understand that qoute.... Can some explane me?

    Great video.... Great filly.... :-(

  • I think he is saying that when foolish pleasure picked up the speed, ruffian couldnt handle it. and that is why she broke down.

    Thats pretty horrible to say..

  • wat one

  • i saw the movie. It was soo good i luved it. But it did make me cry when the accident happened. Shes the best ever. I think she could of won against Foolish Pleasure.

  • You know I have my calender marked for this. :)

  • Wonderful video. I love Ruffian and I've watched every video involving her on youtube, but I'm going to miss the movie with no way to tape it. So depressed. :(

  • She was the fastest filly alive...and I think she could've won the Derby that year....I was 9 and remember that match race very well....Beautiful work, Carly...just beautiful...BTW, I hear Disney is going to do a film about Secretariat...should be interesting..

  • Beautifully done. Just such a tragedy what happened to this wonderful mare.

  • She was never a mare, always a filly.

    And thank you!

  • When you put it like that (if it's possible) it's even more tragic. God Bless her.
