  • Very interesting.

What's the reason of changing locomotive here? Scheduled maintenance in depot or brigade changing?

  • did anybody notice that the first engine was a phase 4?

  • when was this?! nice vid

  • @trainz675 This was October 2004.

  • wow! i thought the 3 phase units were gone then!

  • Seems to be that in the dual mode set that coulped to the train, all 3 of those locomotives had a different scheme.

  • nice vid

  • now the albany to boston train has a sleeper attached...

  • cool vid. you never really do get to see that old locomotive in action anymore.

  • i live i guilderland no wear that is?? very cool

  • like the paint scheme on the 2nd set of locos

  • Second set? I think that's the new Acela paint scheme.

  • nope thats phase v. Phase v came out before acela express came out. They have phase v everywhere

  • Does the Boston half and New York half get joined together all the time or is it just on certain days?

  • They don't join the two trains together anymore. The Boston train is now a separate train that runs between Boston and Albany and connects to the New York section of the train at Albany. The passengers switch trains at Albany and board the New York train that runs through to Chicago.

  • What is that spitting noise some kind of air clicker?

  • Most likley the engineer is clearing the water and moisture from the air Lines. you can hear it alot when a Amtraks pull into stations and are idleing. All locomotives do it.

  • Do they have video similar to this anywhere?

  • Can you tell me the sequence of events in the video? I had a hard time following it, although I loved the scene.

  • The two loco's that brought the train in from Boston are uncoupled and leave. Loco 714 was sat on opposite track but was not part of the movement. Next, three fresh loco's back on and couple up. Loco 708 arrived on an opposite platform, again not part of the move. The train in the distance is the portion of the train from New York. This and the Boston half were joined together (not shown) and the train left for Chicago.

  • nice clip..n power change...that reminds me of Philly > Broadway Lmtd Run..Electric-Diesel...E60 NYC/Phl..2AmJett Phl/Chi..the 7 series for NYC Pool are contact shoe equipped>MNRR...

  • Dis the Dual mode engine in the Lake Shore Limited consists went all the way to chicago?

  • @iPodiToons all trains coming to/from Albany heading to NY use a P32 electric. it has a third rail shoe. diesels arent allowed in Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal so they have to switch engines in Albany. trains have been doing it for 70yrs

  • @howardkevinm diesels are allowed in Penn station and GCT ,there just strictly prohibited to be in diesel mode.. and a P32AC-DM is Dual Mode it can run on 3rd rail power, and DIesel power..
