@wolflover8765 Your piano background is a good start, but you would need to learn different finger techniques. They will have to be different because Organ doesn't have a sustain pedal, rather a pedal board. I would suggest starting out with manual (hand keyboard) techniques along with the principles of registration, and when you feel you are comfortable or ready, you can move onto the foot pedals. Hope this helps!

I'd say, dispite of some light mistakes, this young man is a great player. Respecting the feeling of the piece. The instrument is wonderfull, the assistant (the father?), very usefull.
Gert has amazed me for years! He learned to read music less than a year before he recorded this. Through the wonders of the internet, Gert is now a "friend". From everything I have seen, he is a genuinely nice young man.
Why 33 people would "dislike" a young boy playing at this level is beyond me!

Jij hoeft zeker niet op alle punten hetzelfde te denken als Zwart. Het orgel is van 1742, dus dat is tijdens de barok-periode gebouwd. Het wil natuurlijk niet zeggen dat je er niet romantisch op kunt registreren, dat is een ander verhaal, en ook persoonlijk gebonden. Dat Gert een vakorganist is, heb je mij zeker niet horen zeggen, dus mij geen woorden in de mond leggen die ik niet gezegd heb. Jij geeft een cijfer aan vakorganisten. bijv. W. van Twillert, of niet? daar heb ik het over
W.H. Zwart heeft zelf tijdens een radio-interview gezegd dat het orgel 'puur barok' is. Dus het is geen romantisch orgel. Ik zou daarom ook niet weten waarom je dit niet op dat orgel kunt spelen.
Dat Zwart jouw tot het orgel heeft gebracht, is fijn, maar daarom hoef je dan niet vakorganisten te gaan beoordelen met een cijfer, voor wat ze spelen. Ze komen per slot van rekening van het conservatorium, daar hebben ze meer cijfers gehaald dan jij en ik bij elkaar.
Beste WHZwart, of wie je ook bent. Ten eerste vind ik het een beetje raar dat je onder deze naam hier op YT actief bent, maar goed dat is mijn mening. Ten tweede vind ik jouw opmerkingen nergens op slaan. Je gaat op YT vakorganisten beoordelen met een cijfer. This is one of the most fluid and organic (forgive the pun) versions I've heard of this, so many performances of it are just too stacatto that the piece loses it's mojo. And most of those are adults too, kudos to this lad.

@robertgift The stops from the pedal are situated almost on the floor. Thats the reason that those stops are very loud on the organconsole, but in the church, it will be nice!! There is also a Trumpet 8' from the great manual selected. It's recorded with a small camcorder....maybe thats the reason that you didn't hear the trumpet.

I dont like this guy much, because he has what I think very arrogant way of playing , and he makes many errors, I think this masterpiece should upload only here when it is perfectly mastered and in particular on the choice of register is clear. BTW, that sounds like a quite old, tracker-action instrument. Excellent articulation and even the clatter from the mechanism adds a certain charm to the music. The stops, however, are inconveniently placed. The organist would have to have arms like a gorilla's to reach some of them. LoL!
@BillyRosinet To the stop-layout: This is a typical dutch Layout which is often found. That kind of layout wont be found on any other instrument! The tradition of dutch organs calls for that. But you are totally right. I played on an organ like that, too long time ago and you need an extra person at most of the pieces!
I don't know the Dutch(?) language but I have no trouble discerning a talented musician. This young fellow is, I believe, destined for greatness. Well played!

BRAVO ! je connais bien les passages délicats et je vois que ce grand orgue à transmission mécanique est classé mais que les touches sont dures et le toucher inégal et surtout ingrat pour tes doigts très jeunes de l'époque, mais que ta virtuosité, ta vivacité, ta générosité, ta mémoire, ta précision, ton interprétation, tes qualités sont extrèmement flagrandes. Dieu t'a bénit comme nous tous et qu'il te bénisse chaque jour.

@electrostatic1 Of course he plays from memory, that's not extraordinary. That said, this isn't a very difficult piece to play. I play for about half a year now and Toccata is cake. Absolutely love the piece though. <3
Ik heb je wel wat foutjes horen maken maar wel een mooie uitvoering. Ik hoop zelf ook ooit op een echte orgel te mogen spelen. :(

@Otley actually, I can play this better and I'm not a star =) He plays this piece of music well, but there's still much to be inproved in technique before it's even close to "star" =)

@luumumunkki You probably don't realize that Gert had been taking lessons for less than a year when he made this video. He learned this piece BEFORE he could read music.

WOW, Gert! Indrukwekkend. Ik heb al heel wat uitvoeringen van (amateur)organisten gehoord van dit imposante muziekstuk, maar die van jou maakt grote indruk om me. Niet alleen je leeftijd (hoe oud was je bij deze opname?) als ook dat je volgens mij uit je hoofd speelde! Klasse. En dat het dan niet foutloos gaat, is bijzaak. Zeker als ik lees dat je dit 'even tussendoor' speelde, zonder bijzondere voorbereidingen. Ga zo door! Groet, Gerard.

gaat de goede kant,
toch blijf ik het moeilijk vinden om andere te zien spelen op het orgel waar mijn opa jaren op heeft gespeeld en ik blijf het eerlijk gezegd ook het orgel van mijn opa noemen, ik durf te wedden dat je met een goede leraar ver kan komen! blijven oevenen zou ik zeggen! succes! en wellicht kom ik dan later naar 1 van je orgelconcerten wie weet op dit prachtige hinz orgel in kampen!
