I share you sentiments. I enjoy watching again and again these dancers, but they are dressed like skate boarders. The dress distracts from the dance. Black for males and dresses, as you mention, or sleek slacks emphasize line and movement of the woman. Generally at the milongas I attend the women dress nicely, but the younger guys are a mess.

These guys are my altime favorite tango dancers, they have a nice open style lovely connection and a youthful exuberance when they dance.

Personally I do not care much what people where. If there is tango you can feel it :-)
