My guess, drunky looks in the rear view mirror and sees lights go on behind him and doesn't pay attention that he is heading right toward the back of a semi. So it's like, "Aww craaaaaaa-BAM!"
@archon808 wrong, the cop saw the driver closing in on the slow moving semi too fast so he turned on his lights hoping to get him to slow down and pull over but the driver was drunk and slow to react so he crashed anyway.
@TheJohnnysplits to get a long, undisputable tape full of evidence. Cases can be dismissed with no evidence; or found not guilty due to ambiguous evidence.
@TheJohnnysplits - It sounds like you're the dumbass, actually. Hmmm. Let's think about that for a minute... Have you considered that perhaps the cop first saw the car moving just slightly strangely and decided to watch for a few seconds for something worth stopping someone for? Or do you actually prefer it when cops stop everyone at the slightest deviation from a perfect line down the lane? I bet you'd be whining about cops again. They stopped me for nothing! Waa waa!
@BayviewFinch It was obvious by :55 that there was a problem. Who knows how long the cop was following that wasn't shown in the clip. I drive for a living and have seen many a drunk asshole on the road so they're very easy to spot. Stopping people who can't hold their line? No, otherwise you would have 90% of drivers who can't drive and talk on the phone at the same time all pulled over. Whine about cops? Sure... always there when you don't want them, and nowhere to be found when you need them.
@TheJohnnysplits you forgot too mention they have to observe in most states a continuous follow sometimes its a mile and sometimes its a quarter of a mile and with dash cam evidence it is an airtight case that this was a clean arrest for DWI don't whine that the cop is at fault for distracting the driver
@pastorgeorgem Yeah that's understandable, but I feel like he still should've pulled the drunk over earlier because that guy was capable of doing anything. What if he stepped on it and slammed right into the back of the semi? Or he could've completely taken that guy out in the left lane. The safety of the drunk and any other drivers should take priority over police protocol.
@TheJohnnysplits lol, ya, he followed him for OVER A FULL MINUTE! HOLY CRAP!! That is totally crazy. I would have known before I even saw the car, "ya, that guys drunk."
It seems like the unsteady acceleration and the ping ponging between lines was a giveaway that this person was under the influence of something. Alcohol, drugs, not enough sleep...
When I see people doing this on the road I get their license plate number and call them in. Better safe than sorry. My uncle was killed by a drunk driver.
First and foremost this guy should NOT have been behind the wheel.........BUT ...... these cops should have pulled him over a lot sooner than they did.......this accident could have been averted........ by waiting until the last second to turn on their flashing lights , it removed what little mental ability this idiot had left....... He was obviously looking in the rearview mirror at the Pretty Flashing Lights !!!!!
@guitarman815 they needed to first establish probable cause, and hard evidence on video of him swerving or breaking traffic laws to have a strong case, if not all he'll get is a slap on the hand.
They don't really need probable cause to pull him over and check to see if he's okay to drive. Usually just talking to him would establish whether or not he's drunk. You need probable cause to arrest him or issue a citation, and failing a sobriety test would certainly do that. I think guitarman815 had it right. This could have been avoided if they had at least checked. Although if he passed sobriety, he might continue driving and cause a worse accident.
@langlebl Well in this case they needed the probable cause to initiate the traffic stop. In order to get to the talking portion that you mention to determine whether or not hes lethargic or not. There is two probable causes needed, one to initiate the stop to make a determination, and one to initiate the arrest once it has been determined that he is drunk. . .
CRST, Cedar Rapids Slow Transportation. This was when the truck speed limit in Ohio was 55, too. I don't see why the dipshit troopers didn't pull him over before he ran into someone. Unbelievable.
I'm a trucker and I'm sorry I think that's funny. Not that he's drunk, but just the way he popped into the side of the trailer. Better that than taking out some other innocent motorist. And the truck driver has an amusing story to tell.
Be safe everybody, you don't want to be the star of your own dumbass youtube movie.....

The cop caused the accident. The cop turned on his lights, and distracted the driver at the worst possible moment
