If he had a Gulf credit card, he could have charged a fill-up of No-Nox and taken her to the Holiday Inn (where Gulf cards were once honored) and....never mind.
NOBODY I ever knew used Gulf Gasoline, it was terrible. One guy I knew said he bought about 2 gallons, like this guy did, because there was no other station. He said his engine was knocking and pinging within a mile.
@Srd1126 My Grandfather worked for Gulf oil back in the 70's.. he was Chief Engineer on the Universe Kuwait.. when he was home (the few times he was) he would always fuel up at Gulf stations.. I asked him if that was because the gas was better, he told me Gulf gasoline was the same gasoline all companies sold and he did it out of company loyalty.. "back in the day" things may have been different but back in the day was well before the 70's.. additives are a different story though..
"That was your choice. You spent the money that way and you don't have it for dates. And that's exactly why I ended up loaning you money ..."
The boy's date is a bit motherly.
We know the foot pedal set him back $10. The unbruised, white Keds, probably double that. Wonder how The Big Spender made out when the embargo kicked in the following year.
I had the same BIG FOOTIE gas pedal on my 1969 Mustang Fastback with a matching smaller left footie for the (on floor) dimmer switch!

Cheap gas *and* full service? This has to be science fiction.

@Srd1126 well your friend is a fool.. all brands of gas stations get their gas from the same tank at the local refinery..

@MrMeanderthal now, yes. But back in the day the systems were less integrated between oil companies. And the additives were more different as well.
