Nice mod to the Jackob's ladder Its interesting that you can adjust it to have one side climb more often than the other by having a slightly shorter distance thus less air to heat up making it faster.
wow, this is something out of the frankinstein videos Lol,but rly helpfull and insightfull as well as interesting feedback to ppl who are interested in this stuff, great vid,i loved it =)
As far as I know. Jacob's Ladders are typically high current, while Tesla Coils are high voltage. High voltage is much much safer than high current. I have heard from many sources that a milliamp can kill. So if you attempt this demo do it with care.
ho ok, i am using 2 MOTs in serie now that way the load is spread between them and i still get my 2kv. what can i do with the microwave oven diode and capasitor? maybe a voltige dubbler?
Depending on the type, yeah. There are some really good designs online for using a series of diodes and capacitors to create a pretty smokin' voltage multiplier.
The heat element (whether toaster or whatever) will basically do the same thing as the light bulb. Act as a resistor. I like the lightbulb since it's not likely to set fire to anything I don't mean to set fire to.
Sounds like you might be putting more current through it than it's made to handle. You can put a resistor in the circuit (like a lightbulb or something), maybe even two (one each in series to both sides of the primary and secondary) to limit how many amps go into it. Alternatively, find a variac.
Depending on HOW hot, you can either just put a fan on the MOT to dissipate heat, or buy some transformer oil to put the MOT in. The fan should be enough.
Thanks for the comment...and might I say that you're apparently a commenting MACHINE! :)
It is nice to do it in the house, but occasionally I have to move project outside or into my garage...Some things can be done in the house...some can be prone to burning down the house (the doll death and "will it burn" videos).
Must remember to MOT my car!

i read about putting a kettel or toaster element in serie with the primary winding can ths work?

no i mean realy hot like in 8 seconds or so, and it start smoking, i have tried 2 MOT's a big one and small one but they both get dam hot! :(

I build a small jacobs ladder with a singal MOT but the darn MOT(mictowave oven transformer)gers hot real fast,Help?
