Obama was never going to veto it to protect civil rights. Shockingly, his stated reason for threatening to veto was he thought the law would "restrict" his executive branch powers, which he already interprets to include indefinite detention of us ctiizens captured anywhere, w/o trial, lawyer, etc. He is really even sicker than this law.

And yes, I am also against the payroll tax holiday - a back room door to privatize all social programs.  Obama will NOT veto Defense bill, and now Wyden is coming out in favor of privatizing Medicare along side Ryan. Wyden voted against the Defense Authorization Act, in exchange for gutting domestic programs which actually help people. It is infuriating.

@TheCaptainSlappy Far as I know, currently. The house overwhelmingly passed a similiar bill in June. HR 540? House and Senate Committes met behind closed doors to reconcile differences and Obama already agreed to sign. Initial Veto threat was due to NOT ENOUGH executive power and nothing to do with Constitutionality. in fact he was the one who insisted on the citizen arrest and dissapear clause, and just lies and posturing. BTW - Thomas is not current.
