Reminds me of the original Liz Reed recorded at Fillmore with long, beautiful solos by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts. Liz Reed is my favorite Allman brothers piece along with Jessica.

It is really cool to see Trey rising up to play with some amazing musicians. I'm not saying Trey can slack off during a regular Phish show, but, sitting in with the likes of Oteil, Derek and Warren really brought out the best in Trey. Very sick solo.

Starting at 0:03 Trey states a very heavy melodic motif. If you notice, he develops that single motif until about 1:10. That kind of gradual, continous motif development takes a lot of skill and discipline, especially when you're sitting in as guest. Being unfamiliar with the guys you're playing with can be an obstacle to playing unified, flowing music. Clearly this isn't the case with Trey. The other guys in the band are into where he's taking things (Oteil at 0:48, Derek and Warren throughout)

@codyr222 I agree, but Trey is not unfamiliar with the musicians here. Oteil, he played with back when I saw Phish open (yes open) for Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit in (1992?). And the Allmans played "unified, flowing music" as you describe, plenty. I don't disagree though with your other assertions, though.
