  • Man Alt Country...Just some people likin' country, real singing, real playing..welcome to the South with a whole American CowPunkin' Edge...

  • Is it necessary that every Son Volt or Wilco video becomes a pissing match of who's better. They are totally different bands. It's like comparing hockey and basketball. Everyone knows hockey is better. Jay shoots and scores.

  • @headlessindian so much win!

  • Great tune, great band!

  • The better half of Uncle Tupelo!

  • @ThelynxAZ you forgot wilco

Volt may have "Trace," but Wilco has "A Ghost is Born," "The Whole Love," and "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" goin' for them.

  • @Malkmusianful Trace is Trace. big part of my life in the '90s. but AGiB is a whole other animal. let's be honest: Hell is Chrome is better than anything Farrar's ever done

  • one of the best alternative folk country bands around

  • "BillCosbysHair"

    What a fantastic username

  • I would give Wilco as much credit as I would give Son Volt in this genre.

  • I was HUGE into the grunge movement of the 90s, still am. But I've always adored this song and find it an important ingredient of my nostalgia for that time period.

  • This clip features the two things I remember most fondly from the 90's. Alt country and Ra-Ra-Ra-Ra-Rage!

  • love the son volt. thank god for the son volt! talpajam 11 ....you cant compare an american to a canadian!??? this is true rock ...american.

  • This group never sold it's soul!!! Play the damm music !!! V.

  • thank you for the post

  • awesome song brings on flashbacks

  • Sky cracks open, walls falling to the floor

Just as well to keep it, a guessing game in store

You're with me now, will be again, All other points in between

And the cruel, cruel mornings, Have turned to days of swim or sink

If living right is easy, what goes wrong, You're causing it to drown

Didn't want to turn that way, You're causing it to drown

Doesn't make a difference now, You're causing it to drown

Silence knows, can't drown a heart

  • i was 17 when this came out omg i cant believe its 2011 i miss this type of music

  • I could listen to Farrar singing the phone book.

  • I saw Son Volt at the Pageant on my birthday. It was the first rock concert I had ever been to and it was one of the best nights of my life.

  • thank you!! this song is soooooooooooooo good!!! Its stuck in my head for 5 days allready...

  • I wish we could bring Progressive Rock back like this again. When everyone was all over Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, and all the other "Alternative" bands polluting our airwaves, this was what was helping to shape my tastes when I was a young buck. Now at 33, I find Sun Volt's and other Progressive artists' lyrics and music are still pure works of art. Thank you so much for posting this. It's really been a great trip down memory lane, but this song still stands the test of time.

  • @TheStreetShaman Nirvana had two good albums and a live set, bro.

    Can't ignore them.

Also, Son Volt's only godly album is "Trace." It is the purest distillation of their sound - Uncle Tupelo if Uncle Tupelo grew big balls.

  • My dad got this stuck in my head.

Needless to say, it's a good song.

  • Great however Son Volt on Austin City Limits is probably a better version ..

  • MORE COWBELL!!!

  • One of the greatest guitar licks of all time. Love this song, I'm dancin' right now!!!

  • What a JAM. Don't think there's abetter tune around...............

  • Thanks so much for posting!! This song is a classic...

  • been looking for this video EVERYWHERE! THANKS!

  • Sorry near the end the synch up slips. Its a VCR tape from 1995.Its heritage listed. If ya know this song, you know whats good for ya!

  • @BillCosbysHair hell yeah ..i am recently finding out whats good for me ,,,but this song has been one of my faves since before any of my children were born

  • Thanks,great Band

  • not quite Neil Young, not quite Hank Williams, not quite Flying Burrito Bros...

the song that launched a genre.

  • @talpajam I hear the burrito bros everywhere now you commented this, watching true blood it was on the radio,"shes a devil in disguise.".A well consructed comment, very rare on utube, haha.
