The 'guy' on the right is the director of the Hong Kong hit film 'Yip Man'. He was just trying to experience Chi Sau sparring from a Yip Man descendent.
Chi Sau itself is a sensitivity drill, Wing Chun practicianers train like that but we don't fight like that.... you'll never fight someone in the street with Chi Sau... that's just plain stupid.
The purpose of the drill is same as any other - to develop muscle memory - such that you know how to react as soon as contact is made.
According to Yip Chun, chi sau could be used in combat. He said that in any combat, the distance between yourself and the enemy eventually will decrease. And chi sau techniques could be applied on close combat
I thought the one in the black shirt was teaching the other guy on the right. The one on the right will someday catch up with his teacher, looks like he's a diligent learner!
no, it works... i've seen those vids you're talking about and they don't have any sense in the realm of decent martial artists. gracies seemed to have some urgency to demonstrate effectiveness of jj humiliating others and that's a disgrace. ok, see some vids of sanshou practitioner cung le. you may see the effectiveness of kung fu there. i'm not saying it's better than jj, i'm saying that it acutally works as any other ma when you practice with discipline.
that was wilson yip a hk director just having fun. he doesnt know martial arts but becos he made a wing chun film with action star donnie yen, hes just learning some stuff. no big deal
If a clueless person like this young guy can deal with a Wing Chun see fu (master). What good is Wing Chun? They would end up grabbing each other and rolling on the floor.

Guys just accept the reality, OLD STYE KUNG FU! thats it! today MMA is diff, science study etc. old timer chinese dont even know the earth is rounded lol come to think of it... japanese has advance martial arts thats why kung fu has develop into shanshou to combat karate.
To those UFC, american whatever, please appreciate the USMC does incorporate wing chun in some of their close combat training.
I am not saying anything is the strongest, but wing chun is far from bullshit.
I personally like martial arts that helps you to defeat stronger and larger opponents. By no means am I going to be the strongest on earth, so things that win by size and strength is not my cup of tea.

i never seen real kungfu fight real FIGHTS, know why? because they scared... Chinese KUNG FU basically is crap and its only for movies, that is why china army develop shanshou or xanda, bec they realize all these fancy crap is not for real battle. lets accept the fact, the KUNG FU time is past, people now is smart, they wont buy these kungfu crap.
well said, Bruce Lee took the best from martial arts..in respect to what worked and blended them..he considered wing chun too classical and rigid for real combat..though some of its principles and techniques he still retained..though not as much as these WC wannabees would like to think..
One good wing chun punch to the neck and its over...oh wait, you can't hit that cause they will DIE in the ring....better ban that.....ok wing chun kick to the knee joint! oh shit, thats banned too? you serious, I can't cripple them? Darn how can i fight if i'm not allowed to hit death spots.....oh will i guess i'll let you sport guys wack off to the death. I'll be over here practicing wing chun
@ssj7gokurpg i know this is a year later but, anyone can punch to the throat, and anyone can kick the knee. if you were really good, you wouldn't have to resort to lethal force in order to control and win a fight. its the practitioner not the style, that makes a fight.
@ssj7gokurpg lol..yea..better do that...wing chun is a self defence martial arts anyways...best not to fight at all....run away is smartest probably..lol
Ufc is not real fighting yet, you cant attack the vital organs. The chubby man in black is a bit on the stiff side concerning good standard of chi sau, you have to keep your forearms relax in order to be sensitive, to be quick and to avoid your opponent feeling and moving you. This is only my humble opinion, try not to sound offensive.
question: how does wing chun ppl usually guard against kicks if its not high enough to block with their hands? like if they're doing chi sau, and then one of em' suddenly kicks
again from my humble opinion.Wing chun guys block leg with their stand(front leg)ie:chi geuk or use kick eg Tan kick to block kicks. They excel fighting in a close range where kicks are hard to be used.During Chi sau(chi sau is only a form of drill to sharpen your reflexes and sensation, not realitic fighting.Wing chun train you to hit(90% of defensive moves involve a simultaneous offense)To block kick during chi sau drill, you can drag ur opponent's upper limb down to minimize the power of kicks
It's hard to describe in words, and depends on the kick. If the kick is thrown before a bridge is made (i.e. before arm to arm contact), a wing chun guy can check or jam with his own kick or leg technique, or simply evade with footwork. If a kick is attempted from close range, the wing chun practioner might simply try break his opponent's balance with a push, a pull, or a punch, thus negating the kick's power You rarely see kicks in chi sao because they're easy to nullify at that range.
if u master chi sao, it's very difficult for u to get defeated. cos u will know exactly what to do during an engagement. Immobilization, counter, deflection, everything. Hail wing chun!!!
Try using that UFC bullshit in a many-to-one actual street fight. While you're busy grappling to submit one guy, you'll get your balls ripped off by the other guys.
Wing chun is practical for many-to-one fights, with the fast tactile response and strikes. Wing chun is suitable for getting oneself out of trouble so that you can create an opening to escape trouble.
UFC bullshit is just sport, for TV and fanboys. Try using that UFC shit against a group of rabble-rousers in a bar.
I normally don't reply/argue with people in favor of UFC. However, UFC is not bullshit fan boy stuff. Do you think UFC fighters are going to fight on the street with the same rules as the ring? Just like a WC artist is not going to fight the same way as if they were in a chi sao match etc. The fact is the UFC is Jujitsu based and Jujitsu is good at ground and stand up. I know what your thinking. My Wing Chun experience is over 15 years.
if ppl are gonna judge WC the way they usually do then do it unbiased. You should be saying..stuff like.. why am i on the ground? a read fight is blah blah.
Basically the rather chubby guy was doing this with his eyes closed. In order to demonstrate how to "feel" the gaps in his opponents movements. You can't just LOOK for the flaws in form, you have to feel it in your contacts. One of the features of Wing Chun.
