The Daleks are interesting looking space soldiers, though they are not as invincible as they make themselves to be. I have seen Daleks get destroyed by Nitro 9.
You could also defeat them by throwing a blanket over them so they can't see properly, and they start to panic and go crazy . Then beat the shit out of them .
You can get Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD on DVD frm Forbidden Planet or online. My mate says you can now download it, but I wouldn't know much about that. I've got it on VHS and DVD. And I've got the originals too! Great stuff for a DW enthusiast.
A beautiful film. I really liked the way the design of the Dalek saucers subtly and very cleverly references the “flying hub-caps” in the original. A far better design than the versions in the CGI extra on the DVD. Now if only someone could come up with a design that matches Spencer Chapman’s wonderful studio sets.
The Dalek Invasion is probably Terry Nation's most memorable script. The bit I remember from when I first saw it when it came out on VHS, is the sequence where Dortmun gets out of his wheelchair which then runs away from him and he stands his ground and starts throwing his grenades at the Daleks but they are innefective and the Daleks turn around and exterminate him,
Not sure if I've already commented on this but I adore this video, really wish it was part of the special features on the DVD. Great work - As always.
Wow. It's too bad they didn't have the budget to do the kind of ships you've animated. The 'flying hubcaps' they had in the original makes me laugh every time I see it.
Really well done...bravo old chap! Has the dvd arm of the beeb seen these? You should re-do all the spfx on the orginal series! Great job! At the very least these shots should earn you a spot on the restoration team!
The original TV version of The Dalek Invasion of Earth has a probable date of 2167 based on dialogue from The Daleks' Master Plan. The Invasion having started 10 years earlier. The film version was set in 2150 AD.
also in a cd of dr who of which i cant remember the name...(oops i seem to have lost it) it has a story about the invasion of earth starting 10 years earlier...i must be the #1 dr who fan =)
@LordRammasus yes acutely because the daleks invaded earth then and many years later during episode 3 of day of the daleks one of them said we have invaded earth again so there are more invasions
Good historically accurate documentary. Nice to see CGI adressing real issues for a change, instead of depicting fantasy material such as a world free of the dalek threat.
This is fantastic, would've been an amazing extra on the DVD! Although I reckon the end should have faded to the Roboman taking a swandive into the Thames

True, but this sort of thing adds IMHO immensely to the older stories. You always have the option on the DVD's to watch the original effects etc. You could have special editions with added scenes like this in addition to the effects as an option as well.
Mate. I reccomend you sign up to 2Entertain. They could use a man of your talents to reconstruct all lost Doctor Who episodes, like the 10th Planet with the cybermen.
Not quite. The 'Saucer Commander' was painted partially black in order to create an extra leader class of Dalek different to the black Dalek which appears later. Also, some fans persist on repeating the myth that this Dalek was red and silver, but there is no evidence to support this - so it was black and silver until can be proven otherwise.
I love the Dalek Invasion of the Earth! You've really captured how the initial invasion would have played out. Hmm...imagine what a good New Who double-parter that would make.
You did this a year ago and I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to see it -- beautifully done and a real tribute to the classic era of the show. And while a quick find/search shows me that others have pointed it out, "celebrating 160 years" banner is fantastic and brought a huge smile to face. Best of all, it felt simultaneously like a modern fanboy wink yet also just like the tone of the Hartnell era (it reminds me of the 2164 office calendar the Doctor and Ian find in Episode 1). Great work!
Very, very well done! I don't give out five stars willy-nilly either. And 'shot' in a way which would fit in with the style of the broadcast episode. George Lucas take note ;)
<_< Sorry did I hear your right? ISLAMIC TERRIOSM. That's sorta racist there a lots of terrorists it's only because the USA is a christian country that they're are given that label. Also it's only 2% of muslims that are loyal to alkeida. It's also unlikely they'd be the reason the world ended.
thats absolutely awesome. I hope that one day missing Dalek stories such as The Dalek Master Plan and Evil of the Daleks are remade in animation like they did with The Invasion. There is something about Black and White Daleks that makes them so much better.
Oh, that was simply FANTASTIC!! And very chilling. I remember the original story from my childhood and it was a classic. I loved the inclusion of the New Wembley Stadium and the 160 Years banner, very clever. All seemed lost until a mysterious old man with long white hair arrived with his three companions. Brilliant stuff.

Well done I must agree, my only quibble is that the Dalek saucers could look a bit more like the ones from the series (i.e. 'The Parting of the Ways'). Have you seen the optional CGI effects on 'the Dalek Invasion of Earth Dvd'? Those new cgi saucers look pretty similar to the ones in the 'Parting of the Ways'.
Well if you want a fannish explaination, you could just say that the saucers in this clip are their full blown planetary invasion warships. While the ones in the episode were just cargo ships for hauling equipment and dealing with small scale human uprisings. And why should they look alike? There was about 200,000 yers between 'Invasion', and 'Parting'. Obviously Daleks ships have gone through a few design changes.
True enough, but with Daleks being Time-Travellers and all its hard to accurately gauge their time-line... Have you seen the Saucers for the new 'Stolen Earth'? They look slightly different, as I assume Davros has made some modifications to their design... Either way I am psyched! Davros Rules!
Another fantastic piece... and that's coming from someone who hates CG!
The problem with epic Doctor Who stories (and definitely TV nowadays) is the lack of establishing shots from around the world. You have adressed this problem magnificently.
This should really be on the Invasion of Earth DVD as a bonus feature.
Astounding CGI.You should work on the DVDs or even the series itself this is amazing. My favourite bit was the view high above London. Your wonderfull shots actually help the story to feel much more scary and threatening than the original episodes actually were. Absolute genius.
Excellent work Mind Robber. You captured the descriptions in the episodes very well. It could be better if you included some fighting. Like poeple off-screen shooting at the Daleks, and the Daleks returning fire.
The budget didn't stretch to going round the world filming capital cities... (although I did take the Eiffel Tower photo myself)... ;-)
If I'd used film/video of real places then aside from the change to just being an invasion of my town, I'd have had to remove all the people and add the structural damage and the alpha channels frame-by-frame. Just logically impossible I'm afraid.
I meant to use some stock clips. You wouldn't need to paint people out frame by frame. You'd use a shot of the street and then put a roto shape around the people who walk into shot. Underneath this you'd push a copy of the clip to a later point where the person wasn't there and keyframe the roto shape to follow that person. Then just repeat for everyone else. The damage buildings wouldn't just be laid over the top in one go, not frame by frame.
I hear what you're saying but the trouble with that is that to effectively remove the people or add the damage, the shots would have had to be static anyway. So aside from maybe a few trees moving here and there, there's not much different between a static photo and a locked-off moving plate.
Plus there'd be all the associated problems with grading the Dalek shots to match the quality of the film/video source, which means compositing the Daleks separately which is more time consuming, etc.
subtly, the saucers make their approach. even the explosions on the planets surface seem strangly muted. the planets inhabitants are doomed. the saucers portholes slide open to reveal their diabolical crew, the new masters of Earth....
you are so chuffin' creative 'n' clever 'n'... sh*t
Funnily enough, it was making this video which started me wondering when the TARDIS did first make a landing noise, which led me to write that article. So I fully researched it and then deliberately did it wrong. The irony!
The Daleks are interesting looking space soldiers, though they are not as invincible as they make themselves to be. I have seen Daleks get destroyed by Nitro 9.
You could also defeat them by throwing a blanket over them so they can't see properly, and they start to panic and go crazy . Then beat the shit out of them .

also the very end under the bridge is nice...thats what i was going to do next u bugger

It's really good, but I think you should of filmed some background plates rather then using stills.

The damage buildings *would* just be laid over the top in one go, not frame by frame.

You could projection map onto simple geometry, like they did for the London sky WWII scene in "The Empty Child"

Fantastic work there, completely in tune with the atmosphere of the original and sci-fi of the era.

subtly, the saucers make their approach. even the explosions on the planets surface seem strangly muted. the planets inhabitants are doomed. the saucers portholes slide open to reveal their diabolical crew, the new masters of Earth....
you are so chuffin' creative 'n' clever 'n'... sh*t

Fantastic, exept I notcied somthing about the TARDIS landng.
1) In the original the side windows were (stupidly) tilted open and
B) The TARDIS always used to land silently untill The powerful enemy. I got that info from your sight so you have no excuses :D Amazing vid tho
TheOnComingStorm121 4 years ago
LOL.
Funnily enough, it was making this video which started me wondering when the TARDIS did first make a landing noise, which led me to write that article. So I fully researched it and then deliberately did it wrong. The irony!

I know, I dunno what worse, you writing it, OR ME READING IT
