At the end of AC Nexus, Jack-O (accidentally?) releases those autonomous red MTs called Unknowns. They destroy the surface world & leave everything in ruins, including the Corporations. The Corporations then merge together to form The Alliance (which is what you see before the CG starts). As for the Ravens, they've either:
- joined The Alliance (Evangel joins them & leads their military)
- joined Vertex, led by Jack-O
- formed their own private armies as independent warlords
