  • What type of jazz is this? I'm looking to start a course in jazz but there seem to be so many different, commercial jazz, showjazz, jazz funk, modern jazz..

I like this style, so what type of jazz would you say it is?

  • lol, I would call this Modern. Maybe modern jazz then? It's good that you are doing research, observe a few classes or attend the studio's recital if it's coming up to get a good idea of what you want. And though JJboy1992's comment was rude, he has a point- so many studio's offer "Jazz" when in reality it's thinly disguised hip hop or whatnot. My studio did that, and it's annoying whenever I sub because I teach JAZZ (broadway/modern) and the students expect hip hop

  • @nevroth I really don't see what the big deal is in trying to categorize this group's style. The name says it all people OFFJAZZ...in other words its clearly jazz, but with a slightly different twist, as the French tend to do...and this ISN'T a studio...its an actual COMPANY...does anyone here have their own professional company that they direct??? Doubtful.. There are SO MANY different variations of jazz its kinda insane. But if you have any training you can see the basis in their vids.

  • I tried to categorize it because I was replying to someone looking for this specific style to study at a studio. If they just went to any studio with the broad class of "Jazz," it's doubtful they'd get this group's style to study. I'm not complaining that it's misnamed, and I love the style. Your implication that is is a company & can specialize in whatever style/fusion they want is spot on. I just warned the OP to research what class they might be taking because it might not be what they want.

  • what song is this?

  • fabulouss x

  • Beautiful

  • you need more energy in your moves

  • Hmm. Well, let's see, I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in dance and have been teaching it for over 20 years. I am not going to get tied up in names and titles of dance forms. Good dance is good dance, and I thought they did this quite well.

  • @geezloueeze absolutely I agree!

  • Cirque Du Soleil inspired my high school dance team, our school is known for its good jazz dancers and unique performances, we have been wining many of our competitions every year, putting in a lot of effort and style has given us the advantage to win. Youtube search: SANGER HIGH LIPSYNC 2009 ,comment thank you

  • i like dancing and sing but aint that a bit crap to watch sooooooooooooooooo boring no music or anythink by the way no affence to wat i said

  • sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice to see real jazz dance again , i hate that hip hop form of choreography it looks really unprofesional , you guys are simply super thank you

    much love

  • Love Itt :)

  • Wow! You guys are great!

Would you be interested in dancing in dance anywhere on March 26th, 2010?

  • dancing where??

  • anywhere you will be on March 26th at noon in San Francisco, 3pm NY and so on around the world.

you choose where, what & with whoever you want...

  • This is true to the original concept of what Jazz was historically. Take a dance history course or see Chita Rivera's show when she does the history of jazz segment.

  • This is recorded music. What is it? Please tell me, if you know.

    Thank you.

  • Very very nice.... I just wished that they could have given a little more in terms of expression and emotion... Otherwise, very nice..

  • que buena correografia... esto es jazz contemporaneo, verdad???

  • Jazz is many things, it's lyrical, it's soulful, it's fast, flashy, technical, funky, contemporary..all of that falls uner the jazz umbrella..you can't separate them..even Luigi says it's the internal motivation that makes something jazz dance, not the use of particular trick steps or the use of only certain music. This video is a jazz dance combo...just might not be what you think of as jazz if your definition of the style is narrow. Just read the history....

  • Thank you for saying this...totally agree

  • I agree jazz is universal great dance to see and I encourage everyone to at least try it :)

  • Jazz is not like other styles that have very clear cut definitions of what qualifies them to be that style. Read your jazz dance history, from the African roots through swing dances through Hollywood musicals then into the 1940s when ballet technique was introduced to it and on into each decade after that when the style "jazz" was influenced by the music and social scenes of that time.

  • very much enjoyed your choreography! Nice work.

  • this is not jazz this is another shit dance

  • @5546singerlover

while this dance style is different, i found it to be enjoyable. If you as a viewer think other wise thats fine, but unless its constructive criticism please dont type it.

  • wooooooooow great hey can u teach this one slowly

  • it's more modern/comtemporary. jazz is simple, hard hitting movement

  • wow, I want to do this dance. thrashy and beautiful. offjazz choreography is amazing.

  • It does not mean because you have a more sophisticated choreographic language that it isnt jazz. Jazz can be company work, cabaret, show dance, tit's and ass f, hip-hopJack Cole said "Jazz is urban folk" witch gives a very wide view of it.. You seem to put the jazz in the commercial field only. It has much more resources then that. So, If its not jazz what is it then? (Certainly not contemporary!)

  • like jazz contemporary has many braches coming off it aswell. This would be more lyrical. I didnt mean to make my comment a direct attack on you or the choreographer. Just, in MY view it isnt jazz at all. And im not putting it in a commercial field either. Given my background, i would never in gods name call something like this a jazz dance, it MAY have elements but not enough to have it as a labelled jazz dance.

  • actually as a trained dancer and choreographer and who is now working on his masters in dance, I find it hard to belive that you do not consider this Jazz. unless you were expecting to see something thats stock jazz i think thats a problem. Jazz consists of many forms, movement styles. Do you still work? when was the last time you took a class...the 1960's? to JJboy1992

  • Im sorry to let you down but i wasnt alive to take a jive lesosn in the 60's. But i am alive now and working towards a diploma in dance. I personally find it hard to belive for you to regard this as jazz. I do recognise their are different styles of jazz but being a different movement to jazz i see this as soft lyrical or contemporary piece. I'm not here to start up controversy and arguements. I'm here to express my opinion on the video. That's what comments are for "Sexy" actor....

  • I agree, this wasn't the sort of dance i was looking for!, i just thought this was weird! :(

  • i was born in the 90's....

In regards to ur comment on stock jazz, yes there are many forms of jazz and not just one but in all seriousness this isnt jazz. If you were to get someone off the street and ask them what they thought this was, the majority (being 100%) would say this is not jazz. I have yet to see ANY videos on here of offjazz that are ACTUALLY JAZZ. False advertising aye?

  • @Offjazz I couldn't agree more! Jazz as a genre of art (considering music too) is a progressive type of genre,so it really CAN be almost everything, and THIS certainly IS jazz!

  • @Offjazz LOL this is quite contemporary. I think you are the one that isn't broad-minded. And what makes you think I only see jazz in a commerical style? I complete agree that jazz has many different styles, but this does not constitute as Jazz. Get over it dude.

  • @JJboy1992 LOL You sure do have some good jokes. This is so obviously jazz it hurts to even see that this established professional company and school even responded to your ignorance regardingwhat jazz is. I guess you think Jazz is that video in your favorites "It's raining men"? Hahahaha. You are a joke. Please stop. I mean have you ever seen early Fosse before? This in the same vein and its a smooth jazz style that is barely alive thanks to these talented performers. Get lost.

  • @gumbionics I stand by my educated opinion.

  • @JJboy1992 Oh and what education would that be? Trolling the internet? It definitely seems that way according to the comments left on your channel page. If you had any education worth the money you would go ahead and defend your opinion. How about you tell me what jazz IS instead of what jazz isn't. I find this whole notion of you knowing what jazz is kind of funny too as an Aussie. Perhaps you are confused or perhaps that is what I will choose to believe until you clarify.

  • @gumbionics I think 16 years of dancing is enough knowledge to know what I'm talking about. If this were anything to do with jazz, I'd call it absurdist jazz.

  • @JJboy1992 I think you are clearly confusing technique training with education. It's different. You have not once backed up your claims with any intelligence whatsoever. Knowing how to dance and know the history and genres of dance are different. I wish you luck in the future. I'm done with reading your uneducated opinion. Good day.

  • @gumbionics don't even answer to people like this! You know what you know and if you wanna know my opinion you are absolutely right! nad he/she should really just get lost :)

  • You seem to be a very square-minded guy!

  • Replaying to JJboy1992

  • im quite rounded actually. I just have a different set of paradigms to you.

  • alie

  • Comment removed

  • @JJboy1992 right so, lets see you dance? What sort of person are you??!!? What gives you the right to just say 'this isn't jazz' you probably don't even know what jazz IS, you just like the attention. What made you write that-blackmail?

  • @TattyTeddy0507 Calm ya farm. It's only contemporary lol

  • Great one!

    Simon

  • I liked :44 to the end (: very nice!

  • there is alot of arm flailing in this vid.

  • that doens't look THAT hard

  • we got teached that and its well hard..dont look it but it is
