YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY! An entire collection of X-20 vids. Agree with most of your text post as well. I for one have no idea why NASA is stuffing around with the CEV rather than making a 21st century X-20 to get from 0 to 200 miles up (the ISS) and something COMPLETELY different for the odd shot to the moon. The moon mission could be launched unmanned, then loaded in orbit at the ISS. You could fly the TLI stage and lander/return on a non man rated heavy lifter, which is already available.

BTW, the Boeing RASV was another nifty, metallic-skinned spaceplane concept...

The X-20 is one of my favorite projects that never flew. I may build a flying scale model one day.
