Nice to see from inside the glider. My Brother in Law is now stationed there and he had me and my son come out to the runway to watch him take another out for a check ride this past week. He is an IP and was flying B-1s before that. Great to see and even better to see from the glider.
ok im 13 and i'm planning on going here I was born here and my father taught cadets here so i've been around it when i was little all the time I either wanna fly commercial or anything that gets me in the air i definitely want to do this glider program and parachutes can anyone please give me tips how to get here I gonna do ROTC in high school
@bamrocks74 score a 650 minimum on all 3 portions of your SAT, have AP classes and pass with an A. Have a sport like that is a must, you need to be physically fit otherwise you will suffer here. best bet is to train for these requirements, about 60 pushups in 2m, 10 pull ups, 80 sit ups, long jump forward 7', and be able to run a lap around the track in under 55 seconds. also you have to do that in a row in this order: pull ups, standing long jump, sit ups, push ups, and then the lap.
If anyone younger than 18 saw this video and wants an easy chance to get to do this, join the Civil Air Patrol. I got to fly in two gliders and I'm only 13. Aside from flying, CAP is a lot of fun.
The only thing that was different from this flight and mine was that I was towed by a PA-25 instead of a piper cub, and I flew the Schweitzer 2-33 'Falcon'
@eroby371 Bare in mind that CAP is also "fickle", while eroby makes his squadron sound active and cool, the ones in my local area do little to nothing, and, beyond a box to check on my academy application, unfortunately I have found little to gain from or give to it. It depends where you are, but atleast the orientation flights are basically guranteed. I've only done a few small cessnas.
You are right for the most part. They want to see high school students who are involved in several activities. This shows they can handle having their time spread thin over the course of four years. However, grades are still very important.
@MrAcademy12 I'll be applying for admission next year. I plan to major in Astrology and Harmonic Convergence, and minor in Yoga. The Rocky Mountains seem an excellent place to find my Oneness with the Universe and live in True Communion with Mother Earth.
The USAF Academy would be an excellent power vortex for gaining True Cosmic Awareness. I dream of playing the sitar or the jew's harp in the Air Force Academy Band. Please throw your energy out Brother Moon and Sister Sky for me.
@MonkeyPieshaha - grades are very important - above a 3.5 is good. SAT scores are important too, can make or break you. Helps to be in a leadership position, like captain of a sports team. Also, get a job to show that you have good time-management skills. And learn how to interview well, b/c you'll need to go before a panel to get a congessional nomination
@MonkeyPieshaha ah man, its not easy. contact my page and i'll tell you in full length, but you want to keep as close to a 4.0 as possible, go above if possible, they say you should be in the top 10% of your class, but in some schools like mine, you're competing with smart alecs and its not easy considering some people base their lives on school. should do a lot of community service, take a lot of sports take a lot of clubs and prove you have leadership skills.
