Anyone can make conventional art, anyone can make abstract art. But to make good art, regardless of type, is what takes talent and skill. I too prefer art of a more conventional type but I don't discard abstract art as something that's junk to its nature. It's an equal artform.
it doesn't matter what -you- like and not just anyone can make good art , abstract or otherwise. Good art does require a certain amount of talent, design, color sense, intellect.
that having been said...What I really want to know is how that artist got the sculpture back out of the river.
I think what they insinuate in this ad is that it's still in the river. The sculpture in this ad is the version 2.0 sculpture. He threw the first one into the river but then he started another one.
abstract art is still bullshit. write a song or a poem or paint something recognizable if you feel the need share your artistic expression of emotion with non retarded people
I think people elevate certain kinds of art, abstract or not, above the mere idea of craft.
You're obviously not very familiar with more sophisticated philosophical notions of how humans tend to represent and recreate the empirical world they find them, but that doesn't really seem to justify your ignorance.
Rather, your hostility seems symptomatic of resentment of the success and creativity of others.
Now go watch the film "Basquiat" and start enjoying life.
You're misunderstood. If you look at art history, abstraction started appearing precisely because artists wanted to convey universal expression and a sense of a truer reality that can resonate to all of people and not just the beorgois elites who dictated artistic taste based on classical past. The effect is the contrary in that abstract art has become a byword of elitist art, but still let's appreciate the amount of toil that artists went through to make abstraction in art an acceptable thing.
also, I have watched my kid could paint that, and the documentary is not a critique of abstract art but rather the money hungry art market and its load of rich bollocks. Gauguin, Cezanne and the early avante garde of abstract art worked to precisely go away from the rich whoring industry that art has become after industrialization in France. The Bolsheviks employed abstract artists to create propoganda that would appeal to the masses, although it backfired.
i always liked this commercial. makes me smile every time i see it :)

As an audioguide producer, I can tell you, it's successful! He's not passively listening, he's immersed in a dialogue with the piece...
