  • -_- wow, just wow-_-

  • What is the genetic significance of the stickleback? Peter Gabriel mentions it in a song about reproduction (that's how I got here).

  • @ewetyube Phil and Andrew could explain this much better than I could, but I think they have become an important model genetic organism mostly because of a rapid evolutionary radiation that they underwent after the last ice-age in diverse environments, including both fresh and saltwater. This can let you study how separated populations adapt to similar environmental changes, for example. Do they evolve through the same genetic mechanisms or different ones?

  • Why, oh why, can't I see my favorite video on my iPhone YouTube app anymore???? :-( What happened, Nathaniel? I tried to share it with new people but it doesn't show up in the phone app search anymore, just the web browser. I can has fix? :-)

  • I hope that you make more of these. I think that this is the best parody I've seen, even better than Bad Project. I teach HS and community college bio and my students LOVE these. Please keep it up!

  • LOL. No Actinopterygii for dinner tonight, guys!

  • "My genotype is wild"

    Love this!!

  • LMFAO! <3

  • LOVED IT! It was very funny! And sticklebacks are great fish! :)

  • Does anyone else think that the darker-haired guy looks a bit like Colin Farrell?! Niiiiiiice!!

  • Wow!!!! is amazing :D The best part is when a dog appears between the trees! (min2, sec 23) jejejeje!!! I wanna do one in my lab now! best regards since Mexico!

  • @prispaga Muchas gracias desde Berkeley! Me preguntaba si otra gente se fijaba el perrito entre los árboles... No sabemos de quién era el perro, pero se hizo estrella de YouTube.

  • The Bio department of Clark University likes this. :)

  • Haha! @ people who noticed the sandals in the lab...I think most of us lab rats noticed that...but also fashionistas noticed the socks in the Birkenstocks fashion statement ;-)

  • @dvanbeckum: I also showed this video to the environmental science classes where I was the guest speaker. My seminar was on aquatic science. Since I studied life history strategies of Everglades fish for my thesis work, the stickelback video seemed apropos as a fun way to get the students engaged. They loved it. MCB Follies FTW!

  • Are you guys from Craig Miller's lab? lol

  • @atherinomorpha Yes, Phil and Andrew are in the Miller Lab! (I'm in the Drubin/Barnes Lab.)

  • lol from 3rd floor LSA!

  • OMG open toe shoes in a science lab 1 word REBLE TROOPER!!!!!

  • Am I the only one who cringed when I saw someone wearing sandals in a lab? Maybe I've just spent too much time in a chemistry lab.

  • uhh can you please marry me? That was awesome! I laughed so hard gotta love nerdy science humor!

  • We definitely watched this in my evolution lecture this morning, so hilarious. I may have to steal your mL of Taq line. Made my day.

  • i had to present a paper on stickleback genetics today in class, and i showed this at the end of the presentation - everyone loved it! thanks!

  • @dvanbeckum That's awesome! Thanks for sharing. Btw, I just posted 2 new parodies to my channel. If you liked this, you should check them out.

  • Remind me to apply to UC when I apply to grad school next year...

And this is absolutely fantastic. Please make more.

  • Hey! No open-toed shoes in lab!

  • As though I did not want to apply to the UC system badly enough as it was...

  • I *love* this. Of course, I perversely like the word "stickleback," and I want the phone number of the person who came up with "I wanna unzip your genes with helicase." Paranomasia FTW! (Yes, I am *that* kind of nerd.)

  • this is amazing...

  • I want the mp3 of this to go with my symphony of science mix >_>

  • haha! Next time I come to Cali I totally wanna hang with you guys. This pretty much made my day.

  • That's great. Bet you all could get creative with pirate perch?

  • Dudes... awesome.

  • This REALLY makes me excited to get into grad school for fisheries science. Just sayin...

  • *cringed but watched entire video*

haha, and i'm sure you guys ROCK the clubs with those dance moves...

  • Oh this is the funniest thing! I want to be in grad school. Haha!

  • you know you're a science geek when....you find this absolutely hilarious

  • bitchin.

  • Yes I agree, Pharyangula sent me this way as well. Loved it, very funny, just awesome.

  • Ha, love it. Also expect your hit count to jump through the roof now that your highlighted on Pharyngula.

  • @Mercuriousss Haha. Someone pointed me to the blog today. I'm glad to get some exposure!

  • @skarefamena Hope you like Pharyngula. PZ is a biology prof at University of Minnesota-Morris. Just watch out in the comments, it can occasionally look like feeding time for the sharks. But I've been an avid reader, not commenter though, for a number of years and love the discussions there.
