Unfortunately F1 cars are not that *sick* anymore. I think that McLaren had 850 hp - 900 hp (3.0-litre V10) and a mass of ~600 kg. Today they are running 2.4-litre V8's and thus less power. Overall lap times are still almost equal (or even a bit faster?) due to better aerodynamics and tires.

I don't think so :) Bugatti Veyron was actually quite "slow" on Nûrburgring. It's just too heavy to corner fast. Veyron's record time is 7:40 while e.g. Ferrari Enzo has 7:25. These can be found on Wikipedia.

I've seen a test done by TopGear on BBC of McLaren F1 vs Veyron. The F1 acceleration is immense. The Veyron, however, has a better top end. How does this translate on an a race track you might ask? I don't know a whole lot of road course that has tons of straight ways where you can capitalize on your 255 mph speed. I'd bet my house for the F1 to race against Veyron on the real road course with capable race drivers.

Maybe i should excercise a few 100 laps to make a knowlegde with these cars. Also you have to look to his lap time: is slower with about 7 seconds than one lap during the race, if i remember correct to the 2002 lap times. 1:31:2 for these cars is just for to warm up the engine and the tires.

@The23Jman the only thing they are even in is in top speed and that is because F1 are geared that way. If gearing was not an issue I am sure an F1 could go as fast as it wanted since they break through wind better than anything. The hp/L in the turbo era of F1 was even the same as a Top Fuel Dragster and the F1 was not even using nitro methane & they lasted for 2 hours!!!

hehe... McLaren F1 isnt even full speed, can do much more. DC did 1'31.20 time per lap with 3 cars. Real F1 speed is 1'18.233! - Kimi did in 2004.

The time for the cars to leave is based on the F1's avg take off lap. A laps done before in the F1 to see where he will be at that corner. Its very simple, but it just shows how much power them cars have.
