Ive noticed the same. Even tho the guy plays well, theres just something that the guitar doesnt sound right. If you watch his video of boulevard of broken dreams it happens again. I tried playing with a capo and down tuning...... I just cannot figure out whats going on.

you need to tune yr guitar whole step down then drop both E strings whole step down also.then u play the D chord as normal and use pinky for add on and off note,thenthe next part u only drop yr middle finger down one fret to index finger.then start over again.He plays the two bass strings together alot as a chord in alot of songs.very cool tuning to play with.keep playing little guy
