  • nobody has commented in a year? the fingertip thing was helpful. I could never figure out why my playing is always slightly muddy.

  • Nice Video!! I especially agree on the repect your instrument part. In India Classical music playing or singing is started off by teaching a pupil to respect his instrument and his teacher before all else.

  • You should make a self hynosis track for better guitar skills! id listen to it every night!

  • wow... thanx for the advice.. finally

  • All i gotta say is after watchin your video im actually motivated to get better, thanks for the motivation

  • 5 stars for you and YAY!! I'm the 100th rating. \o/

Your attitude toward your instrument is very impressive. And your tips/advices/recommendations strike me as very insightful, true, and valuable.

Thanks for taking the time to record this and share it with everyone!

  • i wonder what else those fingers can do?

  • lmfao

  • all in all I guess is to take it serious. Cause the learning curve is pretty big and you shoud take it seriously or you will not see your results and you will give up after a few months or a year of practicing.

  • omg! u are so talented!

i want to have your kids !!!

  • thx so much dude so much great help and advice im just goin through all ur videos

  • just do what you say

  • This is a great lecture...what makes it surprising is that a young guy has this much good advice.

  • your exactly right quality over quantity i've only been playing guitar for 2 years and i've met people who been playing for like 5 and there like well how are you so good and i tell them it's not about how long you practice it's about what your learning while your practicing if you can at least learn 1 new thing everyday that's real good.

  • great video man.

do you have any tips about my fingers..I just began last night and my fingers get so crooked when playing

  • i noticed that you said exactly what marty friedman says in one of his videos, do you credit him for this information?

  • Wow, i had no idea. Honestly.

I had to google his image to see if ive been into any of his books/videos and can't say i have. Exactly what is like he said?

I take from A LOT of sources like metal videos, jazz videos, bluegrass/blues, etc... i take from all of them.

Im interested. Let me know :D

  • Haha I've never had anything distract me from guitar...lol nothing entertains me more.

  • lol. thats how it should be... but its sometimes hard to turn off my head even...

  • Haha no I know what you're saying. You're bang on with this video and the rest of them. Thanks a bunch!

  • thanks but i have no idea what a metronome is...

  • it just keeps time

  • great tips man!

  • Finaly! I have been looking for something like this! you are being subscribed by me from this very moment on!

All the tips you gave were grate, and I agree on all of them. the only thing is I cant find anything to practise on. no exercises, no nothing. I end up playing songs I know and stuff, and basically playing because its fun. I have been on this spot for some time. lately I heard about the pentatonic scale, and I have been playing around it like crazy. I am really hungry for some new stuff!

  • hmmmm,

I recommend you maybe get around the warmups in the video. as "un-musical" as they may be, they can definately get your fingers in shape and around the fretboard for when you begin to learn about arpeggios and more "advanced" chords... (if thats your thing)

    BOTTOM LINE:

PRACTICE THINGS YOU DONT KNOW. You really accomplish nothing by practicing the things you know, cause you know them. if you challenge yourself and do things you arent used to, you'll come out better in the end.

  • Really true! I dig it.

  • great speech :-) I agree on all of it !

  • thanks!

Its just something i feel strongly about, and just this past friday i actually listened to it myself to 'practice what i was preaching'

  • word,

But maybe he has a reason to be so white, i dont :(

I should be in the sun all the time... haha

  • This is an awesome lesson. Thanks a lot! Are you from New Jersey? I don't hear a distinct accent but you remind me so much of a friend I have in Philly (but he reminds me of New Jersians).

  • Lol,

Im from Miami, born and raised here. I dont even think i was hanging out with my teacher form NY at the time i made this - which would be the only reason i could sound like a northerner :D

  • great tips man, cheers

  • thanks. Very useful! :)

  • omg this is just what i need cheers

  • very informative thanx

  • great video thanx

  • Gabe: muy buena explicacion...

ya lo estoy poniendo en practica...gracias

  • I think these are some really good tips sir, thank you for sharing.

  • wow man i totally agree with everything you sid is correct!!!!!!!1 and you are right when you say that half of the guitar players don;t care half about half of the list heheh

  • nice speach! lol

    now, seriusly, noce gob man

  • good job mate.

    GooD job..!!

  • what's a metranom?

  • really?

  • does anyone know an exercise that doesnt require a guitar, for at work or something to build strength in the fingers??????

  • spare this page of your shit no contribution replies.

its a 5 part series. fool.

  • dunno

  • nice lesson

  • Your dexterity exercises are very helpful...keep up the good work.

  • No I haven't. But I myself have to work hard at playing without tension, and I have been playing for 20 years. Alot of bad habits I developed. I also noticed your stretches from John Petrucci's Video's.

  • Sounds like the book " Correct guitar Practice".

  • I will give credit where credit is due and i must say Jamey Andreas is one hell of a teacher. Her techniques and teachings have really influenced my playing, though its something i really have to work hard at. Especially to be able to play effortlessly and with as little tension as possible.

Have you read her newer book... not the first one principles of correct practice.

  • Lol thanks for all now the only problem i got is to find exercises and good stuff to play! :(

  • theres exercises in the other 4 videos...

Best of luck on your quest.

  • Yeah, saw it now . Great!

  • Dude, yer awesome. This is great. Just picked up my first guitar today. All the things you said here make sense. Moving on to Video 2 now...

  • haha i was thought u were talkin about tension like notes lol

  • lol, that would be another lesson.

  • you put alot of things in perspective and the phone and the wife and shit hahaha that was great.

  • nice..
