This film shows one of the three interpretations on the civil war in Peru, the version of U.S. financed NGOs. The people is being "caught between two fires" and calls as the U.S. does "terrorists" to the maoist revolutionaries. This approach is not based on a scientific investigation but on deep bias and prejudice fueled by US money against the poor in Peru which were the backbone of this revolution.
@DoelGr more like what didnt happen... a comunist terrorist group trying to overthrow the goverment, it lasted 20 years :/ not cool at all... im being very short, but dig into it, its a lot to swallow
they say there was no terrorist in Lima? so what about all the car bombs, the destroy electrical towers, the killings and the kidnappings? only a Peruvian knows what our country went trough
It was a war where there as no winner, only death. And Fujimori took advantage of our despair to control the country and destroy democracyTerrorism isn't defeated, it only sleeps, as long there is poor and excluded people from society there well be always be the shadow of terrorism.
NO. You're wrong if you think that Fujimori is a savior...he is nothing but a killer seduced by lust for power...nothing else. I agrre the sinister period during Belaunde and Garcia's perios...but that doen't excuse the murderrings and the death squads that-like terrorists-took the lifes is innocent. Now I can tell only this: it was a civil war in which we are all responsble,..we who forgotted our brothers of La Sierra, we pushed them to take this tragic decision os adopting terrorism.
State of fear is a biased documentary because it is focused only on Fujimori presidency and what about the past??? Did Belaunde and Alan succeed?? No becuase their governments seemed to look after terrorism. There is no doubt that most of Human rights rapes happened in the 80's when Belaunde and Garcia governed our country. On top of that politicians almost destroyed our country. Corruption had spread anywhere that's why my compatriots congratulated Fujimori when he closed the parliament
You know why we are talking about the terrorism in Peru in past tense? It is because Fujimori declared the war against terror. That is why we no longer have IED in our roads, and the children of peasants are no longer recruited and forced to fight for the terrorists. I lived there and I saw it. There were crimes in both sides? yes, but that is the problem when people use weapons to impose their ideas. Peace.
During Alan and Belaunde's time people were dying in the Andes without any type of feeling or comments from the government. Fujimori led the army against the terrorists. Politicians at the time worried more in gaining more power in titles, greedy and corrupt in majority. Let me ask you, how do you rule in a country were not one person is honest and action is needed to save the country?. Those who suffered are pro Fujimori. Fujimori is respected by those who lived and have roots to the Andes.
Me, being born in lima with both peruvian parents makes me a peruvian citizen, if I would have lived all my life in the US makes me an american citizen, which what so ever doesn't mean I should either reject make peruvian roots or my heritage. Please be a little more intelligent when making comments.
Listen, for all those people about to be brainwashed by some political video, be really careful. As a peruvian citizen, I have had horrible experiences regarding terrorism, and nobody that has actually lived with FEAR for years can comment anything. I, an independent person with total freedom of speech, am thankful of the ex president. Without this so called "dictatorship" I wouldn't be living today with PEACE.
The idea that Fujimori defeated terrorism is a myth that he skillfully fabricated with his control of the media. The biggest blow to terrorism in Peru was the capture of Shining Path leader Guzmán, which was done by an underfunded police unit that Fujimori disparaged - he wanted to use the military solution, which was no solution at all, simply a tragedy.
Skylightpix has it right. Sendero was a spent force in the Sierra by the time Fujimori took power, and their Lima structure collapsed independently of any actions taken by Fujimori.
I agree with xguti. What I experienced was killings in towns near Lima and in Lima itself. Give Cesar what belongs to him, do not ever question this because you would be part of those who want to rewrite history to fit interests away from the truth. What you descendall and skylightpix suggest is pure lack of awareness of the circumstances of the time. Being Peruvian, I support Fujimori and thank him.
