Just wanted to stop in and say thank you for this video. It's great, and it really eased my nerves (I'm leaving soon to NYC from Montreal by greyhound, and I've been reading tons of posts online about how terrible greyhound is and how the passengers are all criminals or weirdos. I knew that was an exaggeration, but still). I'm glad to hear you had a relatively normal, non-life-threatening trip to NYC with Greyhound. There is hope! haha :)
@auesr I wouldn't expect so. They x-ray everything that goes through and they probably wouldn't have a problem with that, but I am not a US Customs agent so I can't give you a definite answer.
@cjhoyle Which stop did you stop at in new york? the one near madison square garden? cause the concert is going to be there, how many minutes in advance do you have to arrive to get on the bus if you had the tickets already?
@auesr I got off at The Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd and 8th Ave.). The bus also drops people at Penn Station, which is the same building as Madison Square Gardens.
Check Greyhounds website, but I believe they want you there an hour ahead of the departure time. People seem to start lining up an hour before, and being near the front of the line is probably a good idea.
@cjhoyle What if you're one of the last in line and you can't get on that ride because the bus is full? Did that happen to anyone? and what was the solution?
@auesr Well I'm pretty sure that they make an effort not to oversell the tickets for each trip, so if they've done everything right then you should still be able to get on the bus even if you are the last in line. However, you will probably be less stressed if you are near the front of the line.
As far as I know, everyone waiting for my bus was able to get on without a problem, I don't know what they would have done if there was though.
@cjhoyle You said the bus also drop people off at Penn Station, how does that work? So the bus stops there for a short while then heads to Port Authority? Can you get on a bus at Penn Station?
@auesr When you buy your ticket, you have the choice of buying a ticket for New York, NY (which takes you to the Port Authority), or a ticket for New York, Penn Station (which is what you probably want). It's the same bus that takes people to both places. It stops at the Port Authority first, and most people get off there, and then it continues to Penn Station. I'm sure you would be able to purchase your return ticket to depart from Penn Station too.
@cjhoyle I'm going to see SMT's concert, it's going to be a whole bunch of singers from the same company performing. And they're korean.Thank you for answering all my questions.
what should i expect at the border? how long might it take, what would i need to show? plz let me know someone, i'm going to be travelling soon by this.
I really don't remember how long it took at the border, probably somewhere between 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours including the time spent sitting on the bus waiting for the buses ahead to go through.
There are certain pieces of ID they will accept for you to cross the border to the US. I used my passport.
The Toronto - New York City Run is a joint operation with Greyhound Canada and Trailways of New York. Most of the time you get a Trailways of New York Bus and then sometimes the New Greyhound Bus.
It was a nightmare trying to get past US Borders from Nigara Falls into Buffalo. We didn't had any U.S dollars on us as we just had Canadian. Which then turned out to be a hassle but got into New York, Buffalo in the end.
I'm back from New York now, best trip ever! Part 2 of this video has been posted now. The only thing I still need from Waterloo is my Unicycle, which I will probably come to get in a few days.

If I brought a sign/banner with neon lights for a concert, will the customs allow that? I'm also taking a bus from Toronto to New York.
