@DOMESTOS229 When the concert was finished, FZ and John and Yoko had two separate copies of the master tape. They were in tentative agreement that they would both release the mixes, but John infuriated frank by not only renaming the song, but also mixing out Zappa's band and adding in different musicians. John was pissed because he felt that Mark Volman and Howard were making fun of Yoko by saying 'Put Yoko in a scumbag', but really, who could blame them?
If I was at the mixing console her stage volume would have come up to cover the fact I pulled her from the mains. She would hear herself well, but that would have been it for the goat woman.
Wow. I mean WOW. My 2 absolute musical heroes combined on one stage. They could have just stood there without playing anything, and it would be equally mindblowing. That these 2 human beings met is devastatingly awesome.
hahaha i was watching this and then looked away and came back to it and was like...whered yoko go? but she was in the bag haha. thank you for posting this. i LOVE this. and yoko just makes it that much better
It's a joke. Sometime in 1968 or 1969, John created a series of drawings for Yoko that were called Bag One. No doubt Zappa, Lennon, and Yoko thought this would be funny. Get it? One Bag for Yoko. Anyone who thinks Frank didn't approve of Yoko's screaming ain't paying attention. Zappa did crap like this all the time. Phi Zappa Crappa!
Well, all concerned were incredible talents. EVERYONE. Unfortunately it did not translate very well. Too bad the Lennon's did not take the Mother's music serious enough to learn it before the performance.
Hey, Yoko Ono is a TRENDSETTER! Without her there would've been no Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, and Lady GaGa!!! Yoko only proves that if you sing like shit, be a starfucker, and make a complete fool out of yourself you can make it in this business!
Holy Crap! I was there! This is the last show at the Filmore East. Lennon and ONO came back with the Mother's to do this as the encore. I didn't think this existed! They recorded the "Live at the Filmore East" album that night. Featuring "The Mudshark".... good times!
This is even beyond Middle-East Mosque Chanting. Its been around for ages..I've read about Yoko..even a few songs during the Lennon years that are interesting. But its difficult to describe this; maybe like the lament of a 90 year old Japanese Grandmother whos whole family was destroyed in Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Theres only 1 Yoko..'thank God'. It's like a Japanese Ghost in Chains.
Not exactly, They appeared on the vinyl version of "Sometime in New York City", not the CD release. Totally different mixes of these recordings appear on the Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention CD "Playground Psychotics"
Wikipedia note - "An alternate mix of tracks 22 through 26, at times with different titles, appears on the John Lennon and Yoko Ono album, Sometime in New York City."
For background, see the YouTube clip - Zappa on John and Yoko
That's what I meant - the vinyl SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY, which I've owned since 1977. I'm not one for re-purchasing stuff on C.D. - anyway, thanks for your response.
Yoko is always going to be the broad you love to hate because John did the most unBeatle things with her. The average person doesn't care about her Fluxus art group roots and doesn't want her Kabuki inspired vocalize because it's just too far out of mainstream rock.
As for their marriage, it wasn't as rosy as they portrayed it.
Very cool. Great to see this video after all of this time. I had the vinyl, of course, and really liked that Zappa, who appreciated both Musique concrète and musicians like Varèse, liked Yoko and her Fluxus roots enough to both appear with her in concert and release the performance.

They say the LSD is stored in the fatty tissue...for future use...like the approach of a bridge which has no bridge to cross the canyon just yet...Yes I believe that is a good analogy. An approach to a bridge from which you get going like 135 miles and hour and then the fatty cells lit go of all this stored up LSD and VIOLA you are carreening across a canyon approach to a bridge which isn't built yet !!! hahahah!
What the fuck is Yoko Ono doing on stage?! She just makes sounds like sheep being slaughtered. Christ almighty. I'm surprised hollywood didn't try casting her as the character Hannibal in Silence of the Lambs.
I'm only 24 so I may be full of poo BUT I see this, listen to this and say, "It's no surprise to me that Wolfgang closed the Fillmores!" It's a shame that my generation hardly knows about this stuff, that they claim, "good music" is Drake and Kesha! I was born way too late.
I'm a proud owner of this recording on cassette. Since I first saw this 1971 film snippet on utube, I've gained an indept understanding and appreciation of The Plastic Ono Band and Zappa's contribution to the art of sound. It also explains Lennon's need to break away from the Beatles format which, must have utterly bored him by 1970. This recording, like Mile's Bitches Brew, is one of the seminal sound masterpieces of 1971.

@decimated550 First, I dig the form of your comment--like YouTube haiku--totally cool. Second, I think I got it wrong originally. The scumbag is being placed over her makes her the dick...the dick that helped destroy the Beatles. Thanks, Yoko--your work here is done!
