Alot of main industries in which Obama has rationalized has no positive effect for decent hard working people whatsoever. The stimulus packages doesn't make any differences either, knowing he also made a range of deficits towards every investment scheme provided for the whole population of America as well. There's no way Obama will steer the wheel to reverse debt problems because he contributes to ensure the US goes into another recession.

Not true- at the end of Bush's administration, we were HEMORRHAGING jobs. The bleeding stopped in October 09, and since then unemployment has gone down 1%. So they essentially did nothing. When you have HALF the house refusing to budge on ANYTHING I'm not sure what you expect to get accomplished.

Demand creates jobs at the end of the day- if a company has no business, you could cut the owners tax all day, they won't hire- they'll sit on it. And I don't blame them.

No, I'm suggesting that people all to often mix up moving the companies base off-shore to get tax breaks and moving the manufacturing off-shore to get cheaper labor. They don't have much to do with one another. In the meantime though, our government is HIGHLY leveraged. We need to just throw money at this deficit. We hit the rich with 4% more that they're just sitting on anyway, and close the loopholes that allow companies to make billions in profit and pay ZERO in taxes (GE).

Certainly cuts need to be made- Defense, Drug War needs to be ended, a few departments can go. SS, Medicare and Medicaid need massive reform. All would be great for the DEFICIT- But cutting govt spending won't create jobs- quite the opposite. The problem is companies have no customers. No demand, too much private debt. Cutting taxes, cutting government spending, etc. Will do NOTHING of benefit to that end. If an employer can make more money by hiring, they will, taxes be damned.

Well, I'm talking two-term presidents only. The Auto industry was revived, and the unemployment stopped skyrocketing. Obama effectively stopped the bleeding. It only went up a net 2% in his first year vs. 3% in Bush's last. The problem was the stimulus wasn't big enough. It was too watered down. Obama is too weak kneed, I will agree on that. Mitch McConnell said outright that the goal of Congress is to remove the President and I guess leave the country in limbo in the meantime.

@GrassValleyGreg Yes they did nothing...some of the coporations gave bonuses to their executives instead of using the money what is was suppose to be. The Auto industry and entire economy were NO WHERE NEAR COLLAPSE. In the many economic downturn times between 1953 (50 recession) and 2010, this WAS the best of the worst until about 2010...now I'd rate it 2 or 3rd among about the 5 major crisis..many people have told me the 70s downturn was MUCH worse than this one. And it will bounce back up.

Not true- at the end of Bush's administration, we were HEMORRHAGING jobs. The bleeding stopped in October 09, and since then unemployment has gone down 1%. This was in SPITE of the GOPs in Congress who, after Obama was elected and the Democrats had total control, basically cast nothing but "No" votes on ANYTHING proposed by the Dems. So they essentially did nothing. When you have HALF the house refusing to budge on ANYTHING I'm not sure what you expect to get accomplished.

@GrassValleyGreg Bush employment rate was at its worse at 7.3 percent, under Obama the job situtation rose to 10 percent than got a little better than went down again. Before Bush took over the economy was already declining and Bush slowed that with the tax cuts and umeployment never went past 6.3 percent. Obama's DOD cuts are gonna make the economy A LOT worse, expect unemployment to reach 12 or 13 percent by next year, if his major cuts happen in 2013, Unemployment may reach in the 20s or 30s.

The highest unemployment rate for Bush was 7.8 in Jan 09 (you got it, the MONTH HE LEFT OFFICE). It was at 5% one year earlier. We were hemorrhaging jobs, dude. Tumbling down a cliff when Bush left office. If you expected Obama, with that obstructionist Congress to be able to reverse a full on recession single-handed, then you are naive. And tax cuts have NOTHING to do with employment. That is a complete myth. And cuts HAD to be made, remember? GOP won't DO anything otherwise.

I didn't except Obama to stop it, I expected him to SLOW it...and according to the so-called Economists we were in a recession with 5 percent unemployment rate in 08. Taxes have everything to do with it, you cost people giving jobs to much money, they take those jobs away, Clinton cut the coporate tax and unemployment dropped, the Cuts didn't have to come out of the DOD...

He DID slow it. Unemployment stopped skyrocketing in October 2009... That was 9 months into his presidency and shortly after the watered down, 50% tax cuts stimulus had taken affect. It's DOWN 1% since. Taxes have ZERO to do with jobs dude. ZERO. It's not so much a myth, as it is a huge assumption and essentially a gamble. But as an economic policy, George H. W. Bush had it right- it's Voodoo.

Clinton cut the Coporate taxes and it created 22 million jobs...Regan cut taxes from 71 to 42 percent for the rich and unemployment dropped nearly 3 percent in a year...the rich will cut jobs to save the money the government is taking from them. Meanwhile we have a trillion dollars in unconstitutional exectuive departments..

The idea that the money saved with the tax cuts would automatically be invested or used to employ people is an ASSUMPTION. And Reagan, GHWB, and Clinton all RAISED taxes too- it's as not as simple as Tax Cuts=More Jobs, in fact there's really no connection to be made there and no evidence of its veracity. Demand creates jobs at the end of the day- if a company has no business, you could cut the owners tax all day, they won't hire- they'll sit on it. And I don't blame them.

@GrassValleyGreg Regan closed tax loopholes and got rid of the 71 percent bracket and brought it down to 42 percent, GHWB taxes were during a recession and it got worse. Clinton CUT the corporate taxes, (but then again borrowed against SS, Defense and Intelligence). If you take an a MORE money that someone is making, alot more that is, they will try to say more and make a bigger profit but slashing jobs, the people who would be the business would have LESS money to spend at said business...

Those are ALL assumptions, don't you see? In any event- what Obama proposed was a return to Clinton era rates- which would amounted to a 4% increase on the top. That would've had no effect on employment. Demand and wages are why we are having problems- why pay an American 1200 a month minimum when you can pay someone in China a small fraction of that? And why hire if there is no demand for the job? Taxes play no role in that. There are jobs, but they require expensive degrees.

No, I'm suggesting that people all to often mix up moving the companies base off-shore to get tax breaks and moving the manufacturing off-shore to get cheaper labor. They don't have much to do with one another. In the meantime though, our government is HIGHLY leveraged. We need to just throw money at this deficit. We hit the rich with 4% more that they're just sitting on anyway, and close the loopholes that allow companies to make billions in profit and pay ZERO in taxes (GE).

@GrassValleyGreg Once again Tax breaks so they move overseas, we are sitting on a trillion dollars of unconstitutional executive departments, we get rid of those, plus scaling back out government we could easily get rid of our defecit. 10 of the 15 executive departments plus several needs need to be eliminated and return control to the states, the U.S. Government would have a ton of money to throw at the defecit then.

Certainly cuts need to be made- Defense, Drug War needs to be ended, a few departments can go. SS, Medicare and Medicaid need massive reform. All would be great for the DEFICIT- But cutting govt spending won't create jobs- quite the opposite. The problem is companies have no customers. No demand, too much private debt. Cutting taxes, cutting government spending, etc. Will do NOTHING of benefit to that end. If an employer can make more money by hiring, they will, taxes be damned.

@GrassValleyGreg All Defense cuts do will bring more unemployment, you'll be taking away busines from defense contrators, designers, laborers, engineers, and the Military personal and soon we will make more people out of work looking for work. End of drug prohibition I agree, SS needs to be privitized so they government can stop borrowing against it. Stimuls and bailouts don't do much, it just raises the debt, The credit downgrade will create more private debt because interest rates will climb

That's all any cuts will do- if you're talking about cutting spending, you're talking about cutting jobs, projects, contracts, etc. etc. Granted some do NEED to go, but I don't think there's a single department in the government that would be an exception. Hell, we're still building shit like it's the Cold War- we've got billion dollar jets that we've NEVER used! I truly believe the private debt in this country is what is really killing us here. That's why there's no customers.

But I'm not at all opposed to states having more control- as the Federal Government is inarguably too complex to effectively work. But these are all things that MUST be eased in- over several years. 4% increase on the top 1% is not unreasonable at ALL. The tax code needs a wrecking ball taken to it as well.

Obama even campaigned on the fact that Bush doing that was "UnAmerican, Un-Patoritc, ect." Then he goes and raises the debt even more. I mean you don't give someone who had trouble paying their bills more money.

The Tea Party is more responsible in the short term, they held the process hostage- but in the long term it was the Presidency of George W. Bush that did us in. Massive tax cuts, two wars, and none was ever paid for. That MFer started out with a budget surplus for crying out loud! His first spending veto came in November 2007! When GOP had total control there were ZERO vetoes! Only one 2-term president had fewer vetoes... Here's a hint- it's another George, and it's NOT his dad.

Bush become President while the economy was already in a decline, his tax cuts slowed down the recession and stopped unemployment short at 6 percent, then it helped fall back down to 4 percent. Your historical fact was wrong, James Madison had 50 percent less than Washington and plenty others had less veots, and His first veto came in July 2006.

The Tea Party is a very real entity within Congress, so they most certainly can be responsible. And Washington had a total of 2 vetoes, one for each term... Madison had 7, and GWB 12- so you're right that I excluded Madison (and TJ as well, actually) but still you get my point, historically low amount of vetoes by Bush and the supposedly fiscally responsible GOP. We may have been sliding at the end of Clinton- but we went off a cliff after Bush and Co.'s total recklessness.

Well, I'm talking two-term presidents only. The Auto industry was revived, and the unemployment stopped skyrocketing. Obama effectively stopped the bleeding. It only went up a net 2% in his first year vs. 3% in Bush's last. The problem was the stimulus wasn't big enough. It was too watered down. Obama is too weak kneed, I will agree on that. Mitch McConnell said outright that the goal of Congress is to remove the President and I guess leave the country in limbo in the meantime.

@GrassValleyGreg The bailouts did nothing, many people still lost their homes and in fact when the stimulus was passed, unemployment still went up, dropped, went back up, bounced around, so I am not sure yet, but I feel unemployment will be back on the rise very soon.

Nothing? Bush and Obama are not dealing with comparable problems, and no solution is going to save everyone. The auto industry and the entire economy were on the verge of COLLAPSE. There's a difference between prospering and surviving. We are doing the latter. Prosperity is down the road a ways for most of us, for some an impossible distance. We crashed hard here. There's no magic bullet on this one. And unemployment actually dropped from January 2010-January 2011, almost 1%.

The Auto industry and entire economy were NO WHERE NEAR COLLAPSE. In the many economic downturn times between 1953 (50 recession) and 2010, this WAS the best of the worst until about 2010...now I'd rate it 2 or 3rd among about the 5 major crisis..many people have told me the 70s downturn was MUCH worse than this one. And it will bounce back up.
