  • At least he did, god damn it, at least he did it.

  • The greatest pop group of all time wasn't the Beatles, it was the Monkees! Surprise. They don't want you to know that, the powers that be.

  • Never seen that before!

  • Nesmith looks very uncomfortable. Wonder why he did the show.

  • I forgot to say that Kmart was across our backyard.

  • I taped this whole marathon. I kept going across our back yard and buying kodak vhs tapes to record on my vcr. I threw them away years ago. Now they are probably are in a land fill in new hampshire in a garbage bag. boo hoo!

  • Ami Dolenz was so dang cute.

  • I think Michael Nesmith changed so much after the Monkees - when he grew his beard I've never really been able to see it's the same person and he looks SO different nowadays - you can barely tell it's him, but just for a few split seconds between 3.35 and 3.37 in this vid as he takes the glasses and hat off you get a glimpse of the old Michael Nesmith just by seeing the top half of his face - it's wierd - then he takes the Santa beard off and you can't see it's him again!

  • I saw Micky Dolenz in Concert in Ca. last year, 2010. He was great.

  • @nozrydr1 I saw him ths year

  • Peter has such a kind of...eternally youthful look and feel about him :) <3

  • Thank you so much for the great memories! I wish I still had this on video cassette. (Back when VCRs were so huge and heavy. I feel old now...)

  • Straight up: Nez 4 Prez!

  • never saw this before because I didn't have cable then (still don't) nice post.

@ 3.33 the girls standing on either side of davy are his teenage daughters!

  • never saw this before because I didn't have cable then (still don't) nice post.

  • Does anyone know if this is on CD somewhere? I would love to own it!

  • Davy looked funny in the PJs that he was wearing when he was singing "I saw mommy kissing Santa Clause" hehe

  • I love it.... seeing Mike at the end. The one who wants least to do with The Monkees. Its great.

  • The ending indeed was the best surprise. It was so nice to see the most underrated genius take off that beard!

  • peter is the one who looks good here looks hot for once

  • That was Ami, Micky's daughter? Was that Davy's daughter as well? There's a girl standing next to Davy who looks a lot like him and also a little girl on his lap that looks like him... could it be a grand daughter?

  • OMGosh...I have never seen this footage before. It is GREAT. Not only seeing all the guys together again..it was wonderful to see Ami (Micky's daughter) standing behind him in a couple of scenes. Thanks for posting this!

  • This is the first time that I have seen this footage and its great. We missed out a heck of a lot of the Monkess reunion footage in the UK...not fair. Hopefully someone might piece it all together and release it one day. That would be a great christmas present

  • Downtown Julie Brown and Martha Quinn!-what remembrance! The Monkees ruled! Go Davy,Mickey and Peter!

  • I'm playing the sleigh bells on "Jingle Bell Rock".

  • @ezyne are you Eddie Zyne? One of my favorite drummers?????

  • @fuzzyli Hey Fuzzy, yes, it's me, Eddie. I was the drummer in 1986 for The Monkees 20th Anniversary tour. That was over 20 years ago! I'm playing with Fernando Perdomo in Dreaming In Stereo as well as with Billy Livesay in The Livesays and also with the original bass player of Foghat, Tony Stevens in Slow Ride. I'm on the new Hall & Oates 4 CD box set "Do What You Want, Be What You Are" on Disc 1 Tracks 16, 17, 18 & 19.

  • Video from back when MTV played music video's. And the acts had talent. Those days are long gone.

  • One of my favorites Xmas' ever-you should have seen me when the beard came off-lmao

  • They looked awesome. Great video.

  • I love Mike

  • I remembered them showing this video on MTV during Christmas 1986. I loved this video but, they should put the whole video including the beginning where they showed "We wish you a Merry Christmas". I taped this song as well.

  • This is a Nickelodeon airing of the video. They cut it off unfortunately. I do have the full video on tape, but haven't located it yet.

  • There is a full video of this song on YouTube. Its called Monkees Christmas 1986 melody. I already listened to the full medley of this song.

  • I had guessed that Santa was Mike. Yaay for my smartness. Not really. All well.

  • Oh, at 2:18. I love that song, it was a pleasant surprise. :) And Mike as Santa, ahaha.

  • Had never seen this before. KNEW that Santa had to be Mike. Glasses were dead giveaway even before he pulls off the hat and beard.

  • ok I feel dumb now. I forgot that Nez totally reveals himself at the end!! I love that - what a good sport he is!!! He's my favorite Monkee.

  • OMG is that Nez as Santa? J/K but seriously my friend and I used to watch this (we were 12) and we were SURE that that was him - that it was the only way he'd appear in the video! LOL

  • Back when MTV actually played videos. LOL!

  • Ah... Martha Quinn was sooo hottt!!! I always wanted her!!!

  • I love that part in the beginning when Davy and Peter are wrapping Micky up like a present. LOL also those parts when they're giving out the presents, omg that part when Davy takes that axe outta the bag and making that scary face and Peter's reaction to it is so priceless. And the part where Davy and Peter fall through the hole in the table is hysterical. And that part when Davy sang I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus was adorble.

  • This is so cute I love them singing all the Christmas carols, I would love to see this in it's entirety. :)

  • This WAS it in it's entirety.

  • 2:18 I nearly started crying.

  • was that davy's kids sitting on his lap?

and are there other monkee's offspring on here?

  • Yes those are Davy's daughters, and the pretty blond Micky has his arm around during "And So This Is Christmas" is his daughter Amy. I don't know if Peter's son or daughter was there or not. His daughter would have been about 17 and his son 11.

  • Wow...the height of 1986 schtick. I remember watching The Monkees on a tiny TV set in a dorm room that year. Way back when MYV still had music on. :)

  • Peter wins the "Best Mullet" award. Davy's is hands down the WORST....dear lord, what did he do to his head...*shudder*

  • Yeah, Davy had the McGuyver Mullet in those days, but with a back perm. LOL

  • From the sound of the announcer at the beginning of the clip, it sounds like this may have been from Nickelodeon's "Nick Rocks" Maybe they were re-airing the video. I think Nickelodeon is owned by MTV. Great video.

  • Kinda ironic that Mike...can't ride a bike.

  • Wow! I remember this video completely, including Downtown Julie' Brown's "solo"

As I watched this, for a brief second I was 12 years old again. Happy Holidays!!

  • 00:53-1:00

Who was that common tart? She almost ruined this otherwise FANTASTIC rare video.

    Thank you AntiFrodis!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aw c'mon! That's Downtown Julie Brown, former MTV VJ. Wubba Wubba Wubba!

  • I had a feeling that Mike was Santa, it was weird when he took off the beard and everything. He didn't seem too happy to be there though.

  • I don't know if I'd agree that Mike didn't look happy, I think he just felt akward. Just before the clip ends, you can see a quick, sincere smile he flashes to Peter.

  • @LORCA7678 yeah me too :(

But it's so cute at the end with Peter and him

  • I remember that so much in the middle 80's....

    STILL LOVE IT!!!

  • martha quinn was the cutest !

  • I miss them

  • Don't we all?

  • I LOVE the Monkees

But Justus was pretty bad man..

    Sigh

  • I know you wrote this a full year ago. But, cut me some slack. I'm just now seeing this. Plus, I'm sure your opinion of Justus has not changed. First of all, I don't see what real Monkees fan did NOT like Justus. First of all, there is some very very good musicianship, production & arrangements going on with that project. And, it was a matter of principle, as well. They come together - publicly - as a foursome to after 20 years to cut a record, because they love to create music.....

  • .....that's outstanding. Most artists do a few albums, get rich, successful & split. I'm a musician of 20 years. So, there is a special thing here for me. and, apologies for posting my first comment twice. Oversight, there. Peace.

  • The songs!

You and I is one of the few decent songs on the album

    Never Enough - blah!

I don't know - none of the songs Micky sings on Justus (not Justme) cuts it for me - Admiral Mike? nah

And he sings the whole album!

  • cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • Thanks, Pashak!! But, seriously, folks, Pashak is a Monkees fan from way way back. He's just being modest by pretending to be a random spammer.

  • 20 years ago -when entertainment was FUN!!!!!

  • I agree with you! The Monkees truly have a timeless appeal.... but mainly to people who can remember the days before reality TV set in and took over as cheap entertainment!

  • Davy still can't sing. And the mullet! have another drink davy.

Micky sounds great as always, Peter still looks like a kind soul and there's handsome Mike.

  • i agree But the Reunion would never happen..the only Person that wouldnt do it would be Mike Nesmith he wants to forget the monkees ...which sux..mmm peter Tork :)

  • Actually, at this point, the only one who would be interested in a reunion is probably Peter. Davy is done with the others, as is Mike. I think Micky would like to move on as well.

  • Why Peter would be the only one interested in a reunion? For some reason, he would be the first one out..

  • Peter was the first one out in the 60's. He's been dying to get back with them ever since. He's had the least amount of success in showbiz of the four.

  • I would imagine that Peter as well as others had received enough interm of fame and fortune...maybe not. I got Peter'srecent CD and I like it alot.

  • Davy and Peter want to do a reunion and Peter and Micky have been talking a lot but so far Micky hasn't shown any interest. The three of them are still friends but Mike does not keep in touch with any of them. He seems to be happy doing his own thing.

  • @Antifrodis i know its been 3 years since you've said that, but there is currently a rumor of a monkee reunion tour, no dates set yet, Don't know who all is involved either but its Davy who set this one up.

  • @LittleD3 Never say never. Nez is recently divorced. So maybe he has more free time. Davy has said so many horrible things about the other 3 guys in interviews in the past several years, but he did manage to get on stage with Peter at least once recently. Micky and Peter have worked together on a few occasions. Let's see what happens. BTW, this is Antifrodis

  • @NesmithTribute true, i'm hoping he'll be there, I want to see them ALL really bad, i've been a fan since i was 2 years old My mom loved them, I think the thought of them getting back together is amazing! I've been watching for updates for almost a month now, still nothing, i hope they announce something soon =]

  • @NesmithTribute He's divorced again?

  • Oh God, their hair!

  • I slightly remember this....thanks for posting it.

  • Boy they grew up from cute kids to handsome men didn't they. Loved this. Thanks.

  • Since Mickey's daughter Amy is in this did anyone look to see if any of Mike's kids (Christian, Jason, Jessica or Jonathan) are in it?

  • I remember when this video came out. All I can say is I'm old. Waaaaaaa;)

  • No older than I am, I suppose. I can remember when Micky was Circus Boy! Age only matters if you're wine or cheese anyway.

  • I love the Mike surprise. Love my Navajo Slim...

  • LOL I love Peter's face when he sees the ax. LOL!!!

  • word has it that MTV refused to play their music videos even though the network had been getting requests from the viewers to play them... I believe the Monkees when they said that MTV gypped them on the superbowl stuff.. Hence the network being a basterd when they quit playing their videos out of spite... The Monkees will always rock in spite of the network being assholes...

  • MTV Revived the Monkees, but they also needed the Monkees too. The used them, & kicked them to the curb. But The Monkees are apart of a Treasued Niche in America & Abroad forever. They do not need MTV at ALL. If they even reunited for ONE song or TV appearance, what an event that would be.

  • A Monkees reunion...that would be awesome. Wish it would happen before its too late. Look at the Beatles...2 of them gone, no chance of a reunion, ever.

  • that would be aMAZEing

  • What is this really?

  • I'm having a horrible flashback

  • I haven't seen this in years! If it wern't for YouTube keeping these clips on here, we would never see them again... heartwarming...

  • Ahh... Martha Quinn... I used to have fantasies about her, LOL.

This was a cool vid, thanks for posting it.

  • Back when MTV didn't suck...oh the good ole days!

  • they pissed off MTV by backing out of a tv special they had previously comitted to doing, for that MTV pulled the plug on them. Can't blame MTV either, had not they ran the "Monkee Marathon" and the "Last Traing to Clarksville" marathon, the Monkees would not have even been close to the huge re-union stars they were in 1986. Kinde like shitting on someone for helping you out.

  • They claimed there was a "miscommunication" regarding the Super Bowl Show. Monkees didn't know anything about it and MTV said they were scheduled.

  • Does anyone see the irony of The Monkees (I mean Mike) pissing off Mtv? I wish they'd play videos again.

  • "Used to be such a good thing

    Such an easy feelin.."

  • And a month later they would piss off MTV and the reunion came crashing down...

  • What did they do to piss off MTV?

  • Wow this was great to see again. I had an audio copy of the song but for some reason I lost the video. Thanks for putting this up.

  • Firstly, let me state that I am a huge Monkees fan. Secondly, is there another piece of music in the entire universe that has less artistic value than this wince inducing treacly slop? Christmas has never been less Merry.

  • YAY!!!! Another one I thought I'd never see again ... it's better than I remembered!

  • You can hear Micky all through "So This is Christmas", sounds awesome. That man has the greatest voice.

  • yes he does. I'm going to see him in Pippin on Saturday!!!

  • martha quinn and downtown julie brown , awesome

  • Haha, soooooo 80's - always disliked Davy's hair that length, lol;) Aw, great vid!

  • Thanks!!! I recorded this off MTV when I was 13- I still have the vhs really bad copy, it barely has sound anymore. Thought I'd never see it again!

  • nice to see Ami Dolenz and Jessica Jones as kids too!

  • I remember that clip... I loved it. I was kind of excited to see Mike with them. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • i kinda guessed he'd be santa lol...i wont mind kissing santa if it was mike nesmith tee hee.

  • I was starting to think you lied... I was wondering where Mike was!

  • Cool, Antifrodis! Thanks for posting that, I had never seen it first time around.
