@jtrischler This thing is so badass!! My last concern would be gas mileage if I owned one lol! :-D My best average would be 3mpg! :-D Thanks for the info anyway!
sounds great...i appreciate the test drive....one thing i noticed is that there is not really much sound to the supercharger...how is it in person and vs gt500>> ....would i be able to use my x plan on a roush or a gt500 and could i get an extended warranty ? sorry for all the questions....how do they handle in the rain?
It sounds louder in person. The camera mic doesn't pic up as much. As for the GT500, it is quieter than you'd think. Ford put a sort of Muffler in the intake tube that can be removed. As soon as you remove that and put a smaller pulley on either car, they get allot more whistle! A z and Xplan is available on the Stage 3 or any Roush. Rain, well, these tires really do well in the rain! Not snow though, not at all. Rain will amaze you though!
Hmmm, curious about something, what does the RS3 have its redline set to? The GT is 7000, well all know, but with the supercharger, HP increase and what not, I am curious if they lowered it.
@jtrischler Should be and IS are two different things, man! That is what I'm after ... confirmation. As in, someone rev it out and see where the limiter is set. And I dun give a shit what the guages indicate! Bottom line is, wondering how confident Roush is with their package, or if they chickened out and lowered the redline 500 ticks or so to play is uber safe.
on the dyno with the 5XR (same overall package) we run them all the way to 7,000 WITHOUT it cutting out. That tells you Roush left it at 7,000 minimum. Typically they bump it up a couple hundred. Don't wory, they are very comfortable, thats why they warranty them for 3/36k. A company like Ford/Roush don't take stupid chances like an aftermarket tuner. There is allot of research, development, and testing done before these ever make it to market.
@jtrischler Let me put it another way. I visit the Roush facility as a dealer and distributor for Roush. While there are certain trade secrets I am sworn not to say, I can be vague and tell you Roush as an engineering company is THE BEST AROUND. They are contract by the MAJOR auto manufacturers (and I am not allowed to mention the names) to CORRECT their mechanical problems. No joke, Warehouses full of engines. When you hear a company has a recall, chances are, Roush may be fixing the issue...
@jtrischler That's what I want to hear. And, no need to mention names, LOL. I understand those intricasies, be it crappy reciprocating design and resulting severe harmonic vibrations, inadequate head design poor air flow and "dead spots" in air flow and a plethora of valve train design issues over the years, oil flow, etc. Yeap, I read between the lines. I'm just glad to get confirmation about Roush's blessing on the 5.0L, and that it keeps the wonderful 7K minimum redline. She's a screamer!
@9b8 Roush as a company never cease to surprise me. We used to carry Saleen and then Saleen Filed Bankruptsy in 2009. We always had issues with spark plugs on the Saleens. They would foul due to excess fuel saturation. Saleen wouldn't cover it under warranty. Roush cars never had that issue. Then I found out Ford only gave Saleen MINIMAL tuning capabilities. They treated them as a tuner. Ford, a partner with Roush gives them access to all parameters. Millions vs hundreds of programming lines.
@9b8 , sounds like ur kinda being a dick here buddy, and my bet is that can't afford one anyway, and if you are so concernened, go get a v6 little buddy
@Brizzzy54 Dude, my modest 04 GT is paid for, and I am in the market for a new one. You'd be on the losing end of the bet. I'm not trying to be obnoxious here at all, just probing to see how knowledgable Mr. Trischler is. And I'm pleasantly surprised! (Frankly, we've all seen a great many "dealers" online that have the crappy Microsoft Michelle voice-over ads, or some hot shot salesman who bearly knows anything about the car.) I am glad to see that he also is an enthusiast. Are you, brizzzy54?
@9b8 What a more important number is, dynoed wheel and estimated brake hp, these cars are dynoing at 552 bhp and on a cool dry day dyno at an estimated 560 bhp at low boost levels. RPMs is a secondary number, also power curve, which Ford and i'm sure Roush does a good job of engineering. Roush also offers a simple pulley and tune that easily push this car past 600, as well as a 750 hp tune, look it up,
@1vdn992 Yeah, I saw those, and have long heard of big numbers coming from those puppies. The boys with the GTs are even getting 850HP out of them at the crank. Pretty stout if you ask me! My only curiosity was if the motor is taking those kind of stresses at 7K RPM. As you likley you, stresses grow exponentially with RPM.
I just order a 2012 Roush, black, red stripes, with white accents! Loaded with Roush options. John is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about these products. He assisted me with colors, options, etc., and treated me as a long time customer, although this is my first dealings with him!
John i am thinking you were going to do the same thing you did on this video with the 5XR but you just sold them to fast heheh and also the 2012 came out very early as well...but just the same thanks for the video now i know what my car sounds like...
Well, allot depends on the driver. Both are great cars. As I have track reports from many of my customers, I have heard 1/4 times of 11.8 on the 5XR which has the same powertrain, and I have heard reports of 12.2 on the GT500 which still weighs about 230lbs more than the Roush even with the aluminum motor (it was over 300lbs) You can of course tweek them both. We have pulley/tune kits for the Roush or the Shelby to increase HP. The Roush though would be lower production numbers.
And, allot depends on your personal likes. The GT500 has a more aggressive nose, while the Roush has that bold stealth muscle car look. The Roush exhaust is definately louder and you have more customizable options like the RS3 custom seats, chrome wheels, etc. The RS3 uses a 2.3l TVS blower and a 5.0 engine while the GT500 uses a larger displacement engine and a smaller supercharger. I will say when I go gas them up, I by far, get more looks and yells with the Roush cars.
@daredevil7442 I own a 2010 Roush Stage 3. The car annihilates the GT500 in every category. While the internals for the Roush are stock and the boost is lower for 2012, the horsepower numbers are very close. My 2010 runs mid 11's to low 12's depending on the track and weather on the stock tires. Around road courses, this car runs away from the vipers, vettes, and porsches. The GT500 isnt even in the same league.
Yeah, weight has allot to do with it. Thats why people like the Boss. It has 444hp on the lighter 5.0 Mustang. Well the Stage 3 has a Supercharger with the same round about numbers as a GT500 and the Lighter chassis of a Boss and gives you the Best of BOTH!! Plus it's much more limited!
Well, the only issue is, we only got 6 Regular Boss cars and 2 Laguna Seca's. They are all sold, so I can't really drive them. I do have a customer local I can ask if he will let me shoot some footage on his when it comes in any day. I can tell you though, the Boss exhaust is QUIET compared to this. I did do a video on both Boss cars, including a short drive with the customer on the Laguna model to hear it. If you browse my other videos, you will see those.
This vid doesnt really provide any info except sound driving around. How bout some track #s...0-60 1/4 mile maybe a comparison vs a shelby gt500
