Under what circumstances will a train derail and fly off the tracks and leave the locomotive moving along as though nothing had happened? It's been my modeling experience that the cars don't like to let go without trying to derail the whole train, and if it decouples in the middle, then the car forward of the decoupling doesn't get away clean: usually the back truck of that car or locomotive comes off the tracks, while everything forward keeps going.

@c182SkylaneRG There's only one set of circumstances I can think of. You need an old simulator with a warped sense of physics. Add some speed and a dose of complete lack of realism and viola, oddball derailment!

that sim is total unmitigated crap. The derailment put no decelerating force on the loco which was still coupled to the cars during the first several seconds. Also, the force of the derailed cars should have pulled the loco off the tracks to the engineer's right.

Um, Have I missed the point? It's a boring looking game of a train crashing - Not exactly Grand Theft Auto or something is it. Play Flight Simulator, it's more interesting.
