A lovely video. But if you put yourself out here you should be able to take constructive criticism without becoming defensive. The 'requi--ahm' is the only jarring note in the performance - the difference between professional sound and stubborn amateur. Learn, child. We never stop learning.
A beautiful performance! I remember the first time I heard this. I was shopping for speakers and went to a local audio store. The guy there asked me what I like and I replied something like, "Do you have any solo piano or choral?" He put the Requiem in the CD player and selected Pie Jesu. The tune sounded familiar but new - so peaceful. When the full chorus welled up so did I. I wept on the spot! The shop owner, who is also a choral conductor, just smiled when he noticed.
This brings back so many memories. I have sung two versions of Pie Jesu in high school choir, and this was one of them. You did an absolutely fantastic job! Thank you for sharing this with me. It would have been an honor to be in the choir with you.
I'm sorry to put any kind of dampener on this coz you do have an absolutely gorgeous tone to your voice but I just wanted to mention the fact that you say: 'requi-ahm' instead of 'requiem'. Our choir conductor is really down on us about that. Sorry if this comes across as though I'm lecturing or something...
There will always be different schools of thought on what's right and wrong on vowels. Just because someone is of the opinion that you should always pronounce an unaccented vowel a certain way doesn't mean everyone will share the same view :)
@thespia, tess5340 is correct. It is pronounced requiEM. A letter 'e' is never pronounced 'ah'. A pity as it is well executed, but the mispronunciation jars somewhat.
@floatystar I think some leeway should be given for pronunciation of "requiem" as it is little more than a middle English word who itself is a modification of the latin word "requies." This makes the word requiem little more than dialect, or at worst slang. I will accept a rebuttal for requies, but only if you honor its latin origins by not using Caroline minuscule.
@tess5340 it's not a mispronunciation per sæ, it's just a slight vowel modification for the sake of tone (the open 'e' vowel has a tendency to cause bad placement and pull the pitch down).
I think you have a lovely voice and did a great job with the solo
I performed this song a week ago
but the only thing is the rest of the choir I felt were going a little to fast with the music .. but i guess because we did it totally different but thats just me
You uplift my spirit - what a beautiful rendition of a stunning song. Your choirs phrasing and dynamic shifts are exceptional - felt it was growing so naturally in the climaxes.
Out of curiosity, and the soloist for Rutter's Pie Jesu for two choirs myself, is this a college choir? You did a wonderful job by the way, intonation is perfect and you interpreted this piece very well!
It was some of the kids from my college choir...and a few others. This video was made as an entrance video for the conductor to get into graduate school.
aw man! lol we did this my senior year in high school and I had this solo...but we were in this huge church for our performance and we had a mini orchestra so we had, I think, a flute, clarinet, piano/organ, drum thing lol and a harp...I can't remember what else but it was amazing! And the echos in the church...wow, nothing like it. lol great job btw...we'd do great together :)
i loe your voice.. my choral class this year is doing this piece along with requiem aternam and others from rutters collection and i think one like this is one that we shall model ourselves from... really exelent job!
Excellent rendition. Too bad the audio had trouble capturing the high notes.

Altar verhängt, Augenkontakt mäßig, schlechte Tonqualität. Dennoch recht gut gestaltet.
Wegen Altarverhüllung drei Punkte von mir!

Excelent, but iv'e heard this song live before, sung by Randburg Hoerskool choir under Richter Grimbeek, no choir will ever beat that

Ahhhhh....A beautiful voice!
Sustained tone, lovely control, and I love how you floated those notes...good interpretation.
When the community choir did this, the conductor brought in a guest to sing the solos, and he built her up for WEEKS.
She wasn't all that good- she was good, but nothing quite as fantabulous as this.
