Honestly, I thought the movie was decent, but the musical is ALWAYS better.

Les Miserables is getting the same treatment from Universal pretty soon. They've announced 6 actors so far: Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean,) Russell Crowe (Javert,) Anne Hathaway (Fantine,) Geoffrey Rush (Thernadier,) Helena Bonham Carter (Mme. Thernadier,) and Eddie Redmayne (Marius.) Most of them can sing, but I'm not so sure about Russell Crowe or Eddie Redmayne (who probably just got the role for his good looks.)

And Amanda Seyfried is playing Cosette. Yeah, she can sing, but Mamma Mia wasn't an opera. Cosette has a very operatic style of voice.

*sigh* I just hope those two don't ruin it for me. I was truly hoping the casting director would have some SENSE and hire BETTER singers for their roles. -_-X

Samantha Barks is the girl who played Eponine in the 25th anniversary cast recording of Les Miserables. She's actually pretty talented and got third place in "I'd Do Anything," a competition held by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron MacIntosh to see who would play the lead role of Nancy in their version of Oliver. I'm REALLY glad they finally had some sense and went with her.

Cannot wait! That movie was such a mixed bag! Only good things (from my perspective): Miranda Richardson, Jennifer Ellison (let's face it, she was a pretty good Meg, though not very Leroux-sy), and we all must admit, it was a very PRETTY movie. Minnie Driver didn't totally suck (let's face it, even camping it up she does good work). The three leads, though... questionable at best. And cutting out Raoul's singing part of the graveyard scene? MADNESS!
