@soldierside365 To be honest, I do not think anyone truly knows what this is nor should anyone be able to define it. But there in lies the beauty. Uncertainty. To let go of time and play on a pulse and improvise on a high level is something that jazz musicians have been doing for fifty years. Chris is one of the most technically proficient drummers I have ever seen. I'm a drummer and i believe this piece is great because people like you think it sucks, and that gets me off.
sorry, save the romance for someone else please. all i wanted was an answer, you dont know, thanks for trying, but please dont refer to me, who is actively trying to understand before giving an opinion, as 'people like you'. how very pretentious. just because you like an alternative piece of drumming, it doesnt make you higher on an intellectual or musical level. and im glad my comment could give you something to get off on. i just hope you wiped your keyboard after..
@soldierside365 Hey man, no disrespect. I took you too soon for someone who comes on here and trolls around insulting things they don't understand yet. You seemed a little hostile toward this piece. I tried to describe to you why this piece was good, or why I perceive it as good. I don't believe I am on a higher level because I like this. People tell me in order to be a great drummer i have to immerse myself in all types of music. I dont want to get scrutinized for that.
I completely agree about exploring all types of music, but people can only understand so much (including me). Ive been playing and listening to drums and drummers for 12 years since i was 7 and ive never come across anything like this. its confusing, has no notable rhythm, and uses electric instruments that sound terrible and also have no tune to them. I came here because my cousin said he was amazing live.. if this is what hes amazing for, then hes highly overrated!
@soldierside365 I agree that it is an acquired taste, the lack of a tempo and common rhythm and groove makes it harder to get into. But over-rated? I dont think so. If you come here looking for a groovy solo you have come to the wrong place. This guy has serious talent, one of the fastest hands i have seen, with a great touch. You have to admit that he has skills. His music isn't for everyone but i commend him for trying something different.
@Scrudg3 Judging without knowing is the ignorant's only weapon. Try do do something like this just once in your life, and then you will have the right to say it is stupid.
people who say that others are ignorant by not knowing what this is, enlighten us.. what the fuck is it and why is it good? Rid me of my ignorance!!!
