this is one of the best dylan covers i ever heard. thanks for posting the chords. i've been trying to figure out how you played it for a while and just looked at the comments recently. pay no mind to the wanker with the bad comment. i can't imagine it sounding much better, but curious about these other tunings of which you speak, feel free to give us another lesson on how to play great.
Great Dylan cover. I guess we're neighbours on the youtube scale of things! and I actually lived in liverpool for a few years -great memories of the cabin club-wonder if its still there?
"i've played this song for many years, normally in standard tuning in E, and recently in open D...you really need to play this in open D (or open E) to do it justice and get into the nuances of mood allowed by the freedom of open tuning"
I totally agree. This is good, but it never sounds as good when it's not in open tuning.
I love the entire Blood on the Tracks album (my fave Dylan album) for extremely personal reasons. And this song is just so heartbreaking...the story/lyrics...beautiful cover, Michael! Thanks so much... Hugs, Joy
thanx joy, yeah it's a great alum, prob his most emotional. he has so many great albums, my other favs are Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 Revisited, Another Side Of Bob Dylan, Desire and Freewheelin. I could listen to those forever. thanx for watchin. :-)
i've played this song for many years, normally in standard tuning in E, and recently in open D...you really need to play this in open D (or open E) to do it justice and get into the nuances of mood allowed by the freedom of open tuning
however, as i get older i find i have to capo to get the song into a G or A key and sing a bit lower...i have a hard time hitting the high notes
thanx man. i usually play it in open E but thought i would play it in standard tuning C so that its more original and different than all the other covers of this song. i do agree that the open tuning does create a mood in this song which can't be captured in standard tuning.
hi man, think it would be more disrespectful to be a copycat and play it exactly how dylan himself plays it and sings it. I choose not to simply copy the song for there would be no point. it takes more skill to create a new progression than go on a tab site and copy how dylan plays it.
Youtube is full of connesuirs who wud rather spend their time bad mouth ing others vidsos rather than become a practitioner!!! I don't think u r qualified to tell me how to play guitar!!!!!!!
I suppose Dylan was renound for his dogmatic adherence to conventional arrangements of traditonal folk songs and his own compositions, was'nt he. The very nature of music is in paraphrasing not verbatim quotation, for want of a better expression. That's the point of a COVER.
Actually I do play some of his songs on guitar, but I am not a very good singer, but I will improve it and maybe soon I will have my first guitar video with a bob dylan-song...you'll hear from me then...
Thanx man for tis comment and others you left me. I love your Dylan stuff (and others), as well as your psychedelic effects and backgrounds.
p.s. Has anybody ever told you if you were to wear sunglasses you look exactly like the dude from the Big Lebowski. Thats a compliment, coz the dude is one of my idols.

Pls stop.. do not mess w/ the classics. If anyone deserves more respect than anyone is Dylan. You don't even have the right cords for god's sake!!
