gorgeous voice but i don't feel the emotion. as a crude example of how this lovely melody can be sung (and i do not mean to offend any opera purists out there), listen to popera singer little robertino loretti's version on youtbe and let me know what you think. and don't be a hater! :) ps if you need to hear a true virtuoso sing this with feeling, there is a divine gigli version on youtube
@randalwax Don't know anything about this kind of music and don't speak Italian, but knew first time hearing his version, that the song is about lost love.
You don't have to understand the words to know that, you can hear it in his delivery his, every word.
This song is all emotion and he does it perfect, don't know how to describe it other than he makes me "feel".
@randalwax I'm going to side with randalwax on this one. I think Pavarotti's rendition is indeed crude and even sensationalistic -- the Harlequin Romance Novel interpretation. Blasphemy, I know, but come on, people -- he's about as nuanced here as a two-year-old throwing a temper tantrum. I would cite Agostino Castagnola's rendition as an emotionally honest evocation of what I believe Vincenzo de Crescenzo was aiming for, as opposed to this fingernails-on-a-blackboard misfire.
please see my video of mario fusco singing the same song and tell me what you think. mario fusco was the greatest opera singer in the world that no one ever heard of!!!!!!
I cant believe theyve never made a film about this man, especially with John Rhys Davies around. I mean cmon he's a dead ringer minus the voice of course.
i don´t know why but this is my favourite aria, song...can you tell me why? No don´t...i don´t want to loose magic from this music, HIS delivery and my tears...
@Hjadlowker Lucky you... and glad to hear he was in fine form musically. Would that I had been able to hear him sing this, one of my favourite songs. Maybe he 'twinkled' a little more when he performed here in Barbados and also at the concert I attended he was newly in love. That usually adds a little extra zing to most things!
Why do you make me cry? Bravo!!!!!!
Lyrics Enjoy and YES its Italian.....
A True Giant amongst mere men on earth with the capacity to move mountains and millions with his pure genius, ciao luciano, you were and will be the greatest ever !!

@mufiteam I'm not so sure, but it isnt an aria, its a Napolitan song. Anyway its amazing =)

The author Vincenzo de Crescenzo was with a broken heart at the time he created this magic.
The first time I cried, was when I watched Star Trek Voyager "Virtuoso" episode.

Beautiful as ever, but was he already ill when this was recorded. The sparkle seems to have gone from his eyes.
20callenderslady 1 year ago
Absolutely not, when you look at the quality of the video it looks like this was recorded in the 80's and he got sick in 2000, 2001....

Under the gronda of the ancient tower, a rondine friend,
To blooming of the returned almond tree é It returns every year,
Always all same date,
Mounts and sea it crosses in order to only return love,
When it escapes and it goes far away,
It hopes in space but it does not return more, Hopes in space but it does not return more
