I would presume 3rdrltw75 is right when he/she says they come from all branches of the military because that's what the SAS do. They take the best from all areas of military and put them through selection. They come out being the best 1% the country can put together. @USMCFUCKYEA - SEALs did great in Iraq in 1980, Grenada 83, Panama 85, and Pakistan 2011. If they are not crashng helos, they are jumping into high seas with 10 foot waves carrying a 120 pound pack. What good is all that training when they are led by idiots with no common sense. Being strong and having good weapons became useless for the SEALS who drowned in Grenada because some idiot let them jump into the ocean with high waves and wind.

@USMCFUCKYEA The SBS are not from Scotland. A common myth is most of the SAS are Scottish. But its just that, a myth. Both forces are tri-service so take candidates from all 3 armed forces. Many Scots pass selection but so do alot of Yorkshiremen/Mancs/Taffs etc. Usually men from working class backrounds but even Officers have to pass Selection.The SBS are based at Poole in Dorset, The SAS in Hereford on the Welsh border.

ONce again you're way off base mate. You can have the hardest punch in the world and it isn't worth a squirt of piss. A trained martial artist will parry or dodge the blow, and then proceed to leave you immobile. All SOF are intensively trained in martial arts, borrowing technique from each different style to make the most effective combo. Army now has MMA events and recruit fighters b./c they make great soldiers. USMC uses MCMAP for all Marines beginning in boot camp. WAKE

Fact Check: SAS heavily influenced DELTA, not SEALS. Maj. Charlie Beckwith had served in an exchange program in the 60's with the SAS for a year on CI mission in Africa. SEALS were patterned after the UDT teams of which they eventually absorbed. Combat skill sets are not proprietary knowledge, as all SOF's are so heavily cross trained that they all share SOP's and techniques.

Just make sure you know what you're tlakin about and not simply being ethnocentric when you make your claims.
