This was an average game at best that looked pretty cool (at the time) but played like a bag of spanners. It seemed to be part of the 'FMV Fad' that swept the market during the early to mid 1990s. The Amiga had some absolutely brilliant games but this wasn't one of them.
I very briefly worked on this game. It was the first game I worked on straight out of college and at the time I wasn't even told the name or what it was about. I just had to go to the office for a week and do filling and a bit of photocopying. On my last day, the Friday, one of the managers said I should stay at his home that weekend. I did as he asked and we both ended up having a lot to drink. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it is my anus that appears in this game.
I remember seeing this on the Spoony Experiment, and he trashed the hell out of it, but that was the Sega CD version, which compared to this was terrible, but despite that, this actually is pretty damn cool. And the soundtrack is kickass.
OK, likening this to Descent is like comparing Pac-Man to Doom... but anyway, it wasn't too bad, though I only ever played the Sega CD version (well and the 3DO version, but it was even worse than the Sega CD version)... this looks a bit better and looks like it plays a hell of a lot better than the Sega CD.
sounds like the person who thought up this game must have traveled to the future and saw the world as it will be and came back to make a game about it
This game is playable on modern computers, google WinUAE. It even runs full speed on my cheap Acer netbook with the Scale2X pixel filter enabled, making the graphics look much better than the original!
i remember when this came out,the edge had a feature on the fmv....they said it was great...but they didnt tell us the game was FUCKING SHITE....which it was...still it was better than rise of the robots.....
The soundtrack isn't available on MP3 but you can get it in MOD format (winamp plays it) on the address exotica (dot) org (dot) uk (slash) wiki (slash) Microcosm. Look up "MOD music" in google for more information about it
I have the 3D0 version. Don't care for the game much. I've tried several times to beat the first boss, but to no avail. Think I'm gonna rip the soundtrack though
one question...with all those lasers and explosions going on, wouldn't they have ruptured the persons veins at least twenty times over? That can't be healthy
For years I never even heard of Amiga. Was it even sold in West Virginia? We have everything from PS3's to Commodores and yet, no Amiga's seen yet. Eternal Champions CD was sold but limited here, yet you could find a large sum of Sonic CD copies. Strange.
The "Amiga" series of computers were by Commodore, a European company, who went bankrupt in 1994. They were most popular in Europe but were also used in the US, yet they weren't as popular as the earlier Commodore64 because there were better-selling alternatives that did the same work by Apple Computer and IBM.
LOL, no. :) The fact that the Amiga lost over time to the PC would be solely the incompetence of the company itself, and the fact that they lost control of their economy. The machine was way ahead of it's time.
Hehe, there is always an armada of die-hard Amiga fans that will rise up to defend when someone says something like this. I am one of them. :-)
This particular game is a game for Commodore's only game console, which was essentially one of their computers (the A1200) with a CDROM and a different board layout/chassis/no keyboard. It was Commodore's last hope, and got shot down by the more popular Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64.
You are partially correct though this was not Commodore's only game console. It was their last, though they were working on one using the "hombre" chipset when they died. Also the consoles you mention were launched long after Commodore went bust, so they did not "shoot down the CD32".
i had a CD 32 power !!!!!!! palying microcosm was so great ! amazing in 1993 !!!! orly megacd version with 32 colours lol !!!!!!!! AMIGA RULEZ !!!!!!!!!!

i had this game, and it was shit...only the FMV -sequences were stunning back then..
Especially in the beginning when the helicopter surprised the guard.
The problem with the game was that you never knew when something hit you.

This game looks shit and was reviewed like shit when it came out. I'm pretty sure it WAS shit.
(And before you tell me it was before my time, let me tell you: It wasn't.)

oh lol. See, I was thinking the Amiga was made by Microsoft fo some odd reason.
sesshygirl2006 4 years ago
Commodore was not a European company, though did have extensive operations there.
It was North American, first Canada then the US.
When the Amiga was launched the IBM and Apples sold better, but they could not do the same work. It would take them years to catch up.
bobsparkie 4 years ago
> did the same work

You have actually made this game look good. The last video I saw of this had the guy dying every 5 seconds.
You are one hard guy to kill.
Also, the guy in the ship is completely calm while his ship is exploding.
