Obama doesn't want to tackle DOMA and related issues now because he knows it will give his opponents a rallying point and possibly endanger the rest of his programs. He is also aware that the longer he waits, the less controversial these issues become...

philipem01 - On the other hand, the longer he waits the more likely the Republicans will take control of the House or Senate. The best thing that Obama can do is to suspend DOMA now ("stop-loss") and when the issue finally comes up before Congress all the controversy will be gone.

opps! I meant to say that Obama should suspend DADT now. That's something he can do immediately. We should all pressure Congress to do repeat DOMA and DADT (and a few other bills) now while the Democrats have the majority and the right-wing is disorganized from battling so many issues. Obama needs to act like Roosevelt - pass so much progressive legislation now the right-wingers won't have a chance to breathe.

Well I think that's what he's doing, but he's trying to avoid the gay thing because he feels it would rally the right wing, give them something to focus on, doesn't have strong national support (unlike a govt health care plan with72% support), and he lets the disorganized right wing stay that way a while longer.

Because of this letter Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his famous letter From Birmingham Jail, in it he stated that there is never a good time, but that is no excuse for not giving people equal rights.

Hey Rob thanks for the updates, but you forgot to mention that The Obama had the nerve to compare same-sex marriages to incest in his Department of Justice briefing on DOMA. He really hasn't done anything for the LGBT community and the Democrats have been a big disappointment too, failing to pass any of the Pro-LGBT legislation they promissed. On another note, you looked great as usual, but the light must really have been bright in this video. Hope you didn't hurt your eyes with it. Love ya!
