Yeah, to folks saying how much he reminds us of Goldberg - Nikita was "Goldberg" before there was Goldberg.... I knew it was somebody that Goldberg reminded me of...
nikta was a big boy. and one of the strongest men in wrestling. here i think he could match road warrior animal or warlord in strength. at this time he was definetly much stronger than hawk.
@veeseee128 Oddly enough, the bunch of them were all friends together in Minnesota. According to Animal's book, it was him, Hawk, Nikita, Scott Norton, Rick Rude and Barry Darsow (Krusher Khrushchev/Demolition Smash/Repo Man), with Warlord joining in later.
Con't there if you've noticed that every single wrestler that was with WCW/NWA always showe off more and better wrestling and ability in that area then when he was in the WWF/E because again the WWF/E focuses mostly on entertainment and the WCW/NWA focused more on wrestling and the actual quality of the match and the realism of it. I'm not talking about who made who a superstar, but rather if you go by wrestling performance, every wrestler was far better in WCW/NWA
Vince tried to get Nikita in the main event of WM2 to ride wave Rocky vs. Drago created in Rocky 4 one year before. It would have worked, but Koloff had enough sense not to go and become a Hulkamainia casualty. As it turned out, NWA didn't use him all that well either as time went on.
I always thought Nikita was at a disadvantage due to fact he didnt know English well and he might misunderstand the referee instructions. The NWA should of provided a interpreter ringside for Nikita. I think alot of the time when Crockett & Schiavone were pointing out when Nikita was breaking a rule that perhaps he didnt know it. And dont blame Ivan, it aint his job to fill in for the NWA because they didnt do there job.
Nikita Koloff: every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we, Nikita, in Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord, one incorruptible crown. (1 Corinthians 9:25 Your Biblia)
I think this match and the other matches between these two were alittle overrated. They weren't as good as the Booker T vs Chris Benoit best of 7 matches in 1998 that culminated at the Great American Bash 1998 with a match 8. I think that was a better series.
Nikita was one of my favorites to watch. So was Goldberg. Never realized how much they looked alike. It would have been an epic match though with the win going to either guy.
Would Magnum still main event over guys like Sting, Luger, Vader, Windham, Ron Simmons, Rude, Steamboat, Flair, etc.? I guess we'll never know. Hell, Crockett may still be running WCW (that was the name BEFORE Turner bought it) at this moment had Jim's "chosen one" not wrecked his vehicle. It seems a lot of wrestlers get in career-changing or ending accidents - Flair, Magnum, Luger, and Beefcake, plus guys like Orton today.

Nikita,Magnum:Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign : Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Im-man´u-el, God with us (Isaiah 7:14 Your Bible) And she shall bring forth a son, and you shalt call his name JESUS (Saviour): for he shall save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21) For to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10,11) Believe in Jesus Christ and be saved you (Acts 16:31)
@fjccommish It's obvious that you don't believe wrasslin' is fake? The are from Russia because at the time it was the "Cold War" and everything Russian was bad and everything American was good. You've got to love propaganda. The only reason that Nikita is Russian is because a booker decided to make him Russian. Rowdy Piper is a Canadian as well. If you read Hulk Hogan's book he's from Florida not Venice Beach, California.
@fjccommish You're kidding aren't you? Nikita & Ivan are about as Russian as I am American, I am Australian. I could probably act American with some coaching on my accent and wearing old glory on my back or maybe deck myself out with a cowboy hat and boots. It's a SHOW and they are PAID to dress & act AS Russians. It's really obvious that you comment here and have no idea about the wrestling business & what you're talking about. Yeah the old NWA was the shit man. I was only 11 years old when this match took place but man, these old NWA clips bring back a lot of good memories. I have to confess, I was a Hulkamaniac from hell back in those days but other than the Hulkster the WWF had little going for it. Maybe JYD & Big John Stud, Andre, The WWF had the big monsters you know. But the action was way better in the NWA. You actually believed those guys really hated eachother and would kill one another if possible.
But remember JYD, Andre, Studd and all came from the NWA territories. NWA had the better depth chart. Vince just had the edge on marketing. I felt if Magnum stayed healthy, then the true wrestling fans would have surfaced over the WWF.
Johnny: Sounds to me like amongst the older wrestlers of yesterday the name Vince McMahon is a controversial name. A lot of those guys seem to hate him from what I have seen but all will say the obvious, he was/is a hell of a business man. Marketing made him the dough that allowed him to take over for the most part. I wonder if Magnum stayed healthy how long it would have been before he wound up in the WWF for a big contract? Shame we'll never know now. Magnum was a great talent.
Scott: I was born & raised in the Charlotte NC area and in the back yard of the old NWA. I used to ride past Dusty Rhode's and Rick Flair's homes every day on the school bus. My friend in high school worked for Dominos and used to deliver pizzas to Robert Gibson's (of the R& R Express) home all the time and Gibson tipped him by burning a doobie with him usually. I used to see Road Warrior Animal every now & then at the grocery store. NWA was great, was still a Hulkamaniac from hell though lol.
Scott: I never got to meet to many of them and only met the ones I did once or twice. My sister went to high school with Dustin Rhodes (AKA Gold Dust) and he played on the football team. Dusty was always at the games drunk and yelling his head off everytime old "Gold Dust" went off sides or got caught holding which I hear was fairly often lol.
@yardlet6 Yeah yeah lol. You know them "rasslin fans" of the South... can't get enough of it. You definately never saw WWE down here for lives shows back in the day but they were everywhere on TV. Hulk Hogan bandaids, T-shirts, ball caps, toys, cartoons and hell wasn't there even Hulkamania popcicles and a damned cerial at one time? Shameless marketing works on nearly every kid my friend lol.
@BradNC11175 The action and the wrestling was always better in the NWA and WCW then in WWF/E because they focused on wrestling more and making it look real. I always sais that the worst WCW wrestler would still outwrestle the best WWF wrestler if each guy fought in his respective company style according to the company and how they make it look. The WCW guy would have been more convincing and would have showed moves and actual wrestling then the WWF guy. WWF is all about entertainment.
@xhemexx Back in the day can recall that the WWE was comic book like, like a cartoon. It was geared towards kids and the marketing is proof of that and back in the day kids like me ate it up. In the NWA you had like class warfare in some ways with the ritch playboy high roller 4 Horsemen against the blue collar average guys and the fans that backed them. Flair & Tully both reminded you of the boss's spoiled son in law at work you just want to beat the shit out of lol. I agree on the talent too.
@allenkung I don't know if the other matches were ever taped. This was back when a lot of the business was done at house shows. According to PWI, Nikita won the first 3, Magnum won the next 3 and Nikita won the last one.
This particular match came from the 1986 Great American Bash video. If you do find the rest of the series, let me know. I wouldn't mind seeing them.
"REPOST THIS if you feel that Lex Luger was superior to Nikita Koloff in every way.. from body physique, in ring performance, being stronger, better looking and getting more ladies then Nikita Koloff. Based on these facts, In every match they had Luger dominated Koloff all the time and Luger was always cheered for more then Koloff......go on spread the word ..."
@xhemexx Luger was big but he never drew a dime no matter what company he was in. CWF,Crockett,WWF....his best matches were the ones with Flair after Luger got thrown out of the Horseman.
What was the name of the match, when they both were joined by rope around there wrist and had to drag the other around and ring and touch all 4 buckles for the win. Those matches were classic.
The only reason Magnum won is because the ref interferred kicking Nikita off the ropes too bad Koloff still won the championship as well as with his uncle Ivan the tag team champs
@NAYellowjackets Was it a best of seven? PWI said that was just one match to unify the US and National titles with Wahoo winning the National title from Tully Blanchard only 2 weeks beforehand.
Bret Hart said it the best in an interview: "An internal memo from V. Mcmahon told his employees that they were selling entertainment. Not wrestling." That's why I think fans dump on wrestling these days because you are watching something else...not wrestling.
I know im young but Nikita makes Goldberg look like a wimp! And Magnum could perform better than 90% of the so called superstars of the WWE. Good stuff and thnks for the history lesson!
Your right the Russian Nightmare was and is a true bad ass. He could run rough over 99% of the wrestlers in WWE & TNA. And Magnum TA was going to be the biggest wrestler Looks talent everything and then that dam crash. These two are 2 of the most under rated wrestlers ever
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Are you serious?? Goldberg would beat this guys butt so bad. Look at ALL the moves Goldberg can do and his strength and agility. He is in every way better.
Nikita doesn't have anything over Goldberg. Look how bad Koloff was as a face!! Lex Luger beat him up everytime they faced and not only that but totally dominated Koloff in everyway in all there matches. Same with others. Goldberg is far more superior then Koloff in strength, charisma, dominance as a heel AND a face. Golberg is also more popular then Koloff ever was.
The "Russian Nightmare" got dominated and beat up in all his matches with guys like Lexs Luger and Tully Blanchard. Goldberg would NEVER get domimated like that!!
I totally agree xhemexx. Goldberg probably would've beaten the face Nikita but I'm not so sure about the heel Russian Nightmare. When he was with his Uncle Ivan, he was a monster and was in way better condition with an attitude!
@Beef266 OH yeah, I forgot to add one more comment from a year ago about the comparison between Nikita Koloff and Bill Goldberg. Not only is Bill Goldberg better and stronger and overall more talented in everyway then Nikita Koloff, but Bill Goldberg is one bald headed man that CAN actually get chicks and ladies to cheer him. Nikita could never get female fans and ladies to like him.
Nikita looks like a cross between Austin and Goldberg! I personally would have loved to see him and Goldberg as tag partners! Magnum TA takes me back to the days when the good old belly to belly finishing move could actually end a match! Good times!
this is wrestling at its very best...the US Heavyweight title was so prestigious...Magnum was my mom's favorite wrestler...Nikita used to scare the crap outta me when i was a lil kid...Magnum T.A.'s popularity was INSANE at this time....his car wreck shocked and saddened a whole lot of people
Nikita Koloff possessed one of the most-successful United States Championship reigns in the history of the prestigious championship. Koloff captured the U.S. Championship in Aug. 1986, when he defeated former champion Magnum T.A. in the finals of a tournament to fill a vacancy. He then went on to hold the title for an amazing 11 months.
What/who was it that ended Magnum's career, back injury, neck? His career was on fire then he got injured and that was it. It's too bad,the sport has a frightening toll on it's participants.
Yeah, to folks saying how much he reminds us of Goldberg - Nikita was "Goldberg" before there was Goldberg.... I knew it was somebody that Goldberg reminded me of...

What was the name of the match, when they both were joined by rope around there wrist and had to drag the other around and ring and touch all 4 buckles for the win. Those matches were classic.
tjenn76 2 years ago
That would be a Bullrope Match.
Beef266 2 years ago
Thanks, Nikita's was the Russian Chain Match.

For all you Goldberg fans - NIKITA KOLOFF HAS MORE TALENT IN HIS LEFT PINKY THAN GOLDBERG HAD IN HIS WHOLE BODY.
LCARLAN2 2 years ago 4
I would rather fight Nikita than Goldberg that damn Goldberg is an animal.

Goldberg did make a better lettuce.rofl

NIKITA KOLOFF.....looks like Goldberg in a way LMAO.........
la0sFINEST 2 years ago
No way!!! Goldberg was way better lkooking the Nikita Koloff. Just ask the ladies. Goldberg could get alot moree dates then Nikita could I bet!! lol
xhemexx 2 years ago
Being that this is about 10 years before Goldberg wrestled, Goldberg looks a lot like Nikita.

kick me- did the ref really kick nikita right in the face!????
DaveyBoySmithFan2 2 years ago
No, Magnum won because of the awesomeness of that Mullet. get a look at that thing it's amazing.

I think Nikita was booed because of his hairstyle lol
xhemexx 2 years ago
I know Nikita! He's my friend's Dad her name is Kolby Kolloff.
AndyMcSunshine 2 years ago
You think he'd beat the hell out of someone for boinking his daughter?
Ninety2q 2 years ago
The only reason Magnum won is because the ref interferred kicking Nikita off the ropes too bad Koloff still won the championship as well as with his uncle Ivan the tag team champs

TA could've been champ!

David Crockett and Tony Schivone were so funny when they got excited and emotional during matches. Sometimes they screamed like girls, LOL!

What about the best of 7 series between Wahoo(Nat'l champ) and Nikita(US champ)?
NAYellowjackets 2 years ago
@NAYellowjackets Was it a best of seven? PWI said that was just one match to unify the US and National titles with Wahoo winning the National title from Tully Blanchard only 2 weeks beforehand.
TheJohnnyCotts 1 month ago
@TheJohnnyCotts yes best of 7 between wahoo and nikita. saw it happen.
NAYellowjackets 1 month ago
@NAYellowjackets Thanks. Never heard about Nikita and Wahoo having a best of 7 before.

Bret Hart said it the best in an interview: "An internal memo from V. Mcmahon told his employees that they were selling entertainment. Not wrestling." That's why I think fans dump on wrestling these days because you are watching something else...not wrestling.

David Crockett should be in WWE HOF--when they open the wing for horrible announcers.
Tony Schiavane was really great.
RPenta 3 years ago
I know im young but Nikita makes Goldberg look like a wimp! And Magnum could perform better than 90% of the so called superstars of the WWE. Good stuff and thnks for the history lesson!
sexyangelstarr 3 years ago 12
Your right the Russian Nightmare was and is a true bad ass. He could run rough over 99% of the wrestlers in WWE & TNA. And Magnum TA was going to be the biggest wrestler Looks talent everything and then that dam crash. These two are 2 of the most under rated wrestlers ever

Are you serious?? Goldberg would beat this guys butt so bad. Look at ALL the moves Goldberg can do and his strength and agility. He is in every way better.
xhemexx 2 years ago
Nikita in his prime would have killed Goldberg
shakezula29 2 years ago 4
Nikita doesn't have anything over Goldberg. Look how bad Koloff was as a face!! Lex Luger beat him up everytime they faced and not only that but totally dominated Koloff in everyway in all there matches. Same with others. Goldberg is far more superior then Koloff in strength, charisma, dominance as a heel AND a face. Golberg is also more popular then Koloff ever was.
xhemexx 2 years ago
You must be on the pipe if you think Little Bill could take the Russian Nighmare.
Beef266 2 years ago
The "Russian Nightmare" got dominated and beat up in all his matches with guys like Lexs Luger and Tully Blanchard. Goldberg would NEVER get domimated like that!!
xhemexx 2 years ago 2
I totally agree xhemexx. Goldberg probably would've beaten the face Nikita but I'm not so sure about the heel Russian Nightmare. When he was with his Uncle Ivan, he was a monster and was in way better condition with an attitude!
muzikman757 2 years ago 2
@Beef266 OH yeah, I forgot to add one more comment from a year ago about the comparison between Nikita Koloff and Bill Goldberg. Not only is Bill Goldberg better and stronger and overall more talented in everyway then Nikita Koloff, but Bill Goldberg is one bald headed man that CAN actually get chicks and ladies to cheer him. Nikita could never get female fans and ladies to like him.

Both of them were so over at that time, its a shame Magnum got into his accident, who knows how much money the would've drawn.

Nikita vs. Magnum T.A. were some of the best matches ever!
MrConservativeGuy 3 years ago 2
Nikita looks like a cross between Austin and Goldberg! I personally would have loved to see him and Goldberg as tag partners! Magnum TA takes me back to the days when the good old belly to belly finishing move could actually end a match! Good times!
MyRiseToHonor 3 years ago 2
this is wrestling at its very best...the US Heavyweight title was so prestigious...Magnum was my mom's favorite wrestler...Nikita used to scare the crap outta me when i was a lil kid...Magnum T.A.'s popularity was INSANE at this time....his car wreck shocked and saddened a whole lot of people

DEMILOVOTOFANCLUB 3 years ago
What/who was it that ended Magnum's career, back injury, neck? His career was on fire then he got injured and that was it. It's too bad,the sport has a frightening toll on it's participants.
goldenagenut 3 years ago
He was badly injured in an automobile accident. He still has limited use of one of his arms/legs to this day.
