  • Space...the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise-B. Its ongoing mission -- to explore strange new worlds...to seek out new life and new civilizations...to boldy go where no man has gone before. :'-]

  • VideoFX, please give mylex67 your tumbling dock worker *evil grin*. Good Stuff, both of you. I might not be a ( computer ) artist, but I know art when I see it. This IS art. Maybe when I retire, I can devote long hours to CG'ing a rotating cube. Thats about how talanted I am compared to you guys doing this Enterprise CGI stuff. Keep up the good work!

  • drools...

  • This is top of the line work, well done

  • I am a big Trek fan from way back and I just want to say Bravo!! Perfect! I loved the way the Enterprise flys through space and past Jupiter. The Jupiter approach and passing was dead on perfect. The best adaptation of the Leaving the Drydock sequence in my opinion. Brings back wonderful memories. Many thanks from this old Trekker.

  • That's a really nice remake and it has some fresh new shots in there, congrats !

  • The Enterprise moving through space looks so natural.

  • Okay... You continue to do your thing. I want to say this--Nice touch with the powering up of the Impulse Deflection Crystal right before the Impulse drive was engaged. Nicely done.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Yea, raytraced and area shadows are nothing on my system using finalRender... of course area shadows are naturally going to take longer... but with the right settings, they're fast... over scanline... plus, you get all kinds of materials...

    cebas . com/index.php?pid=product&prd_id=140&feature=1176

I use finalRender 3.5 PERSONAL, which is exactly like STUDIO EDITION, minus some network rendering features, which I don't really use, but you have to be in and prove you're in an...

  • How does Prologic's drydock fair on your system... it was a killer the last time I used it...

  • @CJCA915

Well the mesh was ok, i removed alot of the lights and tweaked the others to be a bit more friendly. I rendered the ship seperately with only a few of the dock lights actually on that helped speed things up. Our system specs are virtually the same, I think the lights are the issue more than anything.

  • This is just special! No one animates the rest of that sequence - certainly not like that!

How long does it take you to do these sequences?

  • @TalesOfKrypton

    Thanks alot.

Well if you're wondering about total render time I have no idea, but it is definately less than some videos I've seen where they say it took hundreds of hours I think because I try to simplfy the lighting setup as much as possible and also I'm not rendering in 1080p (Bit pointless as the models are not detailed enough IMO). Preparing the models and shots can take time, like the drydock where i had to put all the lights on it etc.

  • Here's how good it is: We were having a theme song discussion on the STO forums, and someone linked this for its "Drydock" music. I opened it and was listening as I did other things, and only glanced a few times.. it took me almost a minute to realize it wasn't footage from the movie.

    Well done. :)

  • yaaaay you got th little dude in the space suit doing the space dance too awesome!

  • this left me speechless ... absolutely amazing mate 11/10

  • Absolutely beautiful as always!!!1

  • Crazy good man! You NAILED the deflector color when it powers on!

  • In my opinion, the best starship design in all of Star Trek! Would have loved to see this in the TNG era, at least once. Or maybe at Wolf 539 in an epic last stand.

  • How come @ 0:15 when the lights turn off, the ship blurs and unblurs?

  • @CJCA915

Not sure, I think the video just wasn't encoded very well at the point where the light swtiches off, although I used stupidly high settings! I wasn't an effect I put in thats for sure.

  • @VideoSpaceFX ah, ok.

  • Great stuff as always here. Am always looking fwd. to your next release!

  • now that is thing of beauty! love it one of my fave scenes in all of Star Trek! keep them coming!

  • really good stuff...especially the Earth and the motion blur for the flyby. Great attention to detail. The lighting brings the whole thing home.

  • @dbrasco2069

Thanks. The lighting setup I used made rendering take much longer as each of the lights on the dock was a real light in the scene with extra fake lights thrown in as well but it was worth it.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Yeah, getting realistic lighting on big objects is a pain. I was really impressed with your Earth, also...how did you do it?

  • @dbrasco2069

Thanks. Yes the Earth took some time to get right, if you look at my Ent-C launch video you will see my earlier attempt is much poorer than this. I used CC sphere in After Effects with high-res maps of the surface and cloud layers along with several layers of blurred clouds to create a more realistic look. I also blended the land slightly with blue. The atmosphere is just a blue CC sphere blurred out and put in behind the Earth.

  • @VideoSpaceFX 1:15..you included the little man waving the Enterprise goodbye! whoo hooooo! Starfleet hires Walmart greeters for that gig :)

  • Epic! Now saved to my fave list.

  • Are u tucked away in a cupbaord in the back of Paramount Studios??? Cos they should offer u a damn job!!! ur space fx scene are fabulous!!! keep up the good work!!!!

  • @tinytottles

Thanks, my day job could not be more different.

  • What would really be cool to see is the Enterprise-E departing the Spacedock she found herself in at the end of Nemesis, on a Sol System tour as she leaves the system for the great unknown.

  • @enterprise1701e

Would be ok but somewhat inferior as the Connie Refit beats the Sovereign class in looks any day :)

  • magnificent work man, loved every minute of it

  • Thank you, VideoSpaceFX! You have made my day 1000% better. All the effort makes me appreciate the smaller things and I am not just talking about the drydock worker.

  • That was absolutely awesome!

  • HOT DAMN! That was delicious! I can't wait to see what you come up with next! Thanks!!!

  • @Iams001

Thanks. Probably some other TMP scenes and Constellation vs. Planet Killer.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Awwwwesome!!!! I can't wait!!!

  • Am I imagining or does the music sound slightly sped up.

  • @goldsmith1210

It's caused by how they convert 24 frames per second film to 25 FPS for countries with the PAL television system, it makes films play at 104 percent of their original speed and makes the music have a higher pitch.

  • You never disappoint, sir

  • That has got to be the best I have ever seen!

  • I absolutely love the shot of the big E passing Jupiter.

  • I watched TMP more times than is healthy for a human. You've done this so well it gave me goosebumps - again! Extraordinary word, sir!

  • @spacecowboy5000

Lol, I remember as a kid I had a VHS copy of TMP and this scene was so worn out from where I had watched it over and over.

  • Frakking amazing! The ol' girl looks beautiful!

  • Wow! The best I've seen!

  • I'm crying tears of joy here.

  • You remembered the little drydock worker waving !!! Good stuff !!!!

  • @captjami Finally that little dude was added to the scene.

  • @captjami Yes - I saw him too! I've seen a lot of these Enterprise refit launches and they're all good, but this is the first one with him in, waving and doing his backflip!! :-D

Did you also notice the impulse deflection crystal powering up with a hum (the blue dome) with power flowing up from the intermix chanber before the engine ports glowed? I can just imagine Scottie comming the bridge and saying "intermix set, bridge, impulse power at your discretion!"

    Brilliant! :-D

  • Beautiful!

  • That's just about spot on. Great Job! Amazing! Was waiting for Kirk to say "Viewer Forward."

  • You know, if you got some good actors, scriptwrites, etc...

You could make some damn awesome movies....

Did i say this once before?

  • @BloodSonicFlux

I've heard it alot actually, if I win the lottery or something I would do it!

  • @VideoSpaceFX Oh? You play the lottery?

    lol

  • Amazing. Can't wait for the wormhole warp scene. :D

  • @StarFleetCommand3

I am going to attempt it :)

  • That was very well done. I loved the of a recideing Earth in those aft shots of the Enterprise. By doing that you made that recreation of the Enterprise Leaving Spacedock yours. Awesome job.

  • your videos are the best

hope there will follow many more
