  • I took the full version of the "alternate mix", time matched it exactly to the cd version of the song, inverted one of them and Mix Pasted them on top of each other. Because the songs are not perfect sound matches, the cancelation in the parts that were identical was not perfect but it did reveal that the first chorus, right from the beginning of "With no trace of hesitation" to the snare hit in 'know' ("if you KNOW what I mean") are completely different!!

  • @nfldboi13 ..."is" completely different, i mean. lol

  • Wow! They are definitely different, Rudolph! Even the vocals are noticeable different to me!

  • just discovered that in the FINAL ALBUM MIX, the first and second choruses are EXACTLY THE SAME.

i inverted the second chorus on top of the first chorus and there's very little leaking right up to "extreeeeme...if you know what i mean', which is probably the edit point of the 1st/2nd chorus.

in this video, the 1st and 2nd choruses are quite different!

  • Coolio Rooodio! I never noticed that - I wonder why the 2 mixes? And which was used for the single?

  • For years I have been saying that there is a different mix of this track. I hear it too. It is released on the DDR EP of "Head Over Heels".

I have checked it with several ABBA-experts (the best in the business) but they all said it was just the usual version, but maybe different mixing. Check it out Rudolf!

  • @MyABBACollection LOL you should have asked me about it ;-) I haven't heard the DDR EP pressing, is it on YouTube somewhere?

  • Im not sure whay youtube does to the sound, but today I can hear no differences at all, unlike yesterday when you posted the mp3 clips on the ABBA yahoo group. Cannot hear any backing vocal differences, thats for sure! Im pretty sure its not a different mix, as it is almost identical to the original. B&B were perfectionists, but that takes it too far! I think maybe a bad quality master was used by the LP manufacturers, or something happened in the transfer process maybe?

  • @discogareth I originally thought it might be an LP issue/a worn out copy, but the rest of the transfer is clean and sounds 100% identical to the Polydor CD version. The vocal delivery is quite different though, so in my opinion it wouldn't be due to a technical fault, but rather a different mix on the tape. It reminds me of the Japanese Man In The Middle mix - perhaps this one slipped through as well?

  • @mozpiano2 I suppose its possible. As is well known, the admin side of ABBA was not that great, with items either not being labled correctly ar even labled at all! You never know, you may get a call from universal wanting to borrow it to pad out the The Visitors Deluxe version, so they can advertise something rare! No doubt they will do that with the UK Epic 'should I laugh or cry' anyway! hehe! :o)

  • @discogareth Ooh which yahoo group is that please Gareth?

  • @sadabbalad I'm pretty sure it is called Abba-list. Rudolf posted mp3 snippets of the chorus of both versions for comparison. A bit clearer to hear the differences than his youtube upload. I love youtube, but sometimes the sound quality is not always as clear.

  • @discogareth Also try to load up the 720p version (HD version) - the audio is much better.

  • One can tell backing vocals is different than original vocal on final recording of the track, also you can hear dierent announciation on backing vocals... it's very noticable.. i like it very much.. i can hear different arrangemnet in their backing vocals than the ones i hear when removing music or filter the song.. thanks so much for a great upload.. :)

  • Ow and just for included, I am not expert in sound, but I gave my humble idea / opinion ... kisses =D

  • it's normal this type of mixing, when they get an album of LP and are remixes for CD usually they have a sound more "mellow" so to speak, but clean and clear, sometimes depending on the channel at the time of "cleaning" the track sounds and they lose some detail, then they have to redo, so it leaves some differences, the changes are highly remarkable voice...

[PS: Sorry for sometimes the bad english, I'm brazilian girl and learning =D ]

  • Yeah,The drums are more significant sounding on the alternative mix than the standard one!
