She is truly an awful singer and that is what her appeal is, as is William Hung's appeal. Wing and Hung are examples of _kitsch_/_schlock_ culture. Wing is so bad she is good. Her total and utter failure as a singer combined with her earnestness are her appeal -- this is the (unconscious) "camp" apsect of Wing's performance.

I believe Wing's CD sales sky-rocketed after the SP episode. If Wing knew she was an awful singer and that her sing choices were terrible then her kitsch/schlock factor would be greatly reduced and that is the core of her appeal. On some level Wing _is_ making a living from singing.
