Assuming that you, Mike is an American clearly do not understand that Europeans vehicles are the best, simply because they look at all the variables such as emissions, balance, control, quality & they listen and address to people needs.
Most American vehicles are driven on power & sales, hence neglecting quality, balance, control. Two vehicle stands out in mind & in my opinion is the Ford Mustang & Chevy Camaro. Looks aren't everything and these two vehicles are precisely that.

My own experience says that the new M3 is not as good as it should be, just look at the interior, for a car that costs over fifty thousand pounds it's not great, and the M3 could do with shedding some of that excess bulk.

I own a csl and cancelled my order for the new M3, for me it was a big disappointment from BMW, I'd rather have an RS4. The GTR would destroy the M3, and just about anything else under 100K, unless the new 400brake EVO is as good as Mitsubishi say it will be.
I'll keep my csl (it's an awesome machine) and maybe get some mods.
in 0-60 135i vs m3 is almost the same when the run distance is small,i mean 400m for exaple.if you want to run 800m then the m3 horse power is starting to show the difference between those cars
I drove one of these M3's and they are amazing!!! So much power but very controlable and easy to manage. 3rd gear wheels spins at 80mph+ and that was with the traction control on!!! lol! Th traction realy does give you room to have some fun with out losing control. Great car for an every day sports/super car. Oh and the sound of the V8 was bliss! Heads turned 200m down the road! ;o)

The GT-R will eat the M3 for lunch in performance, but that's not apples-to-apples comparison and therefore shouldn't even be considered. I'm a Nissan fan and a BMW fan, and this M3 is very impressive and the best one yet IMO. As far as electronics is concerned, the M3 is almost identical to the GT-R and VERY compareable. Multiple on/off traction controls and launch-assists on both. Saying that the GT-R is for more for computer kids than the M3, is dipping a bit too much into hypocrisy.

BMW are releasing a new transmission with the new M3 called M DCT in 2008 is is totally un-related to the SMG and some people are already saying that it will do 0 to 62mph in 4.6sec or less! (P.S. the new transmission has 7 speeds)
no it is faster then the old m3 the old m3 (the E46) went o to 60mph (0 to 97 kmph) in 4.8sec but the new M3 goes 0 to 62mph (0 to 100kmph) in 4.8sec. So the new M3 is faster then the old one.
