Breaking News - The Downadup / Conficker Virus - finding and getting rid of it

Just had to clean my mom's and dad's computer of the conficker virus. They both had legal copies of windows. In both cases they were running malware which had turned off the automatic updates. Their ISP has a real wide subnet running too.

Your method did not work as the virus now blocks the web site. I saved to a CD from another computer, also turn off TASK SCHEDULER, and boot into safe mode without network support. Change your admin password and disable autorun. Nasty virus.

Really, I mean last night I was in a complete rush to get all my software updates and do virus scans. Some computer experts are now saying that conficker probably won't have a huge impact, but it would have been nice to have known beforehand.
